Double Bass New EA VL208?

Ric, if you haven't heard the EA Wizzy cabinets yet, you oughta if you can.

I know Tom Bowlus (and many others) have posted lots of info on the Wizzy. And I believe Tom may have actually stated at one point that he slightly preferred the Wizzy to the VL 208 as a stand-alone cab. But please correct me if I'm wrong Tom! And I'm not exactly sure if this was based on trials w/ slab or DB or both.

I think Tom describes these two EA cabs as "different but similar," although he does it much more eloquently than that and in much more detail.

By the way, I am not trying to talk anyone out of the proposed NL 208. Just sharing my enthusiasm for the Wizzer.

I am anxious to try pairing a WZ-112P powered Wizzy with my iAMP-200 C Wizzy combo. (Although if I ever have to play that loud, it would probably tick me off ... hm).

"I love my Wizzy!"

And I just love saying that. Goofy, I know. A bumper sticker to that effect would raise some eyebrows I reckon.

But it is a great cabinet for both double bass and slab, "in my opinion" of course.

JazzTimes Magazine just wrote a stellar review of the iamp 200 and 500 Combo for jazz GUITAR! - not even bass - they're finally starting to come around :D

I will take your recommendation and (Toms) and see if I can find one
somewhere. St. Louis is not exactly EA land. I have both the VL 108 and
the 110 and I love them. What I really need is a little larger cab. I passed
on the VL 208's because I was looking for something lighter. Wished I hadn't.

Believe me, no one could talk me out of a NL 208 if they ever put them into production!

I have never had much luck with powered extension cabinets. Had
one of the the early GK MB series with the powered cabinet, never cared for it, but then it wasn't a Euphonic Audio product.

Yeah, that could be a problem. There was a guy who wanted to
call my Clevenger Bass, "Clevey". I used to give him a wide birth.

No, that is correct! I almost didn't want to believe it, but that was what my ears were telling me. Of course, it could have been a 4 ohm versus 8 ohm thing (though I tried to equalize volume levels). That particular experiment was with electric. I spent some time comparing two NL-210's and one CxL-112 to one and two Wizzy's with upright, though, and again, I slightly preferred the Wizzy's (though they each had some very strong points and all sounded great).

Well, the first thing that happened when I got it home is my son put it on his head, so there must be something inherently compelling to kids about those EA hats! ;)

Seriously, though, that is a very high quality hat, and I like it a lot! And of course, the red on black is the "classic" way to go! :p

Checked in with John yesterday, he says the cab is finalized but he's still working with the driver design, waiting for the second cut of drivers. He's exploring cone materials and surrounds.

It won't come out of the oven 'til it's done, guess we'll have to wear bibs to catch the drool in the meantime.

John is very particular and is working diligently to come up with the right sound and the right cabinet.

I want to be the first to call dibs on any of those heavy, inefficient VL208s that will be for sale once the new NM208 comes out. :D Growing up the youngest of five, I'm perfectly content with hand-me-downs. ;) (Especially if is has an "EA" on it!)

If not, den go'head 'n' putt me down fer onna dem der NMs.
