Chargers defense looked good last night. They bottled up the run until the 4th quarter, and were hitting hard and fast all night. On offense, the kid Vidal made a number of really tough runs. The first half was a really enjoyable throwback defensive battle for me. Gotta love scores like 5-3.

Rodgers isn’t done, IMO, but his attitude is crap and he’s not as consistent as he used to be. And he’s been such a prima Donna the last few years that it’s hard to pull for him.

Rogers showed some promise early in the year, just like Russell did last year. Last night was pretty bad. They may still pull off the winning season, but that's about it.
Yeah last night was bad (to keep my language clean)... I gave up at the half and went straight to bed. It definitely feels like either the offense does good but the defense doesn't show up OR vise versa. VERY frustrating when you're a Steelers fan this season.

How bout them Seahawks!

Impressive, for sure. They had a bit of a lapse there but otherwise the D looked pretty dialed in. The run could use some work. Weak opponent though.
Speaking of weak opponents, I know the niners are depleted, but the Rams took "impressive" to a whole other level. I'm a Hawks fan, but am wondering if next week is when it all comes crashing down.

Five straight prime time losses for Tomlin.
I know a few of y'all think otherwise, but Aaron Rodgers is done. His attitude has been crap for a few weeks now and his physical talent has dropped off.

-Mike
Honestly, Aaron Rodgers’ attitude has been crap since at least his last season in Green Bay. That was the year he didn’t have time to show up to any offseason workouts to jumpstart his chemistry with his inexperienced receivers, because he was too busy planning his Con Air costume for his grand entrance at training camp. In retrospect, that attitude is arguably the biggest reason he doesn’t have more Super Bowl rings. Maybe that’s not fair to him, as many moving pieces as there are to a winning team, but I do know this. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning obsessed over OTAs.

That sure was a strange game. I followed it on my phone while on a plane. Gotta love getting internet while in the air. The plane was over water and didn't have a signal for either of DeMarcus Lawrence's rumbles. It looked like a thorough spattering was in progress, then Darnold turned into a turnover machine. It looked like he was going to let the Cardinals back into the game, all by himself. It didn't help that the play calling got painfully predictable in the second half. The defense sure seems to have put it together. They stopped the Cardinals a couple times and held them out of the end zone when they could have folded and rightfully put the blame on the offense. That's good to see.

Spoken like a fan of Seattle teams. If you aren't always looking around, waiting for it to fall apart, you aren't a seasoned fan of any of the teams around here.

Yep.
They'll find some veteran who was good 10 years this coming off-season and do it all over again. Tomlin is laser focused not to have a losing season until he quits, so that's all that matters. Just need a guy to get 4-5 wins and the other 4-5 will come from playing teams worse than they are.
In the not too distant future, it'll be Patrick Mahomes or Jalen Hurts starting for Tomlin.

At this point, I'd give Will Howard a shot. Not that he'd win any more games with this shoddy offense, but just to see if he can be an NFL QB.

110% agree on that.
The Steelers haven't had a real offensive coordinator in years. Tomlin cycles through average guys who are just happy to have a job so they keep their mouth shut and do whatever he tells them. Same deal with the DC.
When you walk back through the all pro players on this roster on both sides of the ball the last 15 years, it's even more amazing they haven't won a playoff game in eight years. Even at that, the last time they won a playoff game, they didn't even score a TD. It was all Boswell, six FG's.

Or Mason Rudolph. The guy has been in the league for a while, and two years ago when he had to come in due to a QB injury, he won three games in a row and put the Steelers in the playoffs. Just saying.

Mason is a good guy and has done whatever has been asked of him as a backup with no drama or complaints. I think we know what his ceiling is. If the Steelers are going to draft a potential franchise QB next year, I'd like to know if Howard might be better than anyone they could get. If the division or a wildcard becomes out of reach, it makes no sense to trot out Rogers any more.

When all is said and done, it doesn't seem to matter who is playing QB when the coaching staff is incapable of putting them in a position to succeed.

Aww man, I forgot all about Mason. He is a good dude even though the Steelers kicked him to the curb once before. Hopefully Will Howard is learning more from Mason than Aaron about playing QB in the NFL.

Because I’m disabled, and forced to spend a really depressing amount of time sitting in my recliner, I’ve been looking at the schedules for each of the likely playoff teams, and some interesting things jumped out at me.

I actually started by trying to figure out if the Bears have a serious shot at the last Wild Card spot, and it still looks like a crapshoot. Philly, Detroit, and both Green Bay games looks like 3-4 losses. Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and San Francisco could be 4 wins, but more likely 2-3. It’s entirely possible their week 17 game in San Francisco will be a tiebreaker.

Obviously nobody even knows who’s going to be playing QB for the Niners for the rest of the season, or who else may end up playing (or out) by the end of the season. Even without all their stars, though, the defense is still ridiculous with Robert Saleh back in charge. They could beat 2 or 3 teams they have no business beating, and sneak into the playoffs.

In theory, Green Bay could finish behind both Chicago and San Francisco, and if you only looked at the standings you might even believe that. I’m already happy to take Caleb Williams over Jordan Love in the last 2 minutes, but for now I’ll still take Love for the first 58. The Packers have a better team, not across the board, but in most areas. Short of some major catastrophe, their floor is the second Wild Card slot. Particularly with Detroit prone to occasionally self destructing, their ceiling is still winning the division.

Jumping up to the top of the NFC, Philly still has Detroit at home, plus the Chargers and Bills on the road. Plus they still have to go to Dallas. Given how up and down they’ve been so far, that seems like at least 1 loss. I’d be surprised if they get the top seed, and they could end up as low as third.

Then there’s the unlucky Bucs. Unlucky because of injuries to key players, and unlucky because they have to play every other Super Bowl contender in the conference. The good news is they’ve got the tiebreaker against the Seahawks. The bad news is they’ve lost the tiebreakers against Philly and Detroit. The worse news is they’re unlikely to reach the tiebreaker. With no divisional competition, they’re a lock for the playoffs, but almost certainly as the fourth seed. Fortunately for them, it’s hard for a good team to beat another good team twice in a year. Unfortunately for them, it’s even harder to win 2 road playoff games. Of all the division winners, they’re already the most likely to get bounced in the first round.

That leaves the NFC West. I have to admit to not watching either the Rams or Seahawks this year. However, I can’t help but notice that the Rams are in a perfect position to take the top seed. They play Tampa and Detroit, but both in LA, and then Seattle twice. Other than that the only team on their schedule who can beat them is themselves.

Unfortunately for the Rams, the Seahawks appear to have an easier schedule, barring a resurgence by the Niners at season’s end, Seattle only has the 2 Rams games and the Colts at home. If they win the division, seeding gets more interesting. They’ve already lost to the Bucs, but since Tampa is unlikely to force a tiebreaker, that’s really just trivia at this point.

I guess my one big question at this point is how good are the Seahawks? It’s hard not to believe the Rams are for real, given McVay’s track record of assembling contenders in just a year or 2, but is Sam Darnold really the guy in Seattle? I’m genuinely asking those of you who have been paying attention. If he is, it sure seems like the NFC Championship Game is likely to be played on the West Coast.

As a well trained Seattle fan, and especially a Mariners fan, I keep expecting the wheels to come off. My take on the Cardinals game was that the Seahawks in the first half of that game could beat anybody. The Seahawks defense in the second half could beat most teams. The offense in the second half? They make the Browns look like the '72 Dolphins.

Darnold was near perfect in the first half and hardly threw in the second half. The Seahawks ran the ball down the Cardinals' throats in the second half, so it's not really a fair game to judge Darnold on. I'm not completely sold on him yet, but getting a whole lot closer than I was. If he goes down, then I don't see Lock or Milroe winning many games.

The games against the Rams are going to be the only ones that really matter as things seem to be right now. The Colts have to come to Seattle, which means the Seahawks will have a deafening crowd behind them for that one. I could see the Rams and Seahawks splitting their games. If they both win out otherwise, then that gives the west to the Seahawks. I won't even begin to speculate about how likely that is or isn't. Darnold still has the occasional really bad day in his repertoire.

There have been so many stories like Rudolph that I don't get.
Rudolph played well in the games he started. Then the starter comes back and he doesn't get another chance.
Tebow took a struggling Bronco team to a division championship a and a playoff win. Then is gone.
Foles took the Eagles to their first Super Bowl win and the next year he's not on the team.
I don't get it.
