NHL Playoffs!

In hockey so far I have Ultimate Gretzky, Slap Shot, Mystery Alaska, Miracle, and Hockey Mom (the star of which is quite, quite hot), along with a bunch of Hartford Whaler DVDs created by a Whaler fan on eBay. And I'm always browsing around for more.

You have Hollywood's Miracle...get the real "Miracle"; HBO shows it every so often & it's available pretty cheap(about $10). The downer is they didn't include the entire game as a bonus.

How about Rob Lowe & Patrick Swayze in Youngblood? C'mon...
I kinda recall another 'hockey' movie with Michael Keaton(as the player) & Maria Conchita Alonzo as his love interest.

I have a VHS tape of the "miracle" game recorded off ESPN about a year ago, though they fast-forwarded through some parts. But it was fun to watch again after a quarter century.

I recently saw a promotion for a DVD boxed set of the NY Mets' 1986 World Series. I think it was in a Borders newsletter. There's another must-get.

There are some movies that are marginally hockey related, and for me those have to stand up on their own merits. I think the Michael Keaton one might be one of those. I vaguely remember Youngblood, but I don't think anything about it looked interesting to me. Is it any good?

If you're in the mood for 'a comedy that wasn't intended to be a comedy'...Hell, I'm not even sure you can pick it up.
Basically, it's about Junior hockey; a team must select between Lowe(a Gretzky-type wunderkind) & some tough brawler-type. Lowe is picked, the other guy is cut...'sfunny, though, the tough guy seems to get more than his share of goals.

A friend of mine saw Youngblood in the theatre...he told me there was a scene where you see a close-up of somebody's nekkid rear end...some guy in the audience sez "Nice ass".
The camera keeps panning back until you see it's Rob Lowe's keister.

That’s the thing it doesn't. It was a good game but it was 26 years ago. I am more ashamed about being part of a country that can't let go. I don't see Russians or Americans bringing up that Russia beat Americans in basketball few years later no? Only time I hear about that game is Americans whining that it was a setup. You see what I mean? Like babies. remember the uncle in Napoleon Dynamite, yeah that what people and miracle remind me of.

At least it's not as bad as Canadians, oh boy they beat the Russians in the summit games by breaking a leg on purpose of the greatest player who ever lived (1972). Screw team Canada, they are nothing, what a freaking heroes... Oh no we can’t stop Kharlamov, ok let’s break his legs. Screw you Canadia, they have no right to be proud of those games, it was shame to all Hockey they way they played. It's a shame to call Bobby Clarke even a hockey player.

That game was earlier('72 vs. '80)...and, yes, we was robbed.
Still, your '72 BB team were professional European players vs. US students.

Going into the 1980 Olympics, almost everyone thought the gold medal in hockey was a "gimme" for one particular team. Almost everyone thought that. No "experts" pinned any hope on the team of mostly college hockey players--not even what might be called an all-star team of college players--to be anything but fodder for the favorites. Even ABC Sports, usually gamely pandering to any emotional angle they can find in Olympic events, didn't televise the game live.

How does an underdog, a vastly overmatched underdog, prevail? Not by accident. That's what the movie is about.

It was a good game, Americans played a good game, it was incredible, and it was interesting to watch. It was great i wont deny that... it was also 26 years ago, you guys ruined a good game by making 1204391248912904382190 movies about it.

Do You Believe in Miracles?
I've seen at least 5 HBO specials on it... probably similar amount on history channel. EVERY winter Olympics when it comes to hockey they show at least 30 minute special on miracle, every time US Olympic hockey team does anything they refer it to the miracle. Christ they were talking about “miracle” last Olympics when women hockey team was doing well.

Dude, I am not disagreeing that it wasn’t a good game, it was. I am just annoyed that 26 years it’s the only thing they talk about to this day. Whenever people find out that I play hockey usually first thing they refer to is the “miracle”. Don’t let them find out that I am Russian then it’s not just “oh yeah I remember the miracle” its “oh we kicked your ass in 1980, the miracle, did you watch that movie? It really is just sad.

Let's agree on this, it was a great game.

PS I swear I’ve heard people tell me that the game ended the Iranian hostage setuation. They actually think that the game was about ending Iran hostage situation. Like we challenged Russians to play a game for the hostages in Iran. I love it.

I am not totally against that movie or any thing about the miracle, but you guys have to admit it is a little bit over played with.

Btw, some side info, that game is what many people blame for Kharlamov's death.

I wasn’t talking about conspiracy theorist but more of ignorant people who hear crap like "i feel like those boys played for me" and turned it to "those boys played for me".

I think it was HBO special, it wasn’t bad but the other HBO specials i was talking about where not about miracle at all but miracle was worked into them so it almost seemed like that's they only thing that ever happened in the world. I think the special they did about how Russians cheated in basketball, a lot of it was somehow about 1980 hockey game.
