Seriously, that accusation of yours is a decade old, and no longer fits. I can agree that Crosby was a bit of a whiner his first year or two in the league. But that side of him quickly grew up, likely after a talking to from his boss Mario. He has put up with so much crap and abuse away from the puck, more than most any other player. I remember your own Daniel Paille blindsided him in the playoffs one year when they were both 40' from the puck...worse than the hit that Steckel put on him that started his series of concussions. One of his first games back from one of those concussions, Chara literally sucker-punched him in the side of the head. Then the brutal cross-checking to the back of his neck/head by that douchebag Dubinsky. So yeah, say what you want, but take a look at the whole picture. More goes uncalled than called.
My point is that he’s as guilty about the stuff that he’s complaining about. So we can agree to disagree about St Crosby

I found it hilarious that Flames fans are turning on their team after ONE loss to the Canucks. Yeah that's embarrassing enough but lol c'mon.
Admittedly, he's not as bad as he was in the early days. And I'm sure Lemieux had something to do with that. He actually lived with the Lemieux's for several years. But he's not exactly an innocent in the way he plays the game.
After the 2012 playoffs, Claude Giroux had to have surgery on both wrists. Asked about the injuries, he said, "That's from Crosby. Every time we'd have a faceoff, instead of going for the puck, he'd slash me on the wrists..." (I'm paraphrasing, but that's pretty close.)
When asked about it, Crosby said (again paraphrasing), "I wasn't trying to break his wrists. But if I did, I'm not sorry..." So while I'm the first to acknowledge his amazing talent, I've never liked him. And he's not the squeaky-clean superstar everybody thinks he is.
A while ago I predicted the Blackhawks were destined to be a below 500 team this year, but so far they've been winning most of their games.
They're currently at 9-5-4 and tied for the lead in their division. Still, it seems to me that they really aren't playing as well as their record would indicate. Like it's been more about luck than skill.
'Hawks #1 goalie, the rookie Kevin Lankinen, is definitely key to their current success. He's 6-2-3 with a 2.49 goals-against average, and his .925 save percentage puts him 6th in the league among all goalies.
I'm definitely encouraged by their record for now, but it remains to be seen if they can keep it up until the playoff season.

Well, that's how I felt about the constant Flyers-bashing that went on in these threads for years. Constant condemnation of the "Broad Street Bullies" from the '70s. They've been nothing like that for a LONG time. And if you remember, the only reason they BECAME what they were then was because the owner was sick and tired of other teams bullying THEM.
So these threads were not very enjoyable to me for a long time because of all the Flyers-hatred. At least I'm willing to give props to the excellent hockey team that the Pens have been able to put on the ice for a long, long time. Doesn't mean I have to like them. Just like you guys never liked the Flyers.
Yeah, still remember the 1976 Playoffs...Flyers had just won 2 cups with their "style" of play...played a good young up and coming Montreal team...Schultz decided set the to set the tone so he takes a run at a young Hab defenseman...there were 2 big thumps....Robinson hitting Schultz and Schultz hitting the ice. And that was the end of the Broad Street Bullies. Live by the sword....
In actuality, Schultz wasn't that great of a fighter. I always thought Berube, Tocchet, and Behn Wilson were much scarier than Schultz (although later than Schultz). Schultz knew that that was his role though, so that's what he did. Schultz said later on that the guy he was really kind of afraid of was Nick Fotiu.
Hey @Jeff K , never implied Sid was squeaky clean. I have mentioned in the past the abuse he takes and I'm glad to see him play with more of an edge. I can remember Giroux dishing it out to him, too.

And I've also said before that despite being a Flyers hater, my favorite player was Bobby Clarke, who was never accused of being anything less than nasty to play against. But man he saw the ice like few others of his era. Helluva playmaker.

From 1980 - '85 I worked as a mailman in a small town right next to Hershey, PA. The Hershey Bears are an AHL minor league team. They used to have a guy named Ralph Keller. Good minor leaguer, but never made it in the NHL. He might've played a few games in the bigs, but was basically a minor leaguer. I met the son when he worked for a short time at the post office out of which I carried mail. He told me a funny story about when he was playing in the AHL. It was late in Schultz's career, and I think he (Schultz) was playing out his last season in Rochester in the AHL. Young Keller (can't remember his first name) was on the outside of a face-off circle waiting for a puck drop when Schultz came skating up beside him before the face-off. Schultz gave him a little slash across the shins just to let him know he was there. Keller said his legs got weak and all he could think of was, "Please don't hit me; please don't hit me!!!"
He had me howling and laughing as he told the story.A slightly cooler story from that same time period. Two of the Hershey Bears (circa 1983) lived on my mail route. Geoff Courtnall and Brad Palmer. Courtnall went on to play with the Bruins and several other NHL squads. Anyway, one icy day I put their mail in the box on their porch, then started back toward the main sidewalk to move on to the next house.
I hear somebody yell, "Hey Jeff!". I stopped and turned around to see who was calling me. The sidewalk was a sheet of ice, and as I turned, my feet slid right out from under me. I fell rather unceremoniously right on my ass. I looked up and Geoff Courtnall was standing there. He had a hockey stick signed by the Hershey Bears for my son Josh, who was about 6 or 7 at the time.
I said, "Damn Geoff, of all the people in the world, I have to take a header in front of somebody who makes their LIVING on the ice!" We both got a good laugh over it.
I think most of us, being honest, have teams and/or players we don't "like"-and others we do. I admit to not being a Sid fan but I freely admit he's one helluva good player. I'm also not a Pens fan. Not because they "stink" or whatever, but because they-and most of the rest of the NHL-are not 'my' team(s): Lightning and Panthers-which could get interesting this year since the Cats are playing well and the Bolts are The Cup Champs with a chance to repeat. As a Canucks fan, seeing the Oilers light up Markstrom and the Flames twice in a row after they took a beating from the Canucks makes me happy.
This whole sentiment among Canucks fans about Markstorm and Tanev still being "in their hearts" is total BS. They left for money and that's fine by me but by no means am I obligated to stay loyal to them. They are no longer Canucks which means I will actively root against them. Enjoy that 6x6 and 4x4.5, Calgary.
