In other news, the Packers extended Brett Favres decision deadline until JULY! JULY? Come on man. So much for making his decision in the "next couple of weeks" like he mentioned a few weeks ago. This is plain ridiculous. He only wants to play if the Packers are going to be good. Dork!

Funny how pro players make decisions about leaving their team for another...for more money, and nothing wrong with that. But someone is trying to wrestle with giving up the game he loves, and suddenly he's a dork.

You honestly don't find his actions amazingly selfish? He is acting as if the team should be at his beck and call and not as if he is slated to be part of the team.

If I was the owner I'd tell him to go screw around with the other 31 teams and see what they thought about it. Favre is on the way out and he should be proactive in leaving his team in a functioning condition, not basing his decision to stay on whether or not they get good players from the draft.

Worst come worst he can always find a home in the Raider's organization; where all past stars go to die.

No, I would not let others make that choice for me. I also would not make my employer wait for over six months for me to decide. It is not THAT difficult of a decision to make people. This is turning into a circus now. Brett had a golf tournament a couple weeks ago, and he called a press conference. All the press shows up, and then he tells them he doesn't know why they wasted their time showing up. That's ridiculous.

This has gone from a gritty, tough, once-the-best QB deciding if he has enough left gas to play, to a football player telling his team that if you aren't good, I won't play for you. How can you honestly tell me that isn't selfish?

I feel bad I wasn't around to post earlier about Favre. My quick .02. One of my favorite athletes of all time, he's the franchise quarterback I grew up on (I'll be 20 tomorrow) and I hate to see him going out like this. It's horrible to think that the guy I looked at as the quintessential love-of-the-game veteran has abused his power to delay a decision that impacts the team so greatly. You'd think if he loved Green Bay so much he'd hurry things up a bit. We understand it's a hard decision for him to make, but someone told me about an interview he was giving in Alabama making a sarcastic remark saying "what are they going to do, cut me?". Come on now. Criag Nall, quarterback of the future I say . Can't wait for the draft.

Personally, I think everyone is just overreacting to the media hype around the Favre retirement issue...

His indecision hasn't affected the organization's free agency and draft plans... Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy are building for the future and they've made no bones about saying just that. McCarthy's also said that as long as Favre has made his decision by the first mini-camp, it's fine. The reason they probably have moved the bonus date back is so that don't have the media waited with bated breath for his decision at some abitrary time...

I truly thought that Favre's comments last Friday (the 7th) were thoughtful when he was given the opportunity to respond to what the rumor mill had been chewing around... in particular:

“I know I can still play. My confidence has been shot a little bit, there’s no doubt. I had a lot of chances to pull us out of the fire last year and I didn’t do it. My confidence is in question a little bit. Some will understand that. Some won’t. But it’s the truth. I can’t tell you what people are going to say. They can believe what they want. But the people that know me also know that I’m a team player. I have to make a total commitment. It’s not just what (the Packers) are going to do. It’s what I honestly can give to the team. I’ve never (half-assed) anything my entire life. I’m not going to start now. When I put on the uniform I can’t help but be a competitor. It’s in my blood.”

And:

“It means something to come back and be there, but to come back and be that dominant player, which I wasn’t last year. I never blamed it on other guys before and I won’t do it now. I don’t want it to be like, at one time he was good. He should’ve retired. He stuck around one year too long. That wouldn’t be fair to anyone.”

Frankly, I just don't see why anyone is making such a huge issue about it (except that it's the nervous, news-barren moment before the draft). Whether he comes back or not, he'll be one of the greatest football players certainly of his time, and possibly ever. In the meantime, it's not stressing the organization not to know, just those of us crazy enough to think about football all year long If he doesn't come back, I'm excited to see what Aaron Rodgers can do... plus, Thompson hasn't ruled out drafting Vince Young if he falls to 5.

I'm much more interested to see how the draft boards shape up between now and the 29th. Especially since this could be a very talented draft class... did anybody read Syken's SI article advising that some team (esp. the Colts) should go all in to get Bush, like the Saints and Ricky Williams? I don't know if I agree with that, but I thought it was a pretty amusing notion...

Oh yes!!! I'm gonna love it when the brawl happens on field . Bledsoe and TO get into a fist fight while Vanderjagt says something about both of them and they roll over him and Coach comes running out with a flyswatter. All the while Champ Bailey intercepts the ball and runs for a touch down sealing the game for Denver 40-0!

And that would certainly be the organizations decision to make. And they are letting him decide what he wants to do, because his decision hasn't changed their plans one iota.

If a top caliber QB is available at no. 5 they might draft one of the big three QB's, regardless what Favre decides.

I'm not so sure you're right on that. I've watched plenty of all-pro caliber athletes decide to retire without all the fanfare that Favre is stirring up.

Look at Bettis in Pittsburgh. He knew it was time, and he left. He hasn't been sitting around all off-season deciding what to do. Last season was the same way when everyone wanted to know if he would retire. A couple weeks after the New England loss, he came out ansd announced he would play one more year. Even though Bettis did not enjoy the same level of success as Favre career-wise, Bettis meant as much to the people of Pittsburgh as Favre has meant to GB.

Right here in Seattle with Steve Largent. At the time he retired, he was the top WR of all time. He called a press conference, and retired. End of story.

Me? I have had to make a choice like that. I was injured in spring drills. I knew I could no longer play at the level I was accustomed. So along with my parents, my doctor and I met with my coaches and I tearfully told them I would be unable to play. So no, I would not selfishly sit back and ask a sports team to wait around on me while I decide 1) if I am healthy enough to play, and 2) if the team will be good enough for me.

First off, you have no clue as to my moral/ethical compass. How do you know I would do the same? You don't.

Second, I don't have the problem pulling the trigger on a major life changing decision. I have done it before and I can do it again. Plus, Favre has bucks to live on for a long time and if he invested his $ during the good years he will be fine in retirement. I made my major decisions with no cash to fall back on if things went wrong. Boo hoo for Favre. It is such a tough decision. Give me a break.

Lastly, don't call me a hypocrite without corraborating evidence.

HUGE Cowboys fan here. I am a tad scared about Parcells taking a hating to Vanderjagt, which is highly likely given his proclivity to despise kickers.

Dropping Keyshawn for TO? Eh, TO will make a good Cowboy, I guess. If he gets busted in the offseason for something, he will fit in perfectly.

I hope that was just your own analysis...because I couldn't imagine the Packers even considering drafting Leinart, Young, or Cutler when they have a perfectly able Aaron Rodgers on deck. If anything, I would trade down in the draft to stock more picks because that team needs some serious help.
