NHL Regular Season 2017-18

The league is no longer a place for the heavy footed to successful. The name of the game is team speed and I think the Pens make a tactical error in signing Nash. I don't think he has the foot speed to be effective in the playoffs and given his propensity to disappear in the playoffs, I think the Rangers got the best of that deal.
Boston has a pretty ugly schedule in front of them... with something like fours games in hand over the Leafs. If there was going to be a time for them to fall back to earth, I would think it will be sooner rather than later.

And to make matters worse, he trades for another forward, Jooris from Carolina. Unless they can teach him to be a defenseman...

Tatar to Vegas? Wow, did not see that one coming. It appears GM GM has scrapped his five-year plan and decided this year will be the year to go for it.

Tampa Bay picks up McDonagh and JT Miller. But no Karlsson move yet.

And Jussi Jokinen will be suiting up for his fourth team of the season.

Yeah, he only put together 3 Stanley Cup winning teams, including 2 back to back in the salary cap era, he doesnt know what he's doing.:rollno:

He's gambling on this defense, but with what he's got on offense I think his chances are pretty good. You cant have a perfect team.

Just like that and the Pens find themselves in third place while Columbus does them a favor as the Blue Jackets strengthen their grip on a playoff spot.
That little 'rah rah' run the Pens ran off over the last couple months got them into third place.

Yeah, but imagine where they'd be if they DIDN'T have that run.

It's a long season, and I have no doubt they'll be in the playoffs. Not going to make any predictions how far they'll go (at this point) but yeah, the dealing away of Cole (and the lack of a replacement for him) was disheartening. But I have faith that they'll make some noise, even though TB became the confirmed favorite yesterday. :thumbsdown:

Leafs in 4th place overall in the league, what the ...?
Beat Boston Saturday, and went to a shootout against TB last night, gives me hope we could pull out a couple rounds in the playoffs, but win 4 from each?
Considering none of Nash, McDonagh OT Miller were on either of those teams yet. Mind you, Mathews wasn't playing in either of those games, so there's that.

But to get through both of them, just face someone like the Pens, or a surging Flyers team... yikes! Lol

Plekanec looked ok, took a couple penalties, but what do you expect, he's only had one practice with the team.
Kucherov went down in the first period last night, but sounds like he should be back soon.

Dang Maatta! As if he doesn't screw up enough in games, now he takes out the only veteran goalie the Pens have.
No defense and no experienced goalie as the playoff push starts to intensify.
As we've been reminded, at least the Pens won the SC in the past.

I like the Pens guys in this thread. We all seem passionate about 'our team'.
I feel the Pens made a big mistake in the expansion draft by protecting Murray. He was then at his peak of value.
I don't think Murray is a bad goalie, but he directly benefited from playing with Fleury. Having a guy like Fleury pushing you in practice everyday, competing with you for the starting position, waiting on the bench the nights you started knowing he was there in case you did't have it, and just the general presence of a guy like Fleury I feel made a major difference in the way Murray played.
Now Fleury is gone. Murray has won the SC twice, and got paid with a nice extension. He's also had a string of injuries, some of them serious.
Now he has a concussion, so the Pens are right where they would be had Rutherford took my call and listened to me when I said to trade him. :D
I would have much rather the Pens moved Murray when they had a chance and let Fleury play out his career with Jarry or DeSmith learning as Murray did.
Maybe I am wrong and Murray shakes the past injuries and figures out how to stop glove side high shots.
It'll be harder to judge him this season since he doesn't have a legit defense in front of him anymore.
