Ooo, I got one! I looked for this for a long time, and it's absolutely smokin. I'll never sell it.

Sweet bass!

Does it have NJ4's or was it the bass you modeled them after?

Im thinking of asking Carey Nordstrand if he'll overwind some jazz pickups and pop them into a cover the size of my EMGs. The bass sounds killer, but Im leaning more towards that classic passive pickup sound these days.

You have to describe the sound of the bass when you get it.

It has NJ4's. The original pickups were actually very cool, but I had to change them out. It was the responsible thing to do. ;) Now it sounds just amazing. And on this bass it's not just the pickups. For some reason, it has some serious mojo. It's probably one of the best sounding J basses I've ever played.

Yea! Another excuse to post this picture!

Left: Ash Dinky J body with Aero Type I's, wenge/ebony neck, stainless steel frets. (my personal bass)

Right: Alder/Quilt Maple Dinky J body with basslines pickups and aggie OBP-3, maple/pau ferro neck, stainless steel frets, and hipshot trem. (Built for the Bass Player review of the trem)

My favorite touch... the grippy knobs!

How Jazz-like do these sound? Or, how do they sound since they don't have the traditional Jazz pups?
This bass has EMG 40J's which are Jazz pickups in a Soapbar casing. It has a very aggressive, mean and nasty Jazz bass sound. Give a listen to:

The current 24 fret 5 string basses have different pickups that do not have a jazz bass sound.

Is that a MIM Deluxe Active Jazz? How does it play?

It is. I played 7 or 8 other Fenders at the music store to include Am. Series J's and P's and Am. Deluxe J's and P's, and this bass played and sounded better than the others. The acton is great, fast neck, and excellent tone. I got it new for $499, so I couldnt resist.

I'm kinda partial to this one. It plays like a dream. And it looks cool.

And I've been working on this one. A 1998 Jazz Deluxe, with Nordstrand Pup's BadA$$ V bridge, and J-retro Deluxe preamp. I dare say, it's the best playing and sounding bass anywhere for under $800.00.
