NHL Season 2018-19

The Pens played like some chumps for the first 20 minutes in Anaheim tonight and found themselves down 3-0. Then the second period started, and it was all Pens for the last 40.
Murray wins his ninth straight while Guentzel picks up the hat trick, granted the third goal was a late empty netter.
Then Pens wind up with seven goals, and Crosby picked up just one point while Malkin put on a show. Even though Crosby ended with one point, he made some big plays all night to keep the Pens in the game and got the surge going to take over.
My new favorite Pen, Pettersson, now has a point in five straight games. A personal record for him.
My favorite goal of the night was from Kessel, number five for the Pens. It was a beauty, eh.

I was surprised at the preponderance of Pens fans in that crowd.

Me too. I was fully prepared for a performance like the Steelers showed in Oakland earlier this year. We almost got it.

I just about shut it off as the first wound down, but I had nothing else to do so figured I'd continue the journey.
Although when Anaheim went back up 4-3, I nearly turned it off again.

It sure was. I should have added in my comment that I didn't find it offensive or bothersome, just an observation.
To be fair, the Pens announcers are homers as well.

I s'pose it's 'necessary'. We had a very good 'color' man fired by the Marlins because he pointed out that they were sucking.(they were)

Flyers announcers are homers also, but always give credit to opponents where due. I'm not a Devils fan, but I think Ken Daneyko does a good job for them. Of course he's a homer, but has no qualms about complimenting opponents for good plays. And if the Devils go on the power play as a result of an iffy call, Daneyko will say it was a ticky-tac call that should not have been made.

Pretty much all of the home radio announcers are. Usually selected and sometimes even paid by the teams, part of their job is to put bums in chairs, so they paint a pretty favourable picture of the home team. Never forget a comment I heard from the Sabre's radio team many years ago, "Even though the Sabre's are losing 6 - 0, I don't think that is at all indicative of the play".

I doubt it was Rick Jeanneret. I know I'm biased, but he's one of the best in the business. He fell ill during a game a few weeks ago and they had to bring in another announcer mid game.
I can't imagine him going too much longer. He will be missed.

No, it wasn't Rick, he is a real pro and has worked Sabres games forever, it was the colour commentator, back in the 70's, thinking Clip Smith or someone from that time, but Clip might have been the TV guy.

Edit - thinking back, it was probably Rick Azar or Ted Darling....
