NHL Season 2018-19

I don't really mind that 3-point thing, but you've hit the nail on the head as to why they do it. Amazing how some teams have a 'record-breaking season' pointwise but only because their OT/shootout losses count as one, whereas losses were never counted in previous protocols. But at least it's better than that fiasco of having four numbers in their record (W-L-OTL-SOL). That was a joke.

I guess I'm the lone dissenter regarding the 3-on-3 ASG. I enjoy it. It's so much more watchable than having 10 skaters all playing at half speed. IMO that was like watching the over-40 league at my local arena.

Maybe I wasn't clear in my earlier post. I actually like the 5 minute 3 on 3 concept as a tie breaker in the regular season. Although I'd actually prefer a 10 minute 4 on 4. My criticism was the NHL believing it could take that 3 on 3 format and use it as the basis of the all star games.

Incidentally, I played men's league hockey for years so I know what the game is generally about from personal experience. There are times when you play a game where both teams are short players or when there's an unofficial game scheduled with short rosters so you have to make due with 4 on 4 or even 3 on 3.

Nobody likes it. Goalies hate it

I would use this same argument around the ridiculous 3-3 format now used for regular season OT games. Stupid, stupid, stupid.......

I'm with you on that buddy.
I don't like when any sport changes the format on how the game is played to produce a winner when there is a tie at the end of regulation.
I think college football and hockey are the only two sports that do this, that I know of anyway.

The Pens have a day off to prepare for another last place team, and it will be at home. I figure Ottawa comes in and thrashes them 5, 6, maybe 7 to 2 or 3.

Wow! I hate to Sheahen go (Never thought I'd EVER say that!) but Brassard was just a warm body in the 'burgh. Oddly enough, Florida is one of my 'other' favorite teams, so it's a bittersweet deal for me as a fan of both. Naturally I want the Pens to succeed more but this deal could be good for both teams. Can't wait to see these big bodies in Pens uni's. Problem is, two more centers aren't really what they need. I'm guessing McCann gets moved in the next few weeks. Florida is rolling the dice IMO since both Brassard and Sheahen are potential UFA's this July.

Rutherford making deals to make them at this point. None of this makes any sense.
Too bad he couldn't force Florida to take Jack Johnson too.
Sullivan doesn't like big guys, so Bjugstad will just sit there on the bench.

That could certainly happen.

Florida is rolling the dice IMO since both Brassard and Sheahen are potential UFA's this July.

They are definite UFAs. Maybe FLA will flip them too.

I think it looks like FLA going to use them as trade bait to get some draft picks....not a bad idea...

They have Barkov, Huberdeau and Trocheck. A few more guys and they would start looking pretty solid.

On the other hand, perhaps Brassard will gel with those three in Sunrise and help get the Panthers knocking on that playoff door. I honestly think he's a good guy, and felt bad that he couldn't get it going in Pittsburgh. Wish him the best in South Florida.

Yeah, I find the Panthers letting go of Bjugstad rather surprising. It's gonna be interesting seeing how this pans out for both teams.
