NHL Regular Season 2017-18

Props to the 'Yotes. Scored on their first two shots against Holtby. Unfortunately never again after that.

They actually played a decent game against the Caps, but the refs really didn't help at all. Every little ticky-tack phantom 'slashing' call sent another Coyote to the box, yet Wilson and Carlson got away with all kinds of cheap shots and stickwork all game long. Oh well, when you're at the bottom of the standings with a bunch of no-names I guess you can't expect any breaks from the zebras.

Look, I ain't crying'...the Yotes aren't going to compete anytime soon, so it's just another loss in what's going to be a long season. But geez, do you have to kick them when they're that far down?

This is what I like about the Flyers, they have this ability to torment their fans and make them believe they could actually be good.

Wow, the Pens surprised me tonight. They came out on fire and put away the Coyotes in the first three minutes of the game.
Murray gave up one goal. Any guesses how he gave up the goal? :smug:

As soon as that goal went in on Murray, I just knew what this morning's post was going to touch on. :thumbsup:

Kind of a quandary for me every time the Pens and Yotes play. Grew up in the Pittsburgh area and have always been a lifelong Penguins fan, but been living here in the desert since '84 and support the Coyotes as well. The first few years after the Yotes moved to town in '96 I managed to get tickets to see the Pens here, which would always make it hard to root against one or the other. Oddly enough, if memory serves me correctly, those first couple of years those games ended in ties, which meant I was probably the only person in the arena who went home satisfied with the result. I mean, really, who the hell wants a game to end in a tie? LOL

Nowadays, I pull for the team that needs the points the most. Usually the Pens, since they're contending and in the hunt most years and the Yotes are not, so those points won't really matter in the end. Glad they only play twice a year.

You know something, I noticed watching the leafs game, and the announcers brought it up, Every shot is going high corners, and especially high short side.

I’m guessing players are figuring out that goalies cover the bottom so well now, that that’s the only way to score regularly (excluding tip-ins).

Let alone the fact that the accuracy and skill level of these younger players is insane, there’s more skill in today’s game than ever before.

Nice to see the Pens with some mojo back.
Phil and Geno are looking good together.
Hopefully something will light a fire under Sid's a** and get him fired up soon.

Not as of yet. My son was planning on going but I passed when he asked if I wanted to go...don't remember why at the moment. Something else going on that night IIRC (company Christmas party?). He also mentioned driving to Vegas to watch the Pens play the Golden Knights earlier that week.

At the beginning of the 2015-16 season, the Yotes opener was against the Pens, and he surprised me with tickets. Was a good time, father & son, and it was the first & only time I ever rooted against Pittsburgh. The Coyotes were picked dead last by every media pundit, but they came out flying and really took the play away from Pittsburgh. That effort impressed me so much that as the game went on I found myself pulling for that group of no-names against the eventual Cup-winning Penguins. (That was the Mike Johnston era...he would only last until mid-December...the rest under Sullivan is history.)

Regarding ticket availability...you'd be surprised how scarce tickets here in Arizona can be for certain teams. Detroit, Chicago, and Pittsburgh games regularly sell out. One Red Wing player said a few years ago that they consider games in Arizona as home games due to the amount of (loud) Wings fans here. That's what one gets in a city with so many transplants as Phoenix.

Yeah, considering no Mathews as well. Gotta get shots to the net though, only 18 shots, you’re lucky to win. Too much passing in the O zone, need more point shots. Remember when JVR used just sit in front of the net and roof goals from the blue paint? Don’t see that much anymore.

Well, the 'Yotes teased us once again. Leading the Blues 2-1 after two I just knew it wasn't going to end up that way, and sure enough, they tied it up early in the third. Still, going to OT with one of the top teams in the league (in their building) is definitely something to build off of. Three-on-three was GREAT as both teams had numerous chances to ice the game but both goalies were fantastic (and lucky!). Shootouts still suck IMO but they suck more when you lose.
