NFL Week #13

Best post game quote from Steelers/Ravens comes from Terrell Suggs. When commenting on the fumble by Flacco that led to the Steelers game winning touchdown......

"It just didn't feel good when I saw that hair at the line." :D Hahahahahahhaha...

How 'bout dem Cowboys??? I am happy for Jason Garrett. I would have never picked the Cowboys to win. Like Rodney Harrison said tonight.....maybe Jones should have fired Phillips two months ago.

-Mike

I've said all along. The primadonna types Jerry Jones likes to hire as players need a strong leader. I agree with Rodney's statement too.;)

the cowboys are obviously a better team than their record indicates. phillips shoulda been gone after they went 0-4 to the jags.

i mean, -i- wish he was still there heh. but as far as the team goes they would have a winning record now, i think, if they got rid of him after the jags game.

Good squad that needs disciplined is all. Garrett's done a heckuva turnaround with 3-1 record. Especially with the one loss being by 3 points. :D

I laughed at that one too Mike. I also chuckled at Ben's nose looking like a check mark and him saying it wasn't broken.

Great game though.

:D

God Bless, Ray

How do you mean, and you talking about me? As you said, hands to the face and hitting a defenseless receiver is what I saw on those two plays.

-Mike

Nah man. Not you in particular. A lot of people I know defended Harrison to the bitter end for all of his hits, and then things like my facebook were filled with "How was that not a penalty/fine/ejection?"

And I agree completely. The hit on Heath was fully worthy of at least a flag, and maybe the $25-75k fine he's probably going to receive.

Change our stories??!! Nope. Just some consistency, that's all. Like I said, I don't think it was intentional when Ngata splattered Ben's nose. But it was a clear shot to a QB's head. Reverse the roles and imagine that it was Harrison busting Flacco's nose. And on the Miller hit, was the guy TRYING to give Miller a concussion. No, but the result was there. The ball was clearly past Miller (not caught) when the 2nd Raven came in and concussed him. (Defenseless receiver.) Again, imagine that it had been Harrison hitting Bolden or Houshmanzada.

I think those guys will probably both get fined. BUT... A 15 yard penalty and a first down on both of those plays would have helped the Steelers a great deal. The head of officials already said that there should have been a penalty on the hit on Miller. Again, just show a little consistency...

So when the league first starts enforcing the penalty; it was ruining football, but now that a Steeler was on the receiving end of one of those hits, the flag couldn't come soon enough. I guess the league is damned if they do and if they don't. And there are differences in the its. With Harrison's, he lead with his helmet on all but one of them; with McClain's, he hit him with shoulder and forearm, and Miller tripped just as the hit was happening. Maybe he could've pulled up, maybe not. And I'm not saying McClain didn't deserve a flag or fine, because he deserved both; I'm saying its odd that a lot of the Steeler faithful changed their mind about hits being "a part of the game" now that one of their players got decked.

Harrison is getting what Harrison deserves. You call someone out on their job (referees) and threaten to retire because it ain't football if you can't hurt someone, then you need to be be prepared for the league to scrutinize your every action. And for the record, I feel like every penalty and fine Harrison has received (excluding the one on Brees) was completely warranted. He's leading with the crown of his helmet, driving qb's into the dirt, and hitting late/high on defenseless players.

Blah blah balh, some Q.Q'ing
While I still don't exactly agree with the rules (and, more specifically, the facade that the NFL is putting on with them, and the misleading information they are spreading about it) they are now the rules. However, there is obviously a double standard here, and that is what is getting Steeler Nation riled up today. Had either of those hits been from a Steeler to say Manning or something, flags would've been flying, maybe even ejections and most certainly more additional income for the NFL. THAT is what we're mad at - if you're going to make and enforce a rule, you have to do so universally, not when it suits you best.

Well, if you're talking about me, I never said anything was ruining football. You're missing my point. I'd like to see some consistency in the calls. But yes, I do believe that there is a double-standard on penalty calls this year. A couple weeks ago there was a clear helmet-to-helmet hit on Mike Wallace. No penalty called. Regarding the hit on Miller, the ball had clearly not been caught and McClain hit him anyway. Making a football play? Sure. Intentionally trying to injure him? Probably not. Against the rules? Yes. Throw the damn flag. And yes, had it been Harrison delivering the hit, I believe the flag would have been thrown rather emphatically. Even you agree that it should have drawn a flag (as does the head of officials). That's all I'm saying. If it's a penalty when a Steeler does something, then is should also be a penalty when something is done against the Steelers.

We will all believe what we want to believe, and won't change each other's minds.

If the NFL wants to crack down and "protect" players, then so be it. I don't agree completely, but whatever.

I would not have thrown a flag on the Ben or Heath plays, but in Rogers NFL, they will. So now make sure it is called that way in every game on both sides of the ball.

As for Harrison, he has brought some of this angst on himself by taking his issues to the press. I think he plays the position exactly how any LB should, right on the edge.

So I am finding the NFL season even more enjoyable this year by worrying less if the Steelers win and instead changing my weekly allegiances based on what teams the Steelers need to win or lose. Like tonight I am firmly a Jets fan.

It is getting expensive buying all these hats and jerseys though. :)

Chicago @ Detroit: (My team) Potential Admiral Ackbar game. Bears don't fall into it and TCB FTW. +1

San Francisco @ Green Bay: SF doesn't have the horses. Packers take this one at home. (Although I disagree with Singletary being fired after this one. Nobody realistically expects them to win this game.) +1

Oakland @ San Diego: Chargers are playing as well as anyone in the AFC right now and win this one at home. -1

Atlanta @ Tampa Bay: The Falcons in a close game. +1

Dallas @ Indianapolis: We'll REALLY see the Jason Garrett effect here. I'll go out on a limb and take the 'Boys. +1

St Louis @ Arizona: Rams are believing in Bradford and will win this one. +1

14-2 for my frst time picking -- not bad! :smug:

Although it's a whole lot easier during this time of the season and if I'd been betting spreads, I would have gotten crushed. :atoz:
