New Ibanez Talman Basses!

I've had my eye on these Talmans since their release since I favor traditional type basses, and I know Ibanez is known for their great QC, even on cheaper instruments. I just placed my order for the TMB30 in red, coming this week...as I've always been curious about short scale. I'm really looking forward to this 8lb tiny beauty!

GASing for a Talman 605. Would love it more in Green or Ivory — great old-school looks.
I was looking at that one myself! Congrats on the new bass, and please post your impressions of it when you get around to it!
Just a quick update on my Talman obsession. I sent my TMB30 to a tech to get the neck and action sorted. It came back setup very nicely. I had him put Chromes on it. He got the neck much flatter than I could and he sorted out the fret buzz and adjusted the nut which was too shallow. I'm able to get very nice, buzz free action on it now. Even lower than the tech set it. I just love this bass! The neck feels so comfy for me to play and I love the tone with Chromes.
As for the Tri-Fade Burst TMB300, it is a phenomenal bass for the $250 I spent on it, but I think she will go back to GC. I'm not a huge active guy and the weight is a bit much -- heavy like my P. Also, the neck is really sticky. I know I could sort that out with some sandpaper and steel wool, but considering how much easier it is for me to play the shorty, I think the TMB300 will just clutter up the space and not get played much. But I gotta say, it has to be the finest sub-$300 bass on the market hands down. The burst is just gorgeous and the whole thing sounds and plays so great. Highly recommend!!!

Dying to get my hands on the 605.. I'm sure I could be happy with the 105 but every bass I've ever owned has cost less than $200 and I'm ready for something a little higher-quality. For a street price of $549, the TMB 605 looks like an absolute deal.

I was across town and decided to stop by a small music shop in Littleton today, the kind that makes most of its money providing music lesson rooms. They happened to have a TMB100 CAR hanging so I decided to pull it down. Finish was good, grain showed nicely through the finish which looked to be pretty uniform. I didn't plug it in, just messed with it.
First thing I noticed was how ridiculously light weight it was, and pretty well balanced when played sitting down. Body seems to be a bit bigger than the squier VM jag which might be why I found it easier to handle.
The action on this was decent, the truss rod needed at most a 1/4 turn, and I would drop the saddles a bit. Better than most new basses I've played at a shop.
If the electronics and pickups are actually decent I would definitely put this high up on the list of cheap basses to consider and definitely over the squier VM jag (which just had a price bump).
I ended up buying a tin whistle on clearance my 5yro son...

Any of you guys order new pickguards yet? I'm looking at a TMB300 (dig that bridge humbucker) but can't get along with a tort guard (I know, I know...).
I highly rec the 300. I had a time that I was fighting it, then I warmed up and decided to keep it. I just really dig the tones this lady throws out and she's dead sexy.
I have the tri fade burst and the tort looks really good, but a black one would be very svelt.
Dude, totally. The tort on that color is an offense. Pearl or parchment IMO is the only way to go.

Tony at Pickguardian is the man to go to for replacing those awful tort pickguards.
I emailed him back in Feb:
"Most of those projects were cut directly from the original guard. It would be best if you sent your to duplicate. An Ibanez TBM-300 guard in BWB would be $40 plus $7.95 shipping. White Pearloid would be $15 more."
That looks great! There are some very sturdy spray can paints out there that are worth trying out. Look for epoxy-based appliance paints if you want something glossy and super tough. A light sanding of the guard before you spray is a good idea also.
Just took delivery of a soda blue TMB300 from Musician's Friend. Out of the box, this is nicest sub-$300 bass I have ever played. Setup needs a little work but fit and finish are flawless, it sounds decent and the neck is very comfortable. Now, I have to do is get rid of that horrible pickguard...
These basses are pretty nice. I played one at GC and l am. Usually hard to imprdss at GC. Ut these are pretty nice.
