Impressive. I did not need to see this video. It's unsettling, in a Gas-x sort of way. He needs to do a fret re-count, however. I get twenty, not twenty-two.

Tnanks for posting that! The specs i was curious about really are making me want to check this new Embassy out. (Nut is 1.675",which is perfection for me.) I'm not sure about the actual size of the 60's ones,i do remember mine as having a super skinny nut and tapered neck attached to a humongous headstock,a recipe for disaster.

I think they only look similar due to them having the same colour scheme and chrome hardware. Otherwise I think they look nothing alike
It was a nice enough bass,with some great hardware,but i didn't end up liking it enough to keep it.
Just curious, what did you not like about the EB? I played a 5 string version last week and loved everything but the price and I am a 4 string guy.
Thanks. It was from a certain angle in the video. From that angle the top of the horn seem to have that little hook that the pure angle photo you posted doesn't.
Is the 4004 horn slightly different as I had been educating myself on both 4003 & 4004 the few days earlier.
Funny. I had been planning on trying for a used EB 13/14 at the end of this year and a good keeper of a Thunderbird, I. The year or two later. Now..???
I think I'll have to try an Embassy against an EB; plus try the new Vintage Thunderbird and see which come up roses. $ and nut width have the EB & Embassy slightly ahead. But as always, I'll need to try them and see what I actually do want.
Not -great Fret work,and very hot pickups kind of did it in for me.
Overall,it's well balanced,and the bridge and tuners work really well.
Edit-i wasn't really crazy about the finish,either.

I don't know for sure if the 4004 horns are a bit more contoured than the 4003,but i suspect they are. Here's one of my 4004's for comparison.
I had it professionally defretted a few years back. The 12th Fret in Portland,OR removed the frets and placed maple strips into the slots. I am not a great fretless player,and i've had a difficult time finding strings i liked on the bass. It currently has a set of the Optima RB flatwounds on it,and has a very old skool sound,kind of urb ish. Every time I've attempted to post a video on TB,it has failed.
I'm pretty impressed with Epiphone's demos. They know their market, and are speaking pretty clearly to it.
That Embassy has me thinking. I REALLY like the Thunderbird, but at $200 cheaper, better upper fret access, (probably) better balance, better (for me) nut width, and damn similar sound, the Embassy might be the way to go.
I also appreciate that the "in a mix" demos sound like a real mix might sound, without super hyped bass.

Unbelievable..this is what Gibson should have done with the T-bird years ago. So why is this an Epiphone? Gibson marketing is beyond human comprehension.
Convinced my local L + M to bring in one of the T-Birds. Floor guy said they should be around $900 Cdn.
