New Mike Adler TWELVE STRING BASS????

Bryan,
When I drag the photo from Bernie's post onto my desk top and get info on it,the size reads 208kb(207,908 bytes). If I try to up load that to the Go Pro site,it comes back with "files must be no larger than 150k.I don't have any photo software that resizes.Suggestions?
I just want to replace the existing 9 string photo there.Besides, per John Turner's suggestion, my new TB handle will be my name.

That's odd.... I'll email you the pic that I posted, Garry. It's about 50k on my PC. We'll see if that works better.

I posted the photo up at the Go Pro site,which is a buyer's guide for hiring union musicians across the U.S. and Canada(link in an earlier post).
I was looking over "Maple Leaf Rag" and now I can play the Ab6(octave 6) which is the highest note in the piece.Having 12 seperate strings allows me to play the stride left hand piano bass and afte beat chords with the left and play the melody with some notes in octave with the right hand.

Now I can relate all those ledger line notes to strings and frets that were off in never never piano land before.This instrument is a valuable learning tool that brings the piano and most orchestral instruments under your finger tips.I still will bring my Hofner 4 string to the gig to play "Dock of the Bay", my Tobias 7 to play my duo's music, but the 12 is the ultimate stand alone solo instrument .I think as a bass player ,knowing I can use my bass skills to access most music in the same way a pianist does, I feel comfortable selecting a 4 ,or 6 ,or 7 ,or 9 string for the particular project/gig.As this unfolds, I think not having to put down the bass to play something I only was able to play on a piano or guitar before will be nice.

For myself, i can resolve the whole "ERB issue".Yes ,you only need 4 strings to be a bass player.You can apply your bass technique to gain access to everything other instrumentalists have access to because you are not only a bass player,you are a musician.Tubby the Tuba was a bad influence on my young mind.

Hey. Wow! I get back from a couple of L.A. engagements and you guys are still going at it. Great. That's what this site is for.

As far as #1. is concerned: Although I am Married for nearly 9 years now with a new 5 month old Son (That's 2 now), so I don't "Road Dog" it as much as I used to, my answer to statement #1. is: Don't bet on it, Sunshine.:eyebrow:

As far as #2. is concerned: I never doubted Al's abilities, and wasn't really refering to 9 strings (at least the sub-contra tuned ones) in as much as I was this 12 string.....thing.

I have decided to look at this instrument in the same way I view Garry's talent...as a "novelty". :ninja: As the exception.

When I say that I mean it like this: Having heard some of Garry's stuff, he obviously has a very unique talent for making (good) music with an instrument like this, where as, in the hands of most other players, no matter how talented otherwise, it will probably be more effect than effective.

I thought you were talking about 9+ strings in general. If it matters to you at all, Al plays an 11-string now as well, and he'll be playing it on Jay Leno with Vanessa.

I'm usually a Letterman guy, but he's all repeats this week (Plus Will Lee, along with Anthony Jackson, is one of my all time favorites. He, for me, represents exactly what a "Bassist" should be.).

I'll check the schedule.

Al said it was because Vanessa's cousin passed away:
"Vanessa's cousin passed Sunday. They won't be able to reschedual the J Leno show. The taping will be at a later date. Thanks ! Al Caldwell"
