Double Bass New EA VL208?

So, will these bad boys come in 8 and 4 ohm versions? Since I'm seriously in the market for a EA rig, I might need to consider one at 8 ohms to link up with another cabinet. I really appreciated Mr. Dong's replies and descriptions -- and may very well be considering one of the newer 2x10 cabinets for the reasons stated.

I used to own a very beat up, used SWR 4x8 Henry Jr. cab. Although it farted hard at louder volumes with electric bass, it actually sounded quite nice with my upright. I sold it because it was just too beat.

I'm very intrigued by the idea of an EA reissue of this popular model. I'd love to hear one paired up with a 2x10 and an iamp 800!

It seems that I get monthly request for a VL-208.

I find it a little hard to justify producing a 2x8 cabinet since our NL-210 is 4 lbs lighter than the VL-208 and is just a little larger( NL-210:22.5"H x 17"W x 15"D vs VL-208:18.5"H x 17.5"W x 13.5"D). The NL-210 moves more air and plays louder.

If EA were to produce a new 2x8 cabinet then it would have the following parameters: M-Line configuration, Neo magnet, Kevlar woofer cones, 19.0"H x 15.6"W x 12.5"D(smaller than a VL-208), projected weight should be under 30 lbs(VL-208 is 48 lbs).

I expect the 8" neo drivers should be available sometime this summer. Prototypes will be made if the driver meets our requirements. The decision to market the NM-208 will be based upon dealer reaction at the Trade shows.

It's almost summer...there's one bass player right here that's getting a bit antsy...

I spoke with John the other day. The wait is on the proto drivers. Looks like late summer/early fall till we see them. John has the rest of the box, the M-Line, etc designed and ready to go. patience ...patience ....patience

Sorry if I'm questioning the obvious, but does this mean that they'll actually go through and build these cabs or is EA just "thinking" about it?

I believe that EA will build prototypes. Releasing them is another story. Will the sound they way Ea wants them to? Can they be produced at a reasonable cost. Does the demand warrant the investment? There are still many questions. But I did want to let you know that EA is actively working on the development.

Hello,
Unfortunately, I just became a member Talk Bass and didn't
participate in this original forum. I would like to make one observation.
John was alluding to the fact that, if they do indeed build a NL 208 it would
not necessarily have the two 5" midrange drivers that the VL 208 did.
Now, I'm not a acoustical engineer or a speaker designer, but I
would have to think that by changing the crossover points to
match the upper frequency of a "8 Neo driver in a two way
cabinet and eliminating the two 5" midrange drivers would
change how that cabinet sounds.
