Looks like John was able to meet all his early criteria except the
weight factor. The new cabinet is weighs in around 7 lbs less than it's
predecessor. Will the final production models weigh the same?
The SPL of that cabinet is amazing!

"If EA were to produce a new 2x8 cabinet then it would have the following parameters: M-Line configuration, Neo magnet, Kevlar woofer cones, 19.0"H x 15.6"W x 12.5"D(smaller than a VL-208), projected weight should be under 30 lbs(VL-208 is 48 lbs)."

FYI, my personal time with the CM208 showed that it's quite different from the VL208. The CM208 is not scheduled for production at this time. From my ears at the time:

CM208:
open, clean and accurate, nice depth/bottom, notes on the lower strings are well defined, highs are smooth, nice dimensional, open sound. A small NL210 with dividends.

Compared to the VL208
the VL has darker low-low mids, thicker native sound, all notes seem to be colored by that thicker low-low mid-character, the low end is not as clean and defined.

I liked it a lot, but it's not a VL208 version 2006... and I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I've always felt the VL208 is inherently dark, I gig my pair more these days for electric bass, and the first thing I do is move the mid and high knob to 2 or 3 o'clock. I'll be interested in hearing Tom's opinion as well as comparisons to his VL208 cabs.

Bob,
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but as I recall the NL prefix in EA's model numbers designates that the cabinet uses neo drivers. If that's the case what does the CM prefix designate.

If that's the case that could certainly be the reason that the cabinet is a bit heavier than we thought it might turn out to be.

I love internet buzz.

Three people have played through the thing. Nobody mentions a thing about double bass through them on the gig and we are already selling our 208's for $250.

Send them all to me!

It looks alot like the my Wizzy-M w/ the sideports & all, but the W-M is like 30 lbs. I have to say this cab is the ****! I'm enjoying them more and more for DB AND Slab (two stacked w/ the slab). W/ DB a single Wizzy-M is about the most natural sounding cab I've ever tried.
Warm, present, articulate all at the same time w/ great spread in the room. Used it in a concert of Swing and Klezmer tonight in nice sounding little theater. We went w/ a very un-amped sound w/ only clarinet and vocals lightly in the house. Bass thru a W-M (w/ a Realist powered by an AI Focus 2r III) only, w/o any mic or DI. Even at low volume the bass & Wizzy filled the whole theater from the stage w/ as good a sound as I could ever want.
I think I had the master at noon and the volume at maybe 1 - 1.5 at the most. It has a way of sitting dynamicly perfect at a mix at which other cabs need more gain.
This cab also makes rough acoustics much easier to deal with and for a little light box it can get surprisingly loud if need be.
I'm sure the new 208 will be just as killin'. Those EA guys sure got a gooood thing goin' on.

I would think for the CM208 to be rated at 400 watts it would have to be heavier than the Wizzy-M.
