NFL Off Season

With Hawk, Barnett, and Hodge at linebackers, they'll have an incredibly fast group that can pursue with the best of them. They'll have the two defensive lineman that led the NFL in tackles for lineman last year, Kampman and Ryan Pickett.
Woodson and Al Harris are both proven corners. Nick Collins did an excellent job at safety last year as a rookie, and newcomer Manual is pretty well regarded. Fast but grabby corner Ahmad Carrol moves to nickel back, which probably suits him better. With better depth on the D line, KGB can get back to being a sack machine and quit trying to stop the run at 250 lbs. I'm pretty darn excited for this year!

Man, you nailed my sentiments exactly! I'm really pumped about this upcoming season. I can't wait to tell everyone who thinks the Pack suck based solely on last year's performance..."I told you they were better than that!"

The Pack's defense was ranked 7th last year (which, I know is not an entirely accurate system for ranking). I too, think we have the makings of a killer defense. It might take a while to gel...but the beauty of Bates defense (which Sanders will still run) is that it's basic, so even new guys won't have to learn too much. With the kind of guys they drafted, all they have to do is go out and kill the ball carrier.

This year, it's gonna be fun to watch the Pack, no matter how their record ends up. But I think it will be good enough to win the North, because "They're a much better team than they showed last year". Mark my words!

And there is nothing wrong with having this kind of optimism for our home team. It's not like we're Detroit fans and still thinking we have something good.

Cleveland certainly looks like they had a good draft (time will tell...) but combine that with a lot high profile FA signings, they could really make the AFC North a tough top to bottom division... that and the AFC West... it'll be fun to watch.

Given all the FA acquisitions and the draft, I think the Pack is another really good D-lineman away from a top-shelf defense. Of course, we'll see how everything shakes out -- so much happens between now and the start of the season.

I'd love the NFC North to truly go back to being the Black and Blue division, good competition makes for better teams (except the Vikings, they can always suck as far as I'm concerned :D).

I think the Titans would start Billy Volek before they would throw Young to the Lions (okay, okay, they would probably let him start against the Lions, who wouldn't really, it's like Pop Warner over there :D). There's been some talk that if McNair ends up leaving (being cut or traded) that the Titans will make a run at Kerry Collins... ah, Kerry Collins... I mean the man does have one great season for every three played.

i love what the brownies did in the offseason...they filled every single weakness with a solid veteran and some good draft picks for depth.

however, their success entirely depends on 4 question marks:

the rehabilitation of braylon edwards
the rehabilitation of kellen winslow
the rehabilitation of carson palmer (who no doubt made the bengals contenders)

but most of all:

is charlie frye going to be the quarterback we all hope he is?

i think that is the only thing that doesn't make us legitimate contenders right now, we have not truly solidified the QB position. i hope frye proves me wrong.

Indeed, it would be bad news for Vince no matter who he has to play. Like wolfs mentioned, there is some talk about bringing in Kerry Collins if/when McNair leaves. I just hate to see a guy leave the only team he has played for so late in his career, especially in a situation like this. It makes me sad.

Could you please explain how Carson Palmers rehab is connected to the success of the Cleveland Browns. I think I know where you're going with this, but I'll let you hang yourself. :D

Considering how many games he's played all banged up, he literally sacrificed his body for his team. It's a shame it has to end like this. The guy deserves better.

Favre and McNair are pretty close friends (they live in the same area during the off-season and do a lot of mutual charity events).

Favre thought McNair got a bum deal from the Titans. I agree. You look at how Favre is treated in Green Bay, and McNair certainly did as much for the Titans as Favre did for the Pack (well, whatever was in his control anyway).

Geez, what does that say for the franchise to just dump him when McNair is the face of their franchise?

Yeah, yeah, spare me the "it's a business" speil. Ever since free agency took hold, there are so few players that really mean that much to a team anymore...McNair was one of the few who represented his team with dedication, loyalty, class and helped make them into winners.

What Tennessee is doing to McNair is disgraceful.

Even with the "it's a business" mentality, what they are doing to McNair is bad business. Who treats their employees like that, especially one that has gone above and beyond the call of duty? In an age where guys sit out seasons with broken fingers, and players ride the pine during playoffs so they don't get injured and miss their pig free agent payoff, McNair is a breath of fresh air for football. How does a company expect to hire and retain good employees when they pull business moves like the Titans?

Right on. In today's football, there are so many players out there that take so much time off for boo-boos (and that includes supposed tough guys like LB's and DE's), and then there are guys like Favre, McNair, McNabb, etc. that literally will themselves to play through monster pain (and they're QB's for cryin' out loud!).

You gotta love Karma. If the Titans release McNair and the Ravens pick him up...I'd like to see that matchup.

Typical. Bud Adams is a dirt bag of an owner, always has been. Even before he moved the team out of Houston. I despise that pathetic excuse of a man.

Like jive, I remember McNair going out there wrapped up in protective vests so tight he could barely throw. It didn't stop him, he kept playing no matter what. For that, Adams kicks him to the curb. :scowl:

I'm with you guys - McNair deserves better. He's a real warrior and the heart of the franchise. I'm sure most Titans fans are truly appalled by this situation.

I think Jive makes a good point - if this is how they treat Steve McNair, the face of the franchise, then why would anyone want to sign with the team?

On a side note, if he lands in Baltimore, the AFC North is going to be a ridiculously tough division. It's very competitive as it is, but throwing McNair into the mix takes things to a whole new level.

I would love to see McNair reunited with Mason. They could do some damage there with the rapport they already developed. Plus, I'd love to see what Mark Clayton could do with a real QB throwing to him.

AFC North could be a tough division indeed.

Deep down, Packers and Bears fans are like brothers in the NFC Central family (yeah, I know it's the North now :rollno: ).

My two sons (one year apart) love each other because they're family. They fight with each other a helluva lot worse than they ever would with anybody else. Were they not family, they wouldn't have that intense love/hate thing going on.

And so it is with the Packers and the Bears. HATED rivals? You bet! Beat the crap out of each other at a moment's notice? You bet! Kindred spirits of the NFL? Yup. But no one's hated each other longer either. What fun would it be without the other?

Ah, brotherly love. Too cool.

I think that's going a bit too far :rolleyes: :p I live in Chicago... I don't get any quarter for wearing my Packers shirt during the season around here... and I don't want one. I respect most fans, Bears fans included, who stick by their teams. And I've friends who are Bears fans, but that's not why they're my friends :D I have certainly enjoyed jawing with Jive and I'm sure we'd get along, but when it's down to football, well, it's all about what team you're on and playing competitively... gotta draw the line somewhere (mostly I'm just giving you a hard time Sundogue :D). That said, it's not cool to pick on anyone unfairly (unless it's the Vikings).
