What up, My names Ben. Ive been playing for 3 1/2 years. That probably seems like not long at all to some, but I can hold up my own. Im 17. Im in a Band with no name, and my Church's Praise Band.

Flea from the RHCPs is Awesome.
I love Creed.
My favorite lic is a riff to Amazing Grace that I wrote.

This place is FRIGGIN AWESOME. I just found it two days ago and its great.

Oh, and Veterans- HOW DO YOU GET SO MANY FRIGGIN POSTS????

the best way is to post what you know about, and be a asset to the site, or you can do one word posts like some of the morons.

ask quesions that you care about, but see if the info is here first i.e. "how do i slap" be nice, don't build up posts with stuff like "fieldy vs. mick jagger"
and most of all have fun

tons of info here enjoy it for the greatness that it is, oh yea and welcome :D

rubber - then that's what this site can do for you. I don't think anyone can honestly say they haven't learned a little, if not a ton, here.

I've yet to see anyone respond to the most basic, beginner, questions in a negative manner, (e.g., "Boy, you don't know Baby Ruths from baby s*** about bass, do you?").

No stupid questions here. We remember when the only piece of equipment we really knew how to use was the bass's case. Some may still be working on that! ;)

hi. my name is chewy, and i play a customized squier precision bass and a big amp. i am a nerd, i like to pick my nose, and i wear big glasses. i get A's at school and i'm really smart. but after i started playing bass, i pulled a 180º on my life. now i am a punk kid and i never wear my glasses, and i get all F's at school, and all i ever do is play my bass. nice meeting you.

been playin bout a month and a half, just got my first bass last weekend. I got alot to learn and im gonna be askin alot of questions so, youll see me again.

I just got in a band with two friends I been hangin with since high school, amazingly I beat out another of our old high school buddies who knows about 10 times more than i do. They simply said "He has no rhythm, and you do"

We are just focusing on covering right now, mostly ac/dc and lynard skynard. but basically I only know 3 songs front to back--- Nazerth's hair of the dog, ZZ top's sharp dressed man, and skynard's simple man. oh yeah, and runnin with the devil. LOL

also, if anyone has the tab for ZZ's under pressure, id appreciate it.

AND if anyone knows a great site to learn the BASICs of music theroy, or how to do a proper tuning, (yeah i been told, but it just hasnt sunk in), let me know.

Well, I have been here for a while now, but figured I would introduce myself. My name is Robert. I love listening to guys like Wooten, Myung, Harris, Entwistle, etc, but after 12 years, my chops lag far behind. I can not slap, pop, tap, bend, play Slayer covers or dance the charleston. But, I can sit on my drummer's head and seal the groove. Thank god for Jameson and Collins. Let there be Groove!

After reading that last post, I think it may have come off cocky and arrogant. Let me clarify. I have tremendous respect for the TalkBass community members who have the chops to play circles around me. Trust me, I have tried every exercise I could find to get more technique in my playing, and I just do not have it. I guess that is why some of us are in the community symphony, and some of us are Edger Meyer.

So, all respect is given to the guys with technique AND feel in their arsenel. All I have is feel, so I make it work.

Big Wheel, who originally started the thread, made a good point at the beginning about a lot of new people showing up in the neighborhood and we really don't know squat about folks until they've made a number of posts.

Not that we're nosey, (most of us aren't :rolleyes: ), but if we know, new people are more unlikely to be unfairly flamed or ignored. For instance, if somebody mentions they can play Pastorius', "Teen Town" note for note, one can take into account whether that somebody has been playing for decades or if they just got a Hondo for their birthday, (i.e., they're BS'ing).

Knowing something about a poster will usually cause others to cut the person more slack about what they post.

Put up a thread titled, "John Entwistle couldn't carry Tobin Esperance's bass case" and see what happens.

hey all! i'm an 18 year old, going to oakland university in rochester tryin' to get me some education:c) i fell in love with the bass last year around this time, and i got my own over the summer.

he's a beaut too! a precision bass special, deluxe series. a black finish, gold pick guard, maple wood neck. his name is chugalug. and i'd marry him were it legal.

music isn't my only passion. i love languages (japanese, french, and spanish). i love people (especially men). i love sunsets (call me that romantic freak). i love babies (they are so gorgeous and cute!) and uh... i think that's it so far... if you want to know more! contact me...
