New: Zoom B3n Multi-Effects

Maybe we could have everyone vote for the top three patches we would like to see Zoom release and then send that to Zoom? Perhaps a showing of directed interest might encourage Zoom to do something for us more often than a few times a year. Thoughts?
Not a bad idea. I know many vendors have people who regularly post on these forums, it would be nice if Zoom was here. I am sure they would get lots of valuable information from this forum.

Based on experience with B3 vs G3 in the past, I'm bit skeptical about the updates. Yes they're improving with the 2 last updates few months back, but let's not put high expectations on them. Zoom is one of very few fx brands which still regularly release new products specific for bass (other than Boss, Ehx, tech 21), but I still think that they don't treat us like how they treat guitar players.

As much as I love getting updates to hardware I purchase, I find it’s better for my sanity if I don’t dwell on them and work with the product as it came out of the box. I have purchased too many products in the past that were an update away from being really good products. Updates never came and the products never reached their true potential.

Saying this, I do factor the regularity of product updates into a purchase and one factor for my purchase of the B3n, albeit a small factor, was the frequency of updates the G3n and it’s bigger brothers have received. I expect ZOOM will give us a couple of really good updates but not at the frequency of our spoiled for choice Guitar brethren. As bass players we really only have a couple bass only multi-pedals to choose from so until someone comes up with a killer third option we are at the mercy of BOSS and ZOOM.

It's not just about the guitar stuff. If you look at the Zoom news releases, you'll see that they rotate through the pro audio and other gear, as well.

They've got a lot of catching up to do...

...and ordered. I can't wait!

So cool it has darkglass models in there. (well - for me anyway - I don't know about darkglass)

Anyways - I'll play - 3 things I would love to have added to the pedal that isn't actually in my hands yet:

GK RB series amp - any will do.
RAT
...and how cool would it be to have a model of a classic synth - the ehx bass microsynth.

I was very impressed with the Dsrkglass models including in the B3n. They offer a pretty good simulation of the real pedals!

+1 ... TalkBass people are the better product managers.
Honest and immediate customer feedback - opinionated and not always representative of the majority of bedroom players but there’s a wealth of information available for market research for the major companies none the less!

My advice to them would be to release guitar products only, but to sell a compatible $10-50 bass firmware upgrade for their units (since bass versions are that much more expensive anyway). That way they don’t have a divide between what hardware is available for either and they don’t take the perceived risk of releasing a failed bass product. We can then use our gear for both guitar and bass if we want. Win win all round.
That’s some free market research for y’all companies out there, my brain is available for hire but no more free samples of my ingenuity will be provided at this time :p

This is a good idea...if ZOOM had this option I suspect they would have sold truckloads of G5n’s to bass players, myself included.

Been playing around with mine for last few days
Amp sims are very good, particularly like the Ampeg. And very impressed with the Trace Elliot, both running through my ashdown all set at flat. Not so keen on the Markbass, this is inferior to my ashdown amp fender amp ok and Aguilar not bad.

Four different fuzz effects all excellent, and the blueberry effect is so good I have sold my blueberry pedal as users 90% as good as the real one.

Dark glass is ok but have not used a real one so can,t compare.
Phaser effects are not too great so will continue to use my sepetr phaser.

The pre loaded patches 90% of them I have no use for apart from a bit off fun.

Markbass amps don't sound very distinctive to my ears anyway; I thought it was an odd choice for a model. The Ampeg model is beautiful.

I used my B3n on a gig for the first time Saturday - wedding gig. I find these pedals behave differently at gig volume than they do at home, so I was looking forward to hearing how this one did.

Successful outing, but I think I can amp up the crunch on my dirty patches; some of it seemed to fall out at volume. We do that tune "Shut Up and Dance" which has a very similar bass patch to the Big Data tune "dangerous", a mix of overdrive, compression, and some kind of chorus or phaser. I didn't get that one right; what I came up with sounded more like it belonged on a Pink Floyd record and I ditched it after the first chorus. I'll keep trying.

We didn't call any of the tunes that use the synth patch I talked about above; I should get to those next Friday at the next club gig.

For me there is a wierd phenomenon. When I put several effects after another, and try to set the volume on the same level (on bypass level), sometimes I have to set the output to very low level, let's say to 3, or 2. That's kind of wierd, when your scale is from 1-100.
Also, for example at distortions, most of the time I have to turn down the output, to maintian unity gain, and the output level changes almost nothing between let's say 60-20 and then dramatically changes, under 20. (they are not exact numbers, I don't have the pedal with me). So somehow it looks like, that the small steps in volume from1-100 are not linear. Have you had the same experience?
