NHL Season 2022-23

Watched the debacle in the desert last night. Aside from the game, could not help but notice the "arena". The lighting was so bad that there were shadows everywhere over the entire ice. I have seen better lighting in beer league arenas I have played in. Watched the World Junior game from a junior hockey league arena in Halifax right before, it was so much better. The NCAA arena the Coyotes play in seats just under 5,000 for a hockey game, there are junior hockey rinks all around Ontario that seat more. And apparently the visiting team dressing room is in the building next door, the players have to walk outside to get to and from the rink. And the building was not even full, but they plan to play there for at least 2 more years?!?! What is Buttman thinking...there are state of the art arenas in both Hamilton and Quebec City both seating over 18,000 that would sell out every night. But I guess if they give Hamilton an NHL team, Toronto would want one too. (not to mention Buffalo would never let that happen, about 1/3 of their fans travel from Southern Ontario for their games) But no such issue in Quebec City, and a custom made rivalry with Montreal would be great as well.

So this counts as an NHL arena...

The Leafs practice arena is bigger....

"Toronto would want one too"? Priceless.

Kevin Hayes is a good player, but he does not go all out on every shift. I have no problem with Tortorella sitting him down. Sends a message that, "Yeah, you might be a veteran, but nobody is immune from repercussions if you don't play hard on every shift.

He sat Koneckny down awhile back as well. Koneckny is now one of the hardest workers on the team.

He (Tortorella) is trying to build a consistent work ethic. The Flyers are not gonna make the playoffs this year. But Tortorella is letting everybody in that locker room know that they're gonna have to play hard as long as he's the coach. I know a lot of people can't stand the guy, but I don't have a problem with him. Might that change at some point? Possibly, but for now, I think he's taking the right approach.
Yeah, you make a couple of good points. As a Pens fans, insert the name Evgeni Malkin in your first sentence and I can relate.

Quite a game at the World Juniors last night. Not sure I agree with some of the calls, especially the first overturned goal, I thought that was a legitimate hockey move, not interference, but what an exciting game...Canada - Czechia for the gold tonight! Most disappointing part of this tourney is seeing the USA uniforms with advertising on them...not as bad as the billboards the European teams wear, but some things are just not right. Canada now the only one with "clean" unis.

Well, Murray looked less than stellar last night giving up some pretty bad goals in the Leaf's loss to Seattle. Morgan Rielly has looked like garbage since coming back from injury and would make great trade bait before the deadline.
On a more positive note, the Canadian Junior team won the tourney last night with the game going into OT to find a winner. Such an awesome tourney!

Hey fellas....big Pens fan here. Just now finding my way into this thread.

Saw Torts mentioned on the last page. I love the guy. For the first time in my life I'm paying attention to the Flyers! ha.
Marko, there's one thing you need to learn quickly in this thread: You can never, EVER say anything good about the Flyers. :D EVERYbody here hates the Flyers except for maybe 3 of us. They all revel in the Flyers suckiness in the last decade or so...

Last night Pasta got a hat trick in Anaheim and the Bruins fans in attendance threw dozens of hats.

Are there other teams that travel so well and/or cities where the visiting team enjoys nearly as much support as the home team?
Almost half the Leafs away games should be considered as home games....Ottawa, Winterpeg, Albertax2, Vancouver and a lot of the warm weather US towns.

Arizona. Still shocked by how many Red Wing, Blackhawk, and Penguin fans fill the arena every time those teams play here in the desert. Easily more than 50% were cheering the visitors. And that was true even back when the Yotes had a decent product on the ice with real NHL'ers.

Understandable, as Phoenix is a melting pot destination from people leaving colder cities, but you'd think that as the Coyotes are on their second generation of natural-born fans that would diminish, but so far, not for those teams I mentioned.
