NEW FROM NAMM. IBANEZ 7 STRING BASS

an interesting aside - the first 7 string bass ever made was made by mike tobias for garry goodman, and it was more along the style of this instrument, from what i recall, as opposed to the standard scale length 7's that are more common now. (i.e. similar to the fender 6 string basses introduced in the 60's).

A lot of guys these days that play guitaristically by plucking [using free strokes and nails] with the thumb and two or more fingers should have less of a problem adjusting to such instruments. Bassists that play with a pick shouldn't have much of a problem either. Thumpers and guys that anchor the thumb and use rest strokes however...

Tactile-wise [improper word usage?] the electric bass guitar has more in common to a guitar than an upright bass. I think it's a great addition to the world of the Fender Bass VI, Silhouettes and Schecter Hellcats of the world. When the economy rebounds, I'd like to get one. I do wonder about that B on the Ibanez though. What's it sound like? What's with the headstock/nut arrangement?

Although he never played it as much as his Ibanez K-7 so he bought an Ibanez Xiphos instead!

I like the look of this Ibanez 7 string. It sounds good, and it could certainly be useful for coming up with some great sounds.

To everyone making generic "useless instrument" comments, are you forgetting the fact that you can use this to make music? :rolleyes:

Hey John, Garry originally wanted his Tobias 7 string to have a shorter than standard bass scale but upon Mike's(Tobias) suggestion he went with a 34" scale instead.

Uh, you guys realize this is made for guitar players, not bass players, right?

I mean in how many instances is the bass player of a band just the worst of 3 guitar players? If I was a guitar player by trade and was put in this position, I would probably buy something that would provide the bass frequencies with as little learning curve as possible.

I would bet people on guitar forums are pumped for this. Since we all play BASS, naturally a guitar that plays bass notes does nothing for us. I think its a cool idea though.
