Very cool. I don't care about the NM 208, as I've not yet heard a neo speaker that I liked. At 41 lbs, the CM 208 should be great. A pity there's no CM 108. :D

The neo drivers for the NM-208 were not perfected at the time that went to press. But, now that they have them, it is my understanding that the NM-208 (like 30 lbs, I believe) is replacing the CM-208. John sounded very excited about these neo 8's, which use the same motor as the neo 10's in the NL-210.

That is very interesting news, while it still gives us no indication of when they are released we can see that it is no rumor and is happening.

Great News! I wonder if the guys at EA are happy that this is out since their site is not yet updated....and the potential CM / NM 208 switch?

That is really interesting and I ws about to start a thread///I've got these two 1x8's on a neo and the other not (from LDS) and though they sound good together, I never take out the neo as the single: the 2 way ( I don't actually know what Don puts in if it aint a neo...) sounds soo much better (and is 5lbs heavier but worth it). SO are you not interested in the Wizzy 10's but more intrigued by the new 208?

I'm intrigued by the idea of a CM 208, but not so much about a neo. I have an LDS neo 3-way 8" cab, and it sounds great in my living room. On the gig, it rings hollow somehow. I've been tempted more than once to pull one of the drivers out of my VL series cabs and throw it in there and see what happens...or the driver from the Falk tiny mite 1x8, which is a basic Eminence, I think. Something about that Neo driver in the LDS just doesn't get it in a mix.

I'd suggest one not throw out the baby with the bathwater. The fact that some have not liked their neo drivers may not be reflective of the neo magnets, per se.

That's right. The NM-208 is actually a case in point. It started off as a neo design from the get go, but John Dong was not happy with the performance he was getting from the 8" neo drivers he tried at that time. So, he went 'old school' and used ceramic drivers. Personally, the CM-208 didn't seem all that heavy to me, and I thought it sounded great. But, talking to John at NAMM, he seemed honestly excited about the performance potential of the 'new' NM-208, and said that the new driver performs very well. I'm a big fan of the NL-210 (one of the few neo cabs that I have zero qualms with), and the idea of using the same voice coil, etc. on the 8" drivers leaves me feeling rather optimistic with regard to the NM-208.

Of course, the proof is in the pudding, and we should all withhold judgment until we've heard it.

I should also add that in general, I strongly agree with Chris and generally prefer the performance of ceramic drivers. BUT, for whatever reason, the NL-210 seems to perform very well (and this is, of course, IME/IMHO, and YMMV), so I am hopeful! :)

Thanks you'se guys. I will wait impatiently. The idea of 2 wizzy 10's so damn small (and I love having one of my 1x8's tilted way back wedge style) is very tempting but an M line 208 doesn't look like a back breaker either. Since reading about the NM 208 I might keep the LDS 2 way and get the 208...Gotta hear these things foist tho...

Thanks for that, Tom - I was beginning to wonder if it was just me. :help:

About my question about the LDS 108 cab; if it was your cab and you didn't like the neo driver, would you try one of the EA VL series 8's in there, or would you go for a basic Eminence from the tiny mite? I'm sure both are available, and I'm also pretty sure I'd take a bath if I tried to sell that cab, so I'd like to experiment with it.

Thanks for the update. I would think that a NM-208 would have two things going for it that you cannot get with the VL 208. It should weigh about 10 lbs less and the SPL should be significantly better on the newer cabinet. The trick is that John has to design a cabinet that sounds as good (or better) than the VL 208. But, after all, he designed it in the first place.

When you get a couple of the Wizzy 10 cabs (if you don't already have them), could you check out a vertical stack of the M-Wizzy 12 on bottom with a pair of the Wizzy 10 stacked on top (guess you'd need to use a power amp or a couple of heads since the Wizzy 10 are 4ohm only) and let us know how they sound.

Seems like that would be a killer stack...:bassist:

Tough call. Since you have a VL-108 or two on hand, that might an easy experiment. Or you could take all the box & port measurements and then shoot for the best fit.

And if it is close to as loud as the CM-208, it will have succeeded on both counts. :cool:

I have to strongly agree with Tom...I picked up an NL-210, and could not be happier.
I tried to meet up with Chris at the Jazz Kitchen to let him check it out, but weather intervened...I guess I'll have to schlep it down to Louisville...
