Russell Wilson has an ego, yes. He also did something in Seattle no other player ever did before. In today's NFL, you'll need to handle stars differently than you did 10 or 20 years ago. I don't like how Wilson handled himself, but he had a leg to stand on.
Is Russell Wilson played out and over the hill? Some think so, especially Seattle fans who have to convince themselves it was the right decision to hang on to a 70 something head coach who likes defense and the running game over their Hall of Fame QB.
Yeah, it's cool and all to have Bobby Wagner back and that Love guy in the secondary looks like a great signing. But they aren't trending toward a return to the Super Bowl with Geno Smith and Kenneth Walker. Geno Smith is a great story and players may love him, but we see what that's getting them.
My guess is Carroll leaves the NFL before Wilson does.

Russ is another of the great “running QBs” who make/made their living on the dramatic broken play. Lamar is probably the best of these the league has ever seen, but I don’t like teams built around this concept. It drives me crazy to see these players all but sacked and then magically scramble away and make a huge gain. It’s just bad football that appears to be brilliant football when it works. The QB is just too valuable to be acting like a RB, and I feel like a team’s whole season is on the line every time one of them takes off. How many concussions did Steve Young have? And once they are too old or banged up to run, what does the team do then? I think Russ is on the cusp of the end of his career, and Lamar and Allen are just one bad hit away from the end of their season… or career.

I will say Russ is a magician in the pocket, avoiding sacks, but he holds the ball so long he puts himself in that situation. I could be wrong but he did seem to popularize the read option. I remember in a preseason game he fakes the hand off get everybody going one way then he rolls out the opposite direction and had a good 30 yards between him and the nearest defender. It was the first time I saw a read option, and apparently most of the other guys too.

As said above, a great point, is the “broken play QB”. It’s just not something you can count on. It does seem like Lamar has lost a step and there goes an entire dimension of his play. And remember what happened to Trey Lance? Coaches basically put their hands up in the air and said “well this is what they do in Buffalo”. You can’t argue with having an extra man to block but it’s risky.

In 24 career starts, Pickett has thrown two touchdowns in a game once. In 11 career starts, Rudolph has done it six times.

Tomlin tapped Rudolph to start in his presser yesterday. He's being coy though, saying Kenny could win back the start in practice this week, but I'm sure that is just to keep the Seahawks scheming for either QB.

Agreed. It's kind of funny watching Tomlin act this one out. It's not like Carroll has to prep for Blaine Gabbert or Patrick Mahomes here.
It's either Pickett, who sucks, or Rudolph, who sucks less often.
Swallow your pride Tomlin and sit Pickett the rest of the season. You've already screwed this team, to include guys like TJ, Pat, and Cam, enough to miss out on one of the real NFL QB's coming out in the next draft with your stupid 'I've never been good and I've never been really bad' record. Instead, youn'z got jobbed picking a third round backup QB in the first round, then shoved him into the starting role mid season. He showed you what he was in college and in 24 NFL starts. There isn't some miraculous turnaround on the horizon where Pickett is going to turn into an NFL QB, so might as well pull the plug on this experiment before you push this team deeper into the pit of despair they're in now.
My guess is none of that happens. Instead Tomlin gets an extension while being praised for his leadership in a difficult season and they name one of his sock puppets the new official OC. Training camp starts with a steady flow of baloney about Pickett and the new OC working together closely and how it'll be a breakout year coming for Pickett. Who knows, maybe he'll throw for two TD's in one game again.
For the record, I never saw in my future as a Steeler fan a time where I would be begging for Rudolph to start.

It could be worse. You could have been a life-long Browns fan. They were really good when I was a small boy. Then they were pretty good in the 1980s, although that ended up getting them moved to Baltimore. I will always and forever want nothing but failure for the Ravens. Which, of course, is the opposite of what is happening. It's the fate of a Browns fan. They are like the Cubs of the NFL, only with no goat and a lot less charm.

As you can imagine, Denver is abuzz about Wilson being benched. It's not a big surprise to most, and there are likely two primary reasons:

1) Wilson has played better than last year, but he's still not seeing the field or working through his reads. If his #1 read is covered, he bails and starts running around. That makes Sean Payton nuts, and it's letting the team down.

2) Wilson has an injury guarantee of $37 million for 2025 that would kick-in if he were to suffer any sort of injury in the two weeks remaining that would prevent him from passing a physical in March. That $37 million would be guaranteed if Wilson is still on the roster at the start of the 2024 league year March 17. The Broncos are already on the hook for $39 million in guarantees for the 2024 season and they clearly didn't want to add to that total.

So aside from the fact that Wilson appears to have lost his ability to read the field and use his entire receiving group, the team simply can't afford to take a chance on his getting hurt. He has set a record for the number of Denver QB sacks this year. The cap hit is $85 million if they cut him, but they get to split that over the 2024 season ($35.4 million) and 2025 season ($49.6 million) if they do it after June 1.

Next question: who do they get that's better? Watch Jarett Stidham to see how he does. Payton inherited Wilson, but he went after Stidham as a backup.

No doubt the deep pockets of Walmart played into this decision to eat all that salary. However, this now means that mac'n'cheese you've been buying at Walmart for 88 cents is going to jump to $2.88.

Also, the data shows that Jackson has been really good from the pocket. He just has to deliver in the playoffs. I think his playoff struggles are partly a result of not having enough playmakers--either the Ravens haven't gotten them, or they've been hurt.

What's interesting to me is that Lamar, along with Tua, are the two QBs everyone was sure were going to get hurt this season. Now granted, the season still isn't over, but both are unscathed. Meanwhile, scads of starting QBs are out for the season, some of them pretty pocket-oriented.

He's one horrendous play call from Carroll and Darrell Bevell away from having two rings. Not that that always gets you in, but I think he's had a better career than Eli.
