New Gallien Kreuger MB 210 & MB 115 PART 2:

Went into GC today to buy a combo. It's been a year since I've owned an amp (was just using one at the place I was playing at biweekly). I just quit playing there and decided I need to get an amp. I A/B'd the GK and the Mark Bass 210 combo. Something about the GK just drew me in. It sounded really good with my P bass with the tone rolled on, which I haven't used in while. Nice gritty sound, as I guess is the claim to faim of these amps. The MB was nice but the low end was a little too bloomy for my liking. I guess it's nice to be back in the solid state world.

And it's absolutely laughable that I can carry this amp with one hand. My last rig was a Mesa 400+ in a 6 space rack case (A good 50 or 60 pounds on it's own) and a Mesa 810 (160 pounds). I can already hear my back thanking me.

I took this out to play with a friend today. I was able to carry the amp in one hand and wear my bass case on my back and move everything with one trip. It was so convenient. Sound was great too. We were playing with earplugs... I took them out and was surprised how loud it was. Don't know if I NEED an extension cab, but I'd like the extra punch. I know what adding speakers can do.

I'm not going to say it didn't sound better (Nothing against the GK, it's great, but this rig was pure sex). But man was it a pain to move. I had to sell my car to get a big old mom van. It was a workout just to move it from my car to wherever the venue was downtown.

This fits in the front seat of my sports coupe and I can take everything in one trip without breaking a sweat. I'll stick to this unless I get signed and get some roadies, haha.

Q: Is it loud for a 210 combo?
Q: Is it pretty "low-end heavy" set flat?
Q: Does it get even more "low-end heavy" after break-in?
Q: Can you add an 8 ohm extension cab?
Q: Does it get REAL LOUD when you add an extension cab?
Q: Does it have that "GK" sound?
Q: Is it lightweight?
Q: Does it "move around" sometimes on slick floors because of the combination of light weight and loud, powerful lows?
Q: Do you think GK is having a few QC issues with these amps?
Q: Do you think we're in for a long wait on the MBE extension cabs?
Q: Are they selling boatloads of these light, loud, affordable amps?

Not sure if this has been posted already but it is a very easy fix...I would say it would be easier to just take to your local GK authorized repair shop and they can tighten, replace screws on the back very quickly...rather than deal more with GC.

Another "expected" date is almost here. What odds are we looking at this time?

I don't get the "unexpected demand" reason some people have suggested. Unexpected demand would mean GK is shipping 10 a week, while orders are coming in at 50 a week. That doesn't explain shipping 0 total unless somebody at GK is going to claim that they are stockpiling all the cabs and won't ship to anybody until they can ship to everybody.

The most bizarre angle to all of this is that the 210 MBE seems like it would be exactly the same manufacturing process as the MB210 they are already shipping, minus some electronics, and plus a little more wood/tolex to cover the opening.

Heard from RMC today. Erik says my 210MBE arrived from GK, checked out ok, and is on its way to me! Somebody slap me... I can't believe it. Got a tracking number so we're good to go. After 3.5 months of waiting, wouldn't you know that I'll be out of town on a business trip when it arrives. I'll report on it when I get back next Saturday. My MB210 will no longer be lonely! RMC is the best!

I think I'll believe it when you open the box and it's not a 210MBX. :D

The good news is that the date on MF, Music123, GC moved the date back only a week from 8/7/10 to 8/13/10. So at least we're finally into the one-week-at-a-time delay phase!

Weird thing is happening with my amp. Everything I'm playing and get up on the mic to sing, I get shocked. I have narrowed it down to my amp because I tried all different types of combination of amps, guitars, bass, cables, etc. The only time I got shocked was when I was connected to my MB115. Has anyone else had this problem?
