Double Bass NEW Euphonic Audio iAMP Doubler

I've been thinking about the Doubler as well, but I'd like to hear from some other folks that have tried it in addition to the 2 or 3 that have replied in this thread (and clearly haven't sold me on it yet). I realize this is a new head, but if there's anyone else out there who has it, I'd be interested in your thoughts, to keep this thread going.

I've been using this head all summer. Great sound, punchy and clean. The EQ is rather minimal, but other than that I would totally recommend it.
However, EA really needs to put out a case for it! I've been carrying the thing in a small zipper bag and already 2 of the knobs are slightly bent. Yeah I'm a clumsy oaf and it's my own fault, but I really wish this had a padded bag to go with it.

We are patiently awaiting the new Micro/Doubler Wizzy 10 Backback. The new ones will have a larger pouch for the Doubler.
In the meantime I found a nicely padded, American Tourister, small laptop bag at Marshall's for 15.00. It fits the Doubler, my Boomerang III, a mic and cords and cables

Please clarify your comment about the EQ. That sentiment is often reserved for AI heads and I see you have used those as well.
Although I'm pretty satisfied with my Focus, I would like a bit more punch and EQ ability. No matter what I do, it always sounds a bit dark, middy and muffled and in those problem rooms, cranking the treble to 11 doesn't help.
How do they compare in your experience?

I use a padded neoprene zipper case
It's very light
I got 4 of them at the $1 shop
I keep the EA in one and the Fishman in an other and cables in another and the last one is for spares
I used to use one of them for my netbook computer too

My bass is very bright, and it's hard to dial out the honkiness with most amps. Actually having the mid control at 800 hz helps a lot, as well as using a fishman pro eq with the doubler helps, esp the low mid slider brings in some nice low end. Nothing matches the eq on the iamp 200-pro though, that thing is really nice. When they make a 2 channel version of those I think I'd be really happy.

The EQ in the Doubler/Micro is much more subtle than in the iAMP 200-Pro models. It is a much more simple design that was designed to be very musical. Of course, it cannot have the range of the other iAMP models

when ea was originally designing the micro, i was hoping they would use concentric pots for the eq so you could sweep the frequency and adjust the gain of the frequency with one knob set. that would been cool and would have taken no additional space...
that said, i love the way the micro sounded with both my ebg (fender jazz) and urb (kay). i just got my doubler yesterday and will break it in this weekend...

Do the Notch Filter, Phase Inverter and HPF serve any purpose if you don't plan on using a Microphone?
Regardless of the piezo you would use the notch (Channel 2 only) and HPF would work be very helpful since they effect it's sound as well. A notch filter will
get at the offending note in a less evasive way, but sometimes you just have to cut the lowest frequencies judiciously to get a sound in a particularly boomy room.
Respectively, since the phase shift acts between Channel 1 and Channel 2 two then unless you are using two sound sources, (i.e. two different pickups or a mic and a pickup) I can't see
any benefit you would have from that feature.

To keep you guys updated I am falling 'head over cabs' for the tone in the doubler. So much so that I recently put my beloved Glock Soul up for sale. I do like to have two heads around at all times so I will soon either add a second douber, a micro or IAMP pro to the stable.

I'm really glad that you're liking it and I truly appreciate your input.
On another note, did anyone catch the Patitucci article in Bass Player? I was pleasantly surprised that he is using the Doubler for upright gigs

It's a great head, I'm not suprised at all. If the economy wasn't so slow I think these heads would be all over the place. Soon enough!
There is a thread in the bassists section (Patitucci's new bass) where it looks like he is using the Doubler w/ a Goliath 4x10. Sound great. (Playing included)

Hey guys a few things to update.
First I ordered a case for the Doubler from Mooradian it wasn't cheap but I want to make sure it was well protected. With a 3 week old baby I couldn't add any more baby stuff i.e. a sponge bob bag...
The guys at EA were nice enough to contact me about trying out a doubler with an additional modification which increased the volume significantly, it was really cool of them to do so in the end the original doubler fits my needs better but it did help me understand this amp even better. In the past I had some reservations about this amps volume output and I now recognize even when dimed on the pre and power knobs you get close to 100% clean power which is a huge advantage in my book.
Finally I contacted Mark over at Bob Gs and ordered an IAMP Pro and an IAMP500 bag.
While the Doubler is good for medium sized gigs and perfect for my upright playing it doesn't provide the big monster amp girth for really loud electric gigs where I want a massive push, something that can drive a cabinet like my Glock HR but in a small package. I am pretty sure that the Pro will get this done for me and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
