NHL Season 2019-20

By the way, the "Mighty Ducks" was the most stupid major professional team name of all times, of any sport. Let's not forget that atrocity, naming a team after a Disney movie. Not a big fan of "Avalanche" or "Wild" either. I don't know the origin story of the "Blue Jackets", but I hope it's a good one.

Kraken is growing on me already.

Yeah, "Mighty Ducks" was a travesty.

I'm an old-fashioned guy who likes my team names simple, and I hate the trend toward non-plural-noun team names (thanks, Orlando Magic...). So my ire was aroused by the Kraken... until I found out that's also the plural. So.

As long as they consistently beat the 'Nucks, I don't care what they call themselves.

Meh, that name wasn't a popular choice in CO either

Maybe the Yotes should move to Council Bluffs? Seriously, I've never understood how they come up with some of these 'divisions'.
Dallas Stars used to be in the Pacific division and supposedly had the furthest travel distance of any team. I remember they bought their own plane in those days.
As far as the Kraken name goes....I would have preferred the Seattle Seamonsters. But all sports team names have to be something that is so politically correct, that they are lame.

I smeall ... a maerketing tie-in... :)

Kraken just doesn't work for a few reasons. One of them being the jokes that'll come from the name if you try to shorten it.
In Seattle, we have the Hawks and the M's. Now what do we have, the Krak?
Dumb.
Then the rum as mentioned already.
At this point, I wish they'd just not even mention the Metropolitans at all anymore. Not that I was around back then, but it's just not right for these posers to act like they know what they're talking about when they mention the Metropolitans.
One of the owners of the team today made a comment about how original and unique the name is since it doesn't end with an s like most other teams do..
Well there's a great reason to choose a name, it's unique. It's too bad more genuine hockey people weren't involved in this process and fewer marketing people and hipsters.
I'm sure I'll eventually go to a game once all the newness wears off and it's not the latest shiny thing in Seattle to be part of.
I'm just fine going to Thunderbird games. They were here long before the Kraken, and they'll be here after the Kraken are gone. I think the team will flame out in a few years and Bettman will move them to Houston or New Orleans or whatever other southern city coughs up the big bucks relocation fee.

The Metropolitians really would have been my choice, because of the history and I am old-school with my NHL. Love Original 6 and what's left of Expansion 6 teams.

Bettman objected because there is a Metropolitian division, but the NHL has renamed the conferences and divisions more times than I can count, so I would have dug in on it. The Seattle Metropolitians won a Stanley Cup, even though it was before anyone who is still alive was born.

That said, there was talk of Coho and Sockeye (which San Jose and Vancouver would have loved since salmon is a favorite food of both Sharks and Orca). Totems (which doesn't really mean anything and it would be a very poor choice as teams with Native American mascots are all dealing with that now, though I'm sure it could have been done right. Still an inanimate wooden figure doesn't really make for a great mascot in my mind). The Thunderbirds is the name of the Junior A team we've had for a few decades and there was some argument for that, which would have been okay, but also a not real animal.

If not the Metropolitians, I think the Kraken is a choice that we'll all be okay with over time.
