I like the mention of throwing the ball quickly to allow the receiver to have more time with the football. Look to Byron "Fastball Kid" Leftwich to see how well that worked out. :D Every Jaguars game had several balls dropped because he tried to force the play to move quicker.

I think Leinart will be run of the mill without good blocking (which is almost assured given the teams who will select him), Cutler has Roethlisberger's size with a cannon to match, and I feel Young will be successful, though he might need a year to adjust to taking snaps under center and learn to wait until passing is foolish or impossible before he runs. He is not as bad as Vick in this respect, but he'll need to focus on the throw and leave the run as a last resort.

Ricky Manning signs a multi-million dollar offer sheet with the Bears, and then goes and gets arrested for beating up some dude outside a Denny's.......hopefully the Bears included a "don't act stupid" clause that will let them revoke the offer. :D

Nice pickup by the Bears. Real class guy. :p

I heard on the radio last night the guy Manning and company beat up was sitting at Denny's eating a late meal working on his laptop. They made fun of him for working on his laptop, and when he complained to the management that they wouldn't leave him alone, they kicked his ass until he was unconscious.

Looked how well it worked out for a guy named Brett Favre, who is well known for his "fastball" breaking reciever's fingers.

He had to be taught how to put "touch" on the ball at times.

One of the most common remarks by DB's about Favre's fastball is that they don't have time to react because by the time they realize he passed it, it's already caught.

[NOTE: I already know what a lot of you are going to say, so let me interject...last year he was throwing to a lot of recievers who didn't know where in the hell they were supposed to be on any given pass play. That, plus he had "Let-the-DB-take-it-from-me" Ferguson and Favre also threw a lot up for grabs to try and make something happen...hell anything, someone on his team has to frickin' catch it once in awhile too. Last year was an aberration.]

But in his prime, no one was better at throwing it on a rope into tight coverage like Favre...and I think that's what Simms was referring to about Cutler.

Don't forget about Elway. Some of his WR's often said they had bruises on their chests and arms from catching some of his zingers.

Hurry and post yours Jive, if the bet is on.

Houston, you're on the clock ....

1. Houston - Reggie Bush (RB). All that posturing right now is just that, posturing. Houston will take Bush, they decided that week 17 when they pulled their starters against the 49ers. Houston will look to add depth to their offensive line in rounds 2 and/or 3. Kubiak will do good things with this team. With Domanick Davis and Reggie Bush as a one-two punch, plus the emerging Andre Johnson with Eric Moulds, Houston shouldn't be half bad.

2. New Orleans Saints - Mario Williams (DE). Sean Payton is an offensive-minded coach, but Williams is too good to pass up. The Saints really could go with Ferguson to protect their Brees investment, but the rule book says that you take an intense defensive end before an offensive tackle.

3. Tennessee Titans - Matt Leinart (QB). Leinart is back with Norm Chow. Tennessee isn't sold on Volek, so they've got a solid backup with Volek, and a starter in Leinart, whom they'll start right away. Now they need Chris Brown to stay healthy, but the Titans have done well this off-season.

4. NY Jets - D'Brickashaw Ferguson (OT). Hmmm, how many QBs have the Jets lost now? With obvious offensive line problems, the Jets are stoked to see Ferguson drop. Although, the Jets could make a move for the Saints' #2.

5. Green Bay Packers - AJ Hawk (LB). No big surprise here. The Packers do the right thing and take the stud linebacker. No need for QB, although Winston Justice would be a nice addition to the offensive line, but he'd be too high a pick here. So, rather than trade down unnecessarily, they'll take Hawk.

6. San Francisco 49ers - Vernon Davis (TE). I don't necessarily think that this is the right move. I think that you take Michael Huff, but CBs are also so up in the air at this spot. The 9ers are obsessed with thinking they did the right thing with Alex Smith, so they want to get some help for him. Eric Johnson would be a stud, but he can't stay healthy. So, they go for the glam pick, and look to further rounds for defense.

7. Oakland Raiders - Vince Young (QB). The coin flip doesn't hurt the Raiders nor 49ers, they both get the player they want. The Raiders take Young, even though they've already got Young on the roster, and his name is Aaron Brooks. Two similar styles, but let us hope that Young plays more like that Rose Bowl game then Brooks.

8. Buffalo Bills - Brodrick Bunkley (DT). This is the hardest pick to predict for me. I know that Buffalo needs help at DT, so this would be my guess. Although, they really could take Jay Cutler, given Losman sucks, but as Buffalo paid 2 #1s for Losman, they might quit on him just yet.

9. Detroit Lions - Chad Jackson (WR). Just kidding. They'll go for Michael Huff (CB) here. Wouldn't it be freakin' hilarious if they did pick Jackson though? That would very seriously be awesome. Defense is a huge need for Detroit, and Huff fills their needs quite well. If Vince Young goes earlier, then Huff will go to the Raiders, (they love first round corners), or separately, the 49ers should take Huff, but I don't think they will.

10. Arizona Cardinals - Winston Justice (OT). A real solid pick. Arizona will flirt with Haloti Ngata (DT) and Jay Cutler (QB), but ultimately get a fantastic pick, and player that might be better than Ferguson, in Justice. This will help produce a real strong offense. Arizona realizes that they're in a weak division, and Justice can make this team better quickly. I would have to think that Justice and Edgerrin James can produce 3 more wins next season on their own, with Boldin and Fitzgerald in the mix, Dennis Green could return this team to the playoffs.

11. St. Louis Rams - Haloti Ngata (DT). This was Cleveland's pick, but the Rams nab him. Hard to know where the Rams go. Could they take Cutler, as Bulger has had some health concerns?

12. Cleveland Browns - Kamerion Wimbley (DE/OLB). With Crennel's 3-4 defense, Wimbley would be a nice addition. The Browns have McGinest, but they realize he's on loan. What better way to have Wimbley grow and mold into a solid starter?

13. Baltimore Ravens - Jay Cutler (QB). The Ravens are very happy to see Cutler drop this low. With Heap and Mason to throw to, Cutler will be happy, but he still would need a stronger defense. The Ravens are a possibility for a trade for a player like Jason Allen (S), a real position of need, and Huff (CB/S) won't be on the board at 13, that's for sure. Plus, Brian Billick is trying to get back his image as a QB-guru.

14. Philadelphia Eagles - Chad Jackson (WR). Isn't Chad Jackson a very Philadelphia-Eagles-ish name? I don't know why. Anyway, Philly would like Winston Justice, but he won't last, and CB is a possibility, but I think they stick with the receiver, which last year proved they need badly.

15. Denver Broncos - Santonio Holmes (WR). Two wide receivers go in a row, but it will pretty much stop here. Denver could trade up to grab a better player, but probably not. Denver needs a WR bad, and they're pissed not to get Jackson, but that has more to do with the Justice domino effect than anything else.

16. Miami Dolphins - Chad Greenway (OLB). Seriously, watch out for Miami. New England's most consistent threat in the next 5 years will not be the Jets nor Bills, but Miami.

17. Minnesota Vikings - Jimmy Williams (CB). More work for Minnesota's defense.

Ha ha ha... yeah, probably. Still, that's a lot of dough to pay a nickelback. For your sake, hopefully it doesn't bite the Bears in the ass when they try to get money to their starters. It's possible the Bears did it because they don't like any of the top corners in the draft.

That said, I do think the organization handled that Olin Kreutz and whoever-the-hell locker room brawl well last year... I guess it stuck out in my mind because of the whole Terrell Owens thing was blowing up at the same time. At least, the Bears didn't let it get out of hand. But what do you do with a guy that likes to beat up on Denny's customers? For Chrissake's, isn't bad enough to be eating at Denny's without throwing physical injury on top of that?

All right, I'm going to stop complimenting the Bears now, sheesh :rolleyes:...

I don't understand the Manning thing, but they seemed to have handled the Tank Johnson issue pretty well. I don't get it with these guys, though.

I'd rather have had the draft pick. I really wanted the Bears to draft Devin Hester, and without a 3rd rounder it doesn't appear likely. Manning is mainly to replace Azumah, and as a nickle back Zoom would have probably made similar money. The first year money is big, so that Carolina couldn't match. The rest of the contract is very incentive laden, and it actually has de-escalators in it. Over the next few seasons, it won't have that big of an impact on the cap space. Fiscally, it's a decent move, but I didn't want Manning, and not at the cost of a 3rd round pick.

I like the Browns pick...although I would love it if Ngata fell to them.

I'm still wondering why lots of people have the Saints picking Williams when they have already have 2 great DEs in Charles Grant and Will Smith...I really think they ought to trade that pick like you said, and I bet the Jets are thinking about it. I hear they're high on Leinart. I have the Saints taking Brick.

Buffalo needs a big guy inside ala Pat Williams...if they go defense, than Ngata is their pick. I think that Ngata and Bunkley should switch places in your mock, just because Bunkley fits the Rams more as Ngata does the Bills. But don't entirely rule out Winston Justice for the Bills, that O line of theirs needs help too.

[EDIT] I take all that about Buffalo back...i guess they now have a different D scheme that I thought so Bunkley would definitely fit better there...my bad.

Philly won't take a reciever round 1 when Chad Greenway or even Ernie Sims are still up for grabs.

I was not aware of that. It might work for Elway and Farve, but it is a disaster for Leftwich. When a wide-open receiver is dropping passes because the QB is throwing to hard there is a problem in the offense.

You know, one of things that I like about Chicago is the generally high quality of diner food... most mom-and-pop diners, certainly not all, you walk into in town have above average diner fare, especially the breakfast menus... we're dealing with a high quality of pancakes, ham-on-the-bone, and skirt steak here, it's serious...

I guess, the Bears feel that this year or the next are their years, spend it upfront as opposed to in the draft... yeah, that's a tough break about Azumah, he was a good spot defender... oh well :D
