Someone in the Short Scale Bass Forum suggested folks over here might be interested in my post about my new Epiphone Masterbilt, so here you go.
Side-by-side of Ibanez AFB200 and Epiphone Masterbilt. (Sorry about the flash glare.) The fit and finish of the Epiphone are beautiful. As you can see, the body is a bit bigger than the Ibanez. It's also a bit deeper, maybe 1/2 inch. It has a big sound unplugged; I think it is louder than my Guild B4CE. It feels great to play. It came with the action set pretty high, so I lowered it via the wheels on the bridge. As far as plugged-in sound goes, further study is required. I played it plugged in last night (Ampeg PF50T, Fender 1 x 12 cab), but I had to set up quickly, and did not have much opportunity to play with the EQ on the amp. The controls are wheel-style, mounted at the edge of the lower F-hole. The controls on the instrument are pretty limited, just volume and tone without a lot of room between "all" and "nothing." Pretty much all of the tone setting will need to be done at the amp. I don't think last night's test drive was adequate for reporting purposes, so I will keep you in suspense for a little longer in that regard.
