NHL Regular Season 2017-18

Well, Freddie has been hot and cold in the playoffs, but if he stays hot, we’ve got a great chance.

nope. 6 goals on 35 shots for an .829 save %. Rask wasn't any better at .833.

If we can keep Bergerons line to the outside, we have a hope of shutting them down again.

B's first line had 7 points.

Hoping Mathews finds his mojo for this one.

Matthews: 4 shots on goal, zero points. At least Marleau showed up to play.

That game last night was a clinic in how to allow pressure to get to you, especially the goalies. What a puke-fest.
Toronto was a bad matchup for the Bruins in the eyes of many, who also predicted a 7 game series. Nobody should be surprised by the way this series played out, but it did look lopsided after game 4.

Tampa is L-O-A-D-E-D. Not sure if as fast overall as Toronto, but definitely a much better defensive unit. Let's see if the B's can steal a game in Tampa and make this a good series.

It does suck, though, that the 3 top ranked teams in the east will be whittled down to just one after this series. Oh well.

Well, I was hoping that the Leafs would win, just to shut Rene up! I feel embarrassed for him, every time I see/hear him.
On the up side, the folks in the Boston area will have a full stock of red hair dye available as soon as he retires!
Stupid Leafs! Even stupider Gardner!
GO JETS GO!!!!!!!!

"Embarrassed for him." Good way of putting it. I've backed up many singers who don't hear or won't acknowledge that the voice has had it.I know he's popular up there, but it's time for someone else(who doesn't take liberties w/ the melody)to step in. BTW, I thought he did a better job w/ "Oh, Canada" than ours, which is a notoriously tough song to sing. Not great, just better.:)

Well, another season done, another year of "Wait until next year!" What the hell, it's only been 51 years, right? Do think very good progress was made, they played some very enjoyable hockey this year, with all in all more highs than lows. If you had told me two years ago, when they were the bottom dwellers, that they would get over 100 points, and push a very good Boston team to 7 in the playoffs within 2 years, I would have asked for two of what you were drinking. The kids are going to get better, let's see what happens with the free agents. And oh yeah, we do need a bit of an upgrade on the back end. Golf Leafs Golf!

In their golf outings they should set up a goal near the pin-good practice.:smug:

After taking some time to consider the whole year vs just the playoffs, here are my thoughts...
-Anderson needs to be more consistent, enough with the soft goals
-obviously we need defense and Gardner needs to go. The Leafs have invested enough time into Gardner that he should have gotten over his typical bone headed moves, obviously, not the case. I can't help but think he's as sharp as a marble.
-Matthews needs to start to care more! He's an extremely talented player, but doesn't appear to have that drive that say a Marner has...
-ditto for Nylander
-JVR and Bozak will be gone, not enough room within the cap to pay them and the kids who are coming up on real salary time
-Uncle Leo will be gone as well or should be!

Anderson didn't regress much in terms of overall performance. He still had a pretty high save percentage close to
.920. His GAA against went up to 2.8 and he also faced the most shots on goal of any goalie in the league. This tells me that it's either poor coaching or they need to shore up the defense.

I have a feeling the B's and Leafs will be matching up again in the SCP a few more times before Bergeron-Marchand-Krejci core gets too old. These are two good young teams. The baby B's have matured faster than I expected which is great. Both teams lost in the first round last year, both teams moved up in the standings this year and ended up matched up against each other.

I'm OK with high scoring games, especially when they have some ebb and flow to them. I was wondering when (if?) the scoring would slow down after it was 2-2 after 10 minutes. This one did; Toronto continued to score at a little slower rate through the 2nd, then the B's went on a tear in the first half of the 3rd.

Yeah, but if Gardiner was credited for all the assists he really had yesterday, he would have had a five point night. None of the Bs had that many.

Tie game. About time Pens got something going.

Those doubts are already starting to bounce around in the Caps' heads...

EDIT...No more tie. 87 & 59 came to play.

Another edit: Game 1 in the win column for the good guys! :D
Heck of a way for the team to stay in it. The Pens cleaned up the D act just enough to stop giving the Caps as many golden opportunities, and Murray ends up with a .941 on the night. Heck of a match. Glad the Pens took at least one on the road.

Matt Murray with a late save that reminded me of the one Fleury made to win the cup in Detroit.
I jump on Murray whenever I get a chance, but tonight I can not. He stood tall and made every single save he needed to to preserve that win.
Then again, it is the Caps, so it's not that big a deal to beat them. :D
