I remember a couple of years ago when the Bears just got pummelled with injuries. It wasn't an excuse...it was a very real reason why they couldn't compete that year.
And yes, I've been spoiled by the Packers run. No team in the NFL of recent years has had 13 straight winning seasons (including two Super Bowls).
But, alas, it's the nature of parity. It's set up to make it virtually impossible to maintain your winning ways indefinitely.
But, the reality of the situation last year was that the Pack got killed with injuries...to the point of fielding almost nothing in the way of offensive firepower. My point was, that despite the injuries, they were still competitive. It wasn't that I thought if they didn't have all those injuries they would have won those close games...just that they were still able to keep those games close anyway.
I'll leave those excuses to the Lions fans.
It was more than just the injuries that had the Packers drop from Division champ to the cellar... as a GM, Sherman made some bad decisions: bad picks in the draft and paid out to a lot to players who didn't deserve it. Without having such a close cap, we might not to have lost both starting guards in free agency...
I think the Packers can put together a 9-7 season this year (I'd be really suprised if they do any better) with the talent on the roster and if they pick up two good starters in the draft. After that, I think we'll dip back down in 2007 as a new QB comes in, then we'll see if Thompson's made the right decisions regarding free agency and the draft in 2008... that will be measuring stick...
One, but not the only, reason that I'm glad Favre is coming back is to give Rodgers another year to learn the system... sitting Carson Palmer for two years worked out well for the Bengals.

Especially if you consider that their defense improved dramatically from the year before that when they won the division.
The Pack is on the downslide...no question about it. Parity, salary cap and free agency does that. But no one can really deny that the main reason the Pack went from divisional champ to cellar in one year was because they got toasted by injuries to almost all their key players on offense. Would they have won the division without all those injuries? Hard to say, but I doubt they would have. But I also doubt they would have ended up in the cellar too.

Watching a Lions game is like watching Jerry Springer. Even though I'm feeling down, all I gotta do is watch and be thankful that I'm not as bad as THAT.

Ya..but you gotta give the Bores and Packers credit for at least occasionally winning a playoff game. The Viqueens, even though they win the division once in a while, are INCREDIBLE playoff chokers. They may as well reside in the basement with the Kitties.

Packers and Bears are perrenial North division winners (and the two that started it all...though it's difficult to imagine the Lions were there...somewhere...all along too).
The Vikings are the champion chokers (who could forget giving the division to GB by allowing that Cardinals team to come back)!
