NHL 2008

The Wings' power play was SICK last night - 5 for 6. Nick Lidstrom is ramping up his play beautifully, I wonder if he's getting a bit angry after the bogus all-star suspension and not being mentioned as a Norris front-runner. Shea Weber was a complete non-entity in last nights game, Nick had 2 goals and I believe an assist as well. Franzen was a beast in his comeback, though I'd have liked to see him step up more in the scrum, but I also don't blame him with it being his first game back from a hand injury. I'm REALLY hoping that Hudler will take a significant discount to stay with the team. If I'm the GM, Brad Stuart and Val Filppula are trade bait (though tbh I'd ditch Maltby and Draper first, but I don't think there's enough of a cap room and Draper has a NTC if I recall correctly).

There was an AWESOME interview with Datsyuk some of you may get a kick out of. Here's the link courtesy of Bruce MacLeod at the Macomb Daily: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

And... Hossa fought. Suter definitely went to the Claude Lemieux school of fighting. Wait until the other guy loses balance and falls down before throwing your first punch. And, in the battle for most annoying announcer imho, Terry Crisp is again pulling away from the pack.

uh, so i just caught this highlight from 2 nights ago...did you guys see this? UN-frickin-believable....i just don't see the reason for any goalie to put the pads on after this....just wow.

i am kidding about goalies not playing anymore, but how could you follow something like that?
god i love hockey

Link Removed. Sound Quality is crappy. More than a minutes worth of pressure resulting in a goal from D-man Braydon Coburn.

Great Game that I missed last night for some side work. I caught the final period, but was impressed with Mike Richards play that I saw. You could see him really taking the role as the on ice leader. He is really coming into his own as the captain of this team and it showed with his 5 points (2G,3A) as well as his 6th shorthanded goal of the season.

Also good to see some more production from the 4th line with a goal by Glen Metropolit assisted by Asham and Richards.

Looking forward to the Flyers v. Pens Game tomorrow.

Trade Deadline is approaching.

The final score was not indicative of the Flyers vs. Sabres on Thursday. Each time the Flyers went ahead, the Sabres tied it up (1-0; 2-1; 3-2). Then with about 6 minutes left, the Flyers went up 4-3. Then in the final minute and 45 seconds, the Flyers scored two empty netters to seal the deal. I was impressed by the fact that they never got down each time the Sabres tied it up. They kept working and it paid off. Big win for sure...

Pens win whilst not using the trap. A worthy victory for them. Looks like the coaching move is paying off. I wouldn't count them out quite yet.

Biron made a bone-headed move in the third to give it to the Pens.

Flyer's only breaks were off the Pen's broken sticks. The effort was there but not the finish.

Richards gets his 7th SH gaol on the year.

Good win by the Sabres over the Rangers last night, but I'm currently preparing some animal sacrifices to aid in the quick healing of Ryan Miller's ankle sprain. Pleaaaase pleaaaase let it only be a few games. Pleaaaaase. The doctors say its not bad at all, so pleaaaase heal fast. Miller is worth too much to this team to have him out an extended period of time.

Yeah, no joke. But seriously....come on now. You guys shouldn't be losing at home to teams that aren't even in the playoffs.

Good to see my guy Fedotenko continuing to play well since coming back from his broken hand, two more goals last night. Gonchar is back too, and making some plays. Maybe we have time to make a run. We'll see.

Yeah I wouldn't count the Pens out just yet. They may not get home ice advantage but they could eek their way into a playoff spot.

The Flyers found themselves in a similar position; around this time, last season. They were two spots out of PO position and had a stellar comeback win against the Sabres and that gave them the momentum to put together a streak of wins and hit 6th spot by the end of the regular season.

I saw stellar goal-tending and matched intensity from the Pens yesterday afternoon. I like that Bylsma got rid of the 1-2-2 trap tactics that Therien used in the last game against Philly.

I think the Flyers came out a with little complacent kind of an "oh yeah; we got these guys" mentality. The Pens are still a dangerous team with a potent offense. The Flyers hung around though and tied it up twice but Biron made a bad decision and cost them that game. That said, that was the only The only goal that I could fault Biron. Unfortunately it was a clutch situation.

Still; that was a very high paced and entertaining hockey game.

I wish I could have saw it. I spent yesterday in Houston. I don't think anyone around there even knows what the NHL is, but they do have the Aero's.

I only caught the recap on ESPN and a couple Pen's websites I visit. It looked like a good game all around, and it always feels good to knock off those crummy Flyers and their fans. :D :D

:hiding:

It's a great rivalry that the Pens seem to be taking over as of late. :hmm:

Crosby and Malkin always seem to step it up when they play the Flyers. There is definitely no love lost between Richards and Crosby.

The Wings put it to San Jose tonight 4-1 and the PK looked great. Stuart was a nice addition to have back at the blueline. The other thing I've noticed is Zetterberg has taken it up a notch since his contract signing. He was not playing as well as last season thru the halfway point, but the last few games he's really come on. Datsyk on the other hand has been a beast all season.

The Wings open next season with two games in Sweden. The tickets went on sale today and both games sold out in an hour.

The Wings looked great, and the D is stepping up well. Stuart's return is huge. Imho, Zetterberg's improvement has been due to being put back on a line with Datsyuk mid-season. Their synergy imho is the best in the league by far, both offensively and defensively.

Adios Ryan Whitney!

Not sure how I feel right about now on this one. Sure, he was stinking it up this year, but he had a major injury and missed most of the season beause of it. We got some young guys ready to step up, so I guess Ryan had to go. Sad, really. But it isn't like Ryan was one of the best d-men in the league. He was good at times though. Wow, I am really rambling now. :D

Is Kunitz this years version of Hossa? Not the same caliber of course, but a late season add-on to help Sid? I'm guessing the deal was really done to get Tangradi. We'll see.
