NFL Off Season

The cornerbacks are celebrating as we speak! :hyper:

Yeah, DB's just love facing Favre...just ask them. They really do in that it's a challenge, but not because it's easy.

Anyone who actually watched and studied the Pack's games last year knows that Favre wasn't to blame for all those picks.

He's always thrown a few of those "I'm going to throw it up there and pray one of our guys gets it" passes, but if you really watched the Pack's games (and I've taped them and replayed them because I like to study the game), more than half of his interceptions were a direct result of an inexperienced reciever being out of position (running the wrong route), Ferguson practically letting the DB take it (there's 4 INT's right there), or receivers not positioning themselves so if they can't make the catch, no one does (which is receiver training camp 101).

It's always easy to pin it on the QB...but anyone with a brain knows that even the best QB's will have problems if they are surrounded by sixth string RB's and pedestrian recievers...and only half of a decent O-line.

Interesting that he still managed to throw for over 3800 yards and 20 TD's too and the Pack lost 8 of their 12 by a touchdown or less (all with a sub-standard supporting cast). Think he doesn't make a difference? Oh yeah, DB's just love facing Favre, but only for the challenge.

This year will be interesting to be sure.

Settle down, warrior! :D I agree to some extent, but more than a few of those picks were his fault. Living in Atlanta, I totally understand the subpar receiver situation, but it doesn't blind us to Vick's questionable decisions. Favre throwing the ball up for grabs, and a d lineman gets it? Or him throwing the ball well past the line of scrimmage more than twice? You have to blame the receivers true, but ol' Brett's gonna have to take way more than "a little" blame. Alot of times, you can see that he's frustrated, so he tries to make things happen. Champions do that. Alot of times last year, it worked out for the DB's. Knowing that the receivers suck, and Favre throwing it up for grabs, as a DB, I'd circle that game!

Settle down? Yeah, like that's going to happen when discussing the Pack! :D

I agree Favre does do some bonehead things. Had the Packers not had the injuries they had, Walker would have still been playing, Ahman Green would have still been playing, Franks would have still been playing. Favre could have easily thrown more TD's and cut his INT's in half. And the Pack would have won way more than 4 games.

Question: Any of the star receivers coming back, and did they lose of of them to free agency? With a QB like Favre, timing is everything, and those 6th stringers just don't have that yet.

I'm out of tissues for you, sir. Let me play my little violin instead. :D

Driver will be there, Franks should be back... they resigned Rod Gardner who they picked up at the end of the season (hopefully, he can push for playing time at #3). Jive likes to poke fun at the fact we picked up Boerigter from the Chiefs... Boerigter has been injured a lot, but he's a big guy. Ferguson is the other WR (a #3 at best) and he's always been an underachiever...

The main talk is possibly trading Javon Walker who has the most talent of the bunch but doesn't want to play in GB. Thompson looks to be holding out for a good value on Walker, but if he doesn't get it, I guess they'll just expect him to play despite his claim that he'll retire instead...

The only other thing at WR is that they let Terrence Murphy go, he was a draft pick plast year but apparently he has some spine condition and won't be able to play, too bad... sucks to end one's career so early...

It's a timing thing with the West Coast offense. I saw a lot of plays last year where Favre was chewing out recievers for running wrong routes.

In that offense, the QB throws to a spot...not to a reciever, and if the reciever isn't where he's supposed to be...INT or incompletion.

Nope, the only "star" reciever they have is Walker, and apparently he doesn't want to come out and play. Driver is a good clutch reciever, but not a star.

If Favre and the recievers they have can gel during camp, it's possible to get something going with them. Last year there were just too many injuries...and no matter how you slice it, you can't have new recievers every week and expect anything good to come from it.

Play on with the violins guys...I love music.

The West Coast offense can be deadly, provided you've got the right personnel. Just look at Seattle, for example - their passing game was very impressive last year, but without a big name receiver. Instead they had smart, veteran players who could run precise routes and pick up yardage after the catch, as well as a quarterback who could put the ball in the right spots.

When you remove either the precision of the receivers (i.e. as in Green Bay) or the understanding of where to place the ball (i.e. Michael Vick - sorry, Atlanta fans :smug: ), you're going get into some trouble.

All that said, it'd be nice to see Favre try to cut down on some of those bonehead plays. I know he's trying to make something happen, but last time I checked, chucking the ball into the end zone when you're 5 yards past the line of scrimmage is not going to help...ever.

My favorite teardrops to see are in green and yellow. ;)

Truth is when was the last time the Packers had a "star" receiver before Walker? Sterling Sharpe. Now I know that a younger Favre and healthy Sharpe would have made a great Cheesehead porno flick, but the truth is that Favre made mediocre to average receivers into productive players. Brooks, Freeman, Schroeder, Glenn, and Driver are/were average receivers. None of them were stars, and all flopped when they played on other teams. Ferguson was on the team for 3-4 seasons and had plenty of snaps with the first team. Driver was healthy for the season. And the loss was Walker for the season and Franks for a few games. The O-line was pretty bad, and the running game was inconsistent, but the WCO with it's short drops and quick passes are designed to alleviate blitzes and the pass rush.

Unfortunately, the devil's spawn has lost the milliseconds off his throws that are the difference between a completion and interception. He's always been a gambler who relied on his fastball, but it's declining. Sure some of the INTs were receiver errors, but that excuse doesn't buy Joey Harrington any slack in Detroit.

Satan is either tired of bailing out his kid, or he's calling him back home for other duties. Either way, I'm looking forward to more of this:
