New GK Neo Cabs

probably for almost 2 years i've been gigging on the 800rb into one (small shows) or two (big shows) neo 2x12 (old size) it sounds just amazing! definately the cab i was looking for in terms of size and weight and tone.

outside of the tolex (i hate rat fuzz) and i am so glad this cab is toltex, i am not the biggest fan of the grill cosmetics (metal silver grill) as i am more into vintage cabs/grills, but that's being nit-picky.

the 800rb just sounds great through the neo 2x12. i am actually sort of falling out of love with my 1001rbII. discovering the 800rb again was really a good thing for me.

i still would love to see a unported, tweeterless, sealed 6x10 with vintage grill neo filled cab w/no wacky middle ampeg HLF to make it 4 ohms speaker thing (just put it a 6 ohms like markbass).

that'd be way up my alley!

I've played both the Avatar 112 and 212, and find them both to be considerably "looser" in the booty than the GK's. YMMV, so try them yourself.

I gigged my 700rbII with the Neo 112 and 212 again this past weekend...... Awesome rig! Outdoor gig, with just our meager pa. There were a couple of local radio DJ's there that said our sound was fantastic. Light, loud, killer sounding, and reliable..... perfect.

I just pulled the trigger on two GK neo 2x12 cabs this past weekend, Music 123 had them on sale for 20% off. I have been really wanting a 4x12 rig for some time, the GK Neo412 looked awesome but I opted for the portability factor of the two 2x12 cabs. People don't seem to rave about them as much as the Genz-Benz 2x12's, but I'm hoping they are a good investment.

I see you've got a GB neox AND a NV610 in your current lineup! I'm really curious to hear your thoughts on how all these compare to each other once you get your rig in.

I have a NV610 also, and I'm looking to go more portable.

Please let us know how it sounds when it comes in!

Will do. I am curious also to see how the GK212 compares to the GB. I used my GB cab for the first time on a gig last May and haven't used it in public since:hiding:. It didn't seem to mate up well with my Trace Head, I couldn't dial in clear mids no matter what I did-which sounds crazy because EVERY review I have ever read on the GB212 is just glowing and praises the tone in all respects. I'm wondering if I need a better head for it or what. It sounds good in the basement with my VB2, but I haven't gigged out with that set up yet. If I like the GK cabs, I may try to sell the GB212 since everyone else seems to really like them.

I love the NV610 with all my heads for rock and blues, but I find it pretty heavy to truck around by myself mainly when stairs are involved. I am also in a funk band and like having the tweeter option if I need to get a bright slap tone.

It was out of stock when I ordered it last weekend on the 20% off sale, the email I got from Music123 said they expect to have it in by 9/23. So it looks like week after next at the soonest. I'm just sorry I didn't go for the full Monty and get a 700rbII while they were onsale, they're back to $599 now (they were going for $480)

I've been calling in for samash to get a set of the Neo as i'm buying. The guy at GK told me the new 410s are 90 pounds, and the rest are just resized, with the 12s modified slightly for sound.

410 is out of the question now.. a 14 year old cant carry 90 pounds. lol

I run a 700RBII into a GK NEO12 + NEO15. It is a killer rig as others have stated here. Balls out, I think that setup is one of the better buys out there for a working bassist.

BTW---I used to own the Avatar SB112 and I would say that the sound is not nearly as tight and focused as the sound from the GK equivlent.

12+15 -> I thought about that combination, too. Seems unusal, tho.

Which revision of the 15 do you own? How would you compare the 12 and 15 soundwise?

Did anybody compare the 210 and 112?

I'm still unsure which cab I should pair my NEO115 II with.
No GC in my area where I could check them out :atoz:

I think I have the original NEO15. The 12 is a bit more punchy and focused. The 15 is a bit mellower and you can feel the 15 thump and move the air. Both sound great on their own though too. I was a bit unsure about the combo but it really sounds great together. I wish I could try it with the matched 12's to hear the difference.

i wasn't the biggest fan of the 4x10 neo, but that's just me. i thought the 2x12 sounded much much better, much warmer.

I also didn't like the single 12" GK neo cab either, it just didn't even sound or handle 1/2 as good as the 2x12 neo does.

the 4x12 sounds great, i played one in a backline a few times. but it is not that manageable at all (think fridge) perhaps side handles could help. 2x 2x12 is much better as an option (unless you have roadies to carry the GK neo 4x12).

i've played through both the GK and the GB and to me, the GK neo 2x12 is far better than the genz cab.

i saw a neo 1x15III cab the other day, the footprint looked a little different (smaller?).

i did try out the 2x10 and 1x15 neo/mb combos. didn't like them at all. on the upside the were very suprisingly lightweight, but sounded lackluster, but than again i didn't like the mb head by itself.

in my opinion, as far as GK goes 410rbh and neo 2x12 are the best cabs they make, the rest are okay.

Anyone running the 2x12 Neo's with a non-GK head? I'm looking for cabinets to pair with my Littlemark Tube800. Does the horn on the GK cabs function just like a regular horn when it's pushed with a non-GK head?

I'm going to try mine with a Peavey VB2 and a Trace Elliot AH350SMX. I am seriously considring a GK1001 or 700rb to compliment my 2-2x12 stack if the other heads don't match up well. I am becoming more and more enamoured with the GK sound-

No, as I do not have a NEOX-112T at my disposal. I may be able to do a similar comparison using the Neo212II and NEOX-212T, though. :cool:

Awesome, thanks for the quick response. That would be useful as from what I understand the NeoX112 has a bit more lows than the NeoX212 until you get up there in volume. But I've heard the NeoX112 described as small 15" cab which is what i'm looking for essentially. How does the GK Neo112 compare to the GK Neo212?
