NHL Season 2022-23

I used to really enjoy the Skills Competition. But these past few years it's just getting lamer and lamer. This latest one was just beyond lame. Couldn't keep my attention at all, as I kept changing the channel, which I never would have done in the past. And the much-heralded Crosby-Ovechkin breakaway challenge...what a snooze. Yeah, it was 'nice', at least for the Ovechkin family, but what a disappointing snooze for the rest of us.

I was busy Saturday so I recorded the actual game(s), but so far only found time to watch the first one (Central vs Pacific). It was fine, I like the 3-on-3 format. But the jerseys looked so similar it was kind of difficult to figure out who was who. Even the numbers on the jerseys...light teal on white? Garbage design. Oh, and once I saw Ray Ferraro was doing the color commentary, I almost muted the sound. I likely will mute it when I watch the Metropolitan team play, as I can't take any more of his Shesterkin-worshipping.

Glad this whole event is over with...Now, back to the season. Game On!

It'll never be "perfect". It's an exhibition 'game'. Some of the skills were :meh:, but it was also an opportunity for South FL to show players enjoying our weather(shorts/t-shirts), show some personality, have a little fun(paid), and maybe get a few new fans.
Yeah, the jerseys looked pretty good up close(Miami Vice colors), but it was difficult to tell them apart on long camera shots.
AFA the commentary-in general, :spit:.

My wife walked in and watched for a minute.
Then asked what the point of all this was.
I couldn't answer for a second, but then I told her to watch all the guys around the edges and on the bench, not the ones doing the skills, they are just talking and laughing and having a good time. Hanging with guys from other teams that they rarely see under friendly circumstances.
It's for them to chill and have a little fun.
The rest is for the sponsors and maybe to try and bring in new fans

Pens tie the Avs late in the third, then Letang sinks the champs in OT. Great character win to start the unofficial second half of the season.

However, I'm jaded enough to know that while one win is nice, and the Pens are about to start a four-game west coast road trip, where they seem to forget how to play hockey on the flight out there. And once again, Jarry is out for a while with injury.

A wildly accurate assessment of how this season has gone. I agree totally. They looked like an awful hockey team for the first 55 or so minutes of that game. The Avs looked so much faster and so much stronger than the Pens. I told my wife the Avs are so much better than the Penguins, it's amazing this game is only 1-0.

This is not a good team. Their defense is awful. They give up so many shots on goal. I really don't think they make the playoffs. Jarry is as fragile as can be. DeSmith just isn't consistent enough to get us there.

DeSmith actually stepped up and stole that Avs game. But that is a once-in-a-blue-moon kind of performance from him. We'll need more like that if the Pens are to get to the post-season.

All the things you listed are spot on, plus the fact that the bottom 6 forwards contribute virtually nothing on offense. Carter is a shell of the guy we traded for two years ago, and Kapanen, Heinen, McGinn, Blueger are all having subpar years. And unfortunately we can't play Crosby's and Malkin's lines for the entire game. People bang on the Pens as an 'old' team, yeah, but the 'old' guys (minus Carter) are the ones carrying the team.

Little much for an often injured rental with 10 goals. And as a bonus he is -18. He and Panerrin can watch the rangers defense from center ice.

Geez, I was thinking he had another year under contract...that wouldn't have been so bad. But yes, he is a UFA at the end of this season. All this time the speculation was the Rangers were going hard after Patrick Kane, but settled for Tarasenko after Kane's asking price was too high (allegedly). Can't imagine giving up much more than they did but Drury evidently wanted this guy badly. (St Louis does retain 50% of VT's salary ($3.75M).)

It is nice to see some player movement ahead of the trade deadline, though. Couple of big names already moved (Horvat, Tarasenko).

I don't know what to say about the Wings.
The rebuild is going well. Talented and entertaining young players to watch as they improve and become a cohesive team. But they are not consistent. It will take a bunch of wins in a row with others losing to see the post season this year.
Next year…..

Unfortunately, inconsistency is a typical characteristic of a sports team rebuild.

So......
Sens are out of the playoff , not officially , but I don't believe it.
My prediction streak is , again , in the ditch. ( I' m so bad at this , I should stop )
