NEW Electro Harmonix LIZARD QUEEN Octave/Fuzz Pedal

Got my small box EHX in today; sounds good; was planning on running it in the loop of my HX Stomp so I could blend but this one does not play well with buffers. I like it, think it'd sound great with the blend, but I don't feel like buying another pedal to go with my pedal :/
IMO, it sounds okay with a buffer but it doesn't sound quite the same without one. i like it better without one (it has less top end that way), but the Nathan Navarro (as well as others that use a blend with it by nature are using a buffer with it). Nathans using an EHX Switchblade pro that has quite a few buffers in it.

to see what i mean about the switchblade, here's the block diagram for it:

It didn't play nice in the FX loop of the Stomp at least; some fuzzes do, some are very very noisy as a result. Maybe that's more or less what I meant

Awesome. The balance changes both the tone and the gain? That was mentioned, darker tones are also lower gain. Blend looks really good to bring in more bass with more definition.

It seems like there is some redundancy with volume, blend, master, but none change the fuzz gain. (?)
the gain on the original is fixed, and i didn't want to change that.
the reason that has a master is that it enables more control of the volume of the clean signal, which allows the clean to go past unity, and can also be a clean boost if desired.

Just heard from Sweetwater, the small Lizard Queen (JHS/EHX) is on the truck! Should arrive tomorrow, will post a review of sorts after I tinker with it a bit. I had forgotten all about it! lol

I bought one, mostly for guitar, but I tried it with bass as well, with my headphone amp. It seems to work, at least if you don't expect crazy low end. And this is that sort of beast you shouldn't expect a lot of low end to begin with.

It's a cool pedal with surprisingly many usable sounds. I'll test it with bass and amp when I get a chance.

Yeah I can see mostly using it on guitar, special cases on bass. Might be worth rigging some sort of a bass bypass around it.

I really like an octave fuzz. Octavix! Much more jagged and interesting than the usual muff types. But not so many come with a clean blend or adjustable bass eq to keep your low end and bass articulation.

However the blue fuzz on the MXR Suboctave Bass Fuzz sounds to me rather like octave fuzz and it includes clean blend, and suboctave of course. Also, I saw the Catalinbread Octapussy has a depth control to bring in more bass apparently. And the SolidGoldFX 76 Mk2 has some good eq options that might help, LPF and mids.

that's why i added a clean blend to my clone of the Lizard Queen (as well as a master volume):

I can’t look at this pedal without seeing the glaring error they made by using an “H” instead of an “N” in that typeface.

LIZARD QUEEH

kind of looks like the I is a J, too (LJZARD QUEEH?)

This was more or less intentional. Daniel Danger of Tiny Media Empire did the graphic design based on the odd ball nature of how EHX would do things in the 70’s. There a whole JHS episode about it.

Great build! Did you implement the master volume the same way it is done on the bass muffs? Curious about it because I am eager to try the Lizard King and preparing to mod. Master volume seems to be a sensible alteration seeing that they kept the fixed-gain-thingy.
