Hello my friends. I've been lurking around talkbass for a loooooong time now and I finally decided to join. I started out playing guitar about 4 years ago, until I discovered I was a bass player soon after winning Steve Vai's rig from GuitarOne magazine's monthly giveaway. I still play guitar, but I am a bass player. I also just recently acquired a drum set that I'm toying with. I love to mod my instruments and I dream of shortscales and six-strings (with wide spacing).

Hey everyone, I just joined today. My name is Martijn, I'm from the Netherlands.

I am a drummer who happens to also be a bassist (drums came first, sorry!). I play in 2 jazzrock/funk bands, one as a drummer , and in the other I was the guitarist for 3 years (because there was already a drummer and a bassist when the group formed). Our bassist quit 2 weeks ago, so I moved up a spot to play bass (which I prefer over guitar). I write a lot of the stuff in the second band and to most of the arranging as well.

I play a Fender Marcus Miller Jazzbass, SWR bass 350 and a 4*10 SWR wm cab. I have some rack effects as well (se-70, sx-700, echo pro), but I am still working on my setup.

My fav. bass players: Meshell N'degeocello, Matthew Garrison, Paul Jackson, Marcello Giulliani .. and some more ..

Actually, my name is Phil and I currently reside in Atlanta GA. I had heard much about the site and finally decided to log on.

An odd bird I am, I play BOTH lead guitar AND bass (5-string being my preference). I play and write in the Progressive Rock style,but enjoy other types of music as well (except for rap, death metal and Top-40/Pop).

Currently working on a new CD of my original stuff, hoping to have it done by late fall, to be titled "Ghost of A Train"

I'm in the midst of shopping for some new bass stuff, leaning pretty sharply towards a Schecter 5-string, still not sure what to do about a head. I do have 2 custom-made cabs each with a single 12" for bass (I like my bass to bark and roaaarrrrrrr!).

I'm new (kinda explains why I'm posting in this thread ). I played bass for about 4 years (14-18 years old), but stopped when I went to university. Now, after not even touching a bass in 3 years, I'm getting back into it.

My experiences so far on the forums have been good. No flaming, no trolling and everyone acts nicely (definately against the norm for an internet forum).

It's great to be a part of the group.

This really is a great place to hang out. There is a wide range of diverse members here that always seem eager to help a fellow TB'er. The Moderators do a great job as well, I have been a member on other forums where it seems things get out of hand all too often. I love the "no politics" rule.

Okay, enough butt smoochin,

My name is Matt, and I have been playing the bass for about twenty five years. I started off playing rock and as I aged my taste changed quite a bit. I am best when throwing down a solid funky groove in an old school R&B band. I love playing all kinds of music as long as it's got a groove. I also love listening to Jazz, both classic and newer styles.

Well I have not been actively playing out in the past few years, so coming here has helped keep my interest up, keeping me informed of all the new gear out there. GAS?? I've always wonder what to call that deep yearning for shinny new basses, amps, and what not. Having a name for it helps me recognize my problem which in turns helps me find relief, but I'm not exactly sure I should thank you for that.

Looking forward to posting here more and I will try to keep my sarcastic wit to a minimum and will try to contribute where I can.

I have just joined today. I am usually over on the intermusic forum (UK) and have the same forum name over there.

I have been playing for about 19 years and have played about 350 gigs.

My profile has details of my gear and interests so I won't bore you with it here!

I play a bit of everything - rock, blues, swing, jazz.

My main band is called psychoalex and we are a pub/club/functions band that do hits from 1960s onwards.

I also play with a couple of other really good musicans and we hope to be releasing a CD of our own original stuff soon. We will have some free-downloads soon. I can't tell you the name because the intermusic guys are not allowed to know yet!!

A quick introduction from me! I'm a 19 year old bass player from the UK and I've been playing for approximately 5 years. Always looking to discover new bands/artists, techniques, theory, pretty much anything and everything to do with bass! I have been self taught up until recentlywhere I have just started taking lessons to give myself that extra bit of guidance and feedback on my playing!

My favourite bass player at the moment has got to be Marcus Miller. I love the way he has crafted his own signature slap style and can quite literally make his bass 'sing'. Anyway thats about it from me, hope to help out as much as I can and definately look forward to learning some new things on the way!

Hello, My name's Chris, and I've been playing bass for about 3 years now, albeit inverted style. (righty bass played lefty, no restringing) So far this has not only treated me well, but also allowed me to create new styles of slapping and tapping that can't be reproduced with conventional style playing!
Has anyone else out there done anything similair? I'd be interested to know.

hey all, im brendon, i play bass, i have a replica of a musicman stingray 4 (i think the brand of my bass is 'opel') its a nice bass, iv been playin bass for about 7months now.. and im absolutely luvin it!! ANY ADVICE OR HELP WILL BE MUCH APPRECIATED!! im teaching myself atm, mostly just off tabs and whatnot.... and little things i pick up on the way, hey btw, does anyone know any bass chords (im assumin someone will) im interestin in playing sum bass chords....

I've been posting for a few weeks now, but I haven't gotten about to introducing myself yet, so here goes:

I'm Dave. I've been playing for around five years now and am heavy into jazz and classic rock. My favorite composers/biggest inspirations are John Coltrane, Jaco Pastorius, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Thelonius Monk and J.S. Bach. All in all I am very laid back, and hope to have a lucrative (not a requirement as long as I'm happy) career in bass playing and composing. I also have interests in the written word; I absolutely love the writings of Bob Dylan (Mr. Tambourine Man is some of the best writing I've ever read) and Hunter Thompson. I'm in a band with my father and my twin brother (we play mostly Grateful Dead, but more stuff from that era as well) in addition to an all original band I am in with my brother and friend. We write and play mostly blues or jazz inspired rock and roll music. I'm also in my high school's jazz band (I'm 16 and a junior in high school), where we play a mix of things, but mostly funk, including The Chicken for any of you Jaco/Pee Wee Ellis fans.

Did I get a little carried away there? Sorry.

Edit: I forgot to mention my gear! My main axe is an MIA Fender Deluxe Jazz with four strings, but I also have an Alvarez 6 and a fretless SX 5. I run them through a Hartke HA3500 head, into an Avatar SB112. As far as for what I'm currently searching, I would love an Avatar 210 Neo to go along with my 112, and would really love an MIA Fender Deluxe series fretless Jazz.

Anyhow, that's me in a nutshell.

Love that fender sound, I do alot of motown/Soul/Disco and the fender fits in well.
