New Traynor YBA 100!!

Ok, I have gotten around to re-biasing the amp. Just backed off one set of tubes until the led just went out. Raised the other pair until the led went on then backed off until it just went out.

And having primarily played three basses through the amp, I find it interesting how different the tones are with each. My Gibson Midtown is quite polite, but also quite boomy - a mudbucker at the neck will make it boomy. The Thunderbird (currently tuned DGCF) sounds more aggressive (as you might expect). But the Jack Casady really blows me away. It is really aggressive through this amp, even with impedance set to 50.

For signal path: bass-> hotwax (hot tubes side on with drive about 10:00 and blend about 10:00, so mostly clean) -> Bass Preacher (compression 10:00, but makeup gain about 2:00) -> Amp

Although I have seen the same difference with SS amps (most recently SB-200), the differences are much greater through this amp.

Just got my replacement unit. I do know that UPS delayed my original delivery by several days, and it obviously took a hard shot during shipping. So hard that there was an actual divot on the bottom front of the enclosure. (I know you're supposed to be able to throw Traynors off roofs and all, but uh...do that to somebody else's amp, not mine!) So I'm not sure that had anything to do with it, but it couldn't have helped.

Anyway the new unit sounds terrific, is super quiet and all seems well. Hats off to the Traynor/Yorkville warranty department, and BIG PROPS to Mike Lomax at LoMax Sound. I believe his commercial user handle on here is
bebass Sho Me Music. He went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. Troubleshooting with me on the phone after 10pm, keeping me completely informed during the whole process, and even went so far as to pay for my new amp upfront so I would get it shipped ASAP instead of waiting on the return to get there over a holiday weekend. Super impressive. So if you ever see him on Reverb just know that he's the real deal.
Thank you. It was a pleasure to work with you. As you know, I bought one of these for myself and hated to hear yours had an issue.

And, just for clarity, at the first of the year we changed the name from Sho Me Music to LoMax Bass.

In other aspects of the conversation I see on this page, a discussion is about pedals. I have tested a multifunction modeler pedal with the amp and it worked fine just like in other amps. It was interesting to note that I liked it with guitar better than with bass as it turned my bass amp into a tube guitar amp. For my taste, for bass, I prefer the amp without pedals as the tone shaping integrated into the amp had a better sound to my ears than the tone shaping in the pedal. But then again, there are a gazillion pedals out there and in general, I have found I usually prefer in front of the amp instead of input to the effects return Or in the effects loop, although technically a multifunction modeler should be cleaner into the effects return.

I'm loving a return to roots with my YBA 100 and getting a wide range of tones without taking my pedal board out of its case.
I'm really pleased with the pre straight into the board finding everything from OD crunch to Motown bloom.
Have been resisting getting a tube based DI pedal for months and I'm so glad I saved my money for this. GAS cured!

Should get a go at "loud band " practice with more cab soon...

Love this lightweight amp.

BIG block question guy, I think someone said 47lbs, but nothing official yet.

Yba100 owners question. I'm running through a tc115neo and find that the mid knob above 1k doesn't seem to do anything to the tone (same on my other model). I believe the neo115 goes up to 8k so I assumed there would be some tonal changes
When cutting or boosting this. Sweeping from 0 to 1k of course has a huge impact and sounds like a wah but anything above noon on the mids dial doesn't seem to do anything. I've got bright and resonance on if it matters.

Perhaps my cab has a huge high mid dip and can't reproduce those frequencies?

Ive been away on R&R in the country for over a week and have been limited to lurking on TB. I got to play with my toys tonight so I made up three more YBA 100 samples.

No effects, compression or post EQ. Only my trusty FDeck on the input and DI straight into my zoom L20:

Precison with old Roto swing bass & sloppy pick:

Precision with old Labellas & fingers:

I hope to take my YBA 100 out tomorrow to band practice so I can stretch its legs. Ill try to remember to check this out. It sure seems to respond through the board.

Great :bassist: The overdriven sound on the Rotosound clip comes from the yba100 preamp ?

Oh! If the sb115 gives up, I know what to get next heh. This is the exact amp I needed a few years back. Ended up with heavy stack instead...

My only worry is that, 48 lbs while portable is still awkward. I would love to see some side handles on v2 to assist with multi human stair transportation.

Anyone else get a chance to test out the yba100 mid knob above 1k? I spent a short while yesterday going through settings. It's super subtle if it is Infact doing anything above 1k. The lower half of the knob otoh is very impactful to the tone.

There's not a lot of bass timbre up there unless you're rocking fresh strings on a Rickenbacker.
