NHL 2013 regular season thread!

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...w-desjardins-match-penalty-rescinded/1895509/

"The way the linesman saw it on the ice, he was convinced it was a major penalty. Unfortunately, he was wrong," supervisor of officials Mick McGeough told a pool reporter, according to the AP. "It's been overruled, taken care of by the league and Brendan Shanahan and the safety committee, and there are no more issues right now."

Yeah, but the B's PK is killah.

Montreal sent their hockey team and a pretty good game broke out. They had us on our heels thru most of the 1st period.

Rask stood on his head at times - this game could have gone either way. Seguin got a goal and an assist. If he heats up, I think the B's will be OK.

I'll take two points in Montreal without Marchand in the lineup any day.

No goalie interference :hyper:

Looks like the Flyers shootout woes continue. They played a pretty good game, but Florida tied it at 2-2 in the 3rd. Flyers dominated the OT, but couldn't get one to go in. Get to the shootout and the first two Panthers beat Bryzgalov. Neither Matt Read not Giroux could score, so the Panthers won in only 2 rounds. :rollno:

To be fair, the first Panthers shooter deked Bryz out of his skates, it was a pretty sweet move. Second one was savable but it was still a nice shot. Read didn't even put a move on Theodore and Giroux put too many moves on. I've almost accepted that if it goes to a shootout our chances of winning go down to like 10% :rollno:

I was at the game. It looked like Read may have caught an edge right before he went to make his first move and it threw his timing off.

Flyers generally played well, though there were a few shifts during the game (the first shift, in particular) where they simply weren't putting in enough effort.

I think that the game was lost not in the shootout, but in the two third period power plays that the Flyers failed to convert.

Aside from the shootout, Bryzgalov looked very solid.

I agree with both of you (autodidact and Febs). The shootout comment is exactly how I feel. It's to a point where I pretty much expect them to come away with only one point if it goes to a shootout. And it doesn't really make sense, because they have some good shooters. Bryzgalov has been very good during regulation and OT, but the shootouts seem to get in his head. Last year, I used to think that Laviolette should bring in a cold Bob to work the shootout if it went that far. ;) But all in all, Bryzgalov has been playing real well this year. Just can't seem to get enough support.

Man, the Caps are pretty horrible this year D:

Dear God, we are. There are so many problems in DC right now, it's hard to see a way out of this in a span of less than a few years. I like Adam Oates a lot; I think he has a real chance to be successful in the league, but I don't think he realized how many problems the Caps have. It's almost time for the Caps to throw up the Rebuilding flag, which will really piss off the fan base, but at least provides some justification for major moves (firing a GM, trading away marquee talent, stripping a captaincy...). More than anything, leadership can't look at this as if they're one quick fix away from being competitive again; there will have to be some significant emotional events.

If the ship is broken, fine, let's fix it. Uncertainty is a fact of life, but there has to be a plan, and the Caps need one now more than ever.

First step is to fire GMGM before he can start his 4th "5 Year Plan" to rebuild the team. Then it might be time to blow up the team and try to rebuild around some of that talent that is coming up in the next few years.

Hahaha that is fantastic.

Although the best thing I took from that article was this!

And then we have derp face:

Seems Guy Boucher also has issues with the officiating this season and made faces to the officials about it and got penalized for it. Great new meme fodder as well as video included with the article.

I was out with some friends of mine watching that game, including a Devils fan, and even he agreed we got the short end of a spiky stick on a whole mess of calls.

Are there any Isle fans on the thread yet? I'm interested in the reaction on the other side. Here it is very positive especially since Rask has been so solid.

B's traded him for a conditional 2nd rounder (the condition is that Thomas actually show up and play! - not a sure thing)

This clears some cap space which will allow the B's to shore up the third line and provide some depth in general. Having a couple guys out for a couple games like Thornton, Paille, and Marchand, exposed the lack of depth.

Thomas's legacy will be the out-of-world goaltending in the Stanley Cup season, and the B's do not win without him, for that B's fans will be forever thankful. But the sweet will be tainted with a bit of sour in his refusal to play this year and his rather graceless absence from the White House visit - that doesn't overshadow the good, but it does tarnish his reputation. It is an old story in sport,(and music and plenty of other fields as well) great talent sometimes is wrapped in a grating personality (Manny Ramirez is one that comes pretty quickly to mind for Boston folks) or great talent will occasionally make some real head-scratching decisions.

I see, the Islanders have no intention of paying but it looks like they have spent to the minimum - very clever.

I gotta think if he actually wanted to make a few million, he could help more than a few teams out there.

I hear you - it is easy enough for me to live with the antics when he delivers a Cup, I didn't think how much harder it would be for fans of other teams.

He's leaving a lot of money on the table - I do give him credit for making his decisions and dealing with the consequences of those decisions. He must of taken care of the money he has made, plenty of guys have burned through more money with less to show for it who.
