New mesa subway amps and cabs!

I want to know what you play , pedal board, etc. I’m after exactly that rig this year.

I can get the same feel from the AK 12’s with a few extra tweaks from the amp but there’s something in the simplicity of the single cab, no tweaking set up that’s rather rewarding.
I’ve really enjoyed the D800 and the Plus, but the WD has punched my ticket.
No Voicing Knob? No big deal. Passive Mid Knob covers all my tonal wishes.
No Deep Switch? Don’t miss it with the WD. It’s got plenty of booty in it.
No Bright Switch? The WD doesn’t need it. It’s bright enough as is.
I’m still wanting to try the Mesa 215 but will have to move some pieces to facilitate this.

The WD-800 is my Goldicorn amp.

I had been holding out, and was thinking getting the cab first, but I’m ordering the amp tomorrow. I have enough cab, I want to hear that amp, and no Alberta L&M, indeed no store in the country if I heard right, had one in stock last weekend.

I’ve ordered one in at L&M North. Don’t have a delivery date yet.

I’m at the beginning of restarting an old band (originals, metal) and we figure we’re still a couple months out from gigging.

When it comes in I’ll send you a PM and you can go try it before I pick it up. Just don’t try to talk them into giving it to you and ordering another one for me. :)

Haha nahhh I wouldn’t do that to a guy, you should play it first. Might give me an excuse to get out of the house, if you want to test drive it in store.

Here's my settings from last week, with a P Bass and a pair of the SW115 cabs - with one cab, I set it on the ground, tilt up, and turn on the Deep switch:

Usually all I have to do is tweak the Voicing knob one way or the other to sit in the mix the way I want to...

215 review morning after.
Keep in mind I play in a hard rock band and I never play without overdrive/distortion. Unfortunately most of my dirt pedals sound bad with the cab, even with the tweeter all the way off. They are just too harsh. I managed to find a couple that are good with it and 1 (Southampton Fifth Gear) that sounds really good with it.
I will keep the higher gain stuff for the svt I guess. Other than that, it is a very good sounding cab clean or with a little crunch.

That's interesting. My 2x15 sounds much more subdued with OD and distortion than what I'm used to. I find myself turning up the treble on my amp with this cab when using dirt. My other cab is a Hathor 212 which is very articulate so I guess it's not really an apples to apples comparison.

Yah I think it’s because I am used to an svt810 and have been playing one for so many years. With the D800, 215 and Southampton Fifth Gear, I get a very early kyuss-qotsa Nick Oliveri tone which I dig.

Thanks for this. It could be too that the speakers might break in a bit with some time and pounding (lol), most will, and that tends to shave a little off the very top end as they gain some flexibility/lose some stiffness.

The SVT speakers are quite heavy voiced, which works petty well with distortion. It's all about the tradeoffs, the low frequency extension is nowhere near as good for instance.

You need a cab sim after the distortion. If you ever go direct into a PA you’ll sound even worse. Its a pain but a reality unless you can count on always micing your SVT (or never needing PA support). I use a darkglass b3k because it has a cabsim like high end rolloff built in.
