NHL Season 2023-24

Re: Bruins moves.
Good article in the Boston Globe today.

In a nutshell:
Trade Ullmark
Resign Swayman
Number 1 center with grit and strength
Top 6 wing. "
Top 4 stay-at-home defense. "

Florida is their model - graceful brutality.

Of UFA's, I hope they keep Heinen and Forbort. I agree with Jim that Gryz is likely gone and I would add Lucic.
DeBrusk played well in the SCP, so he might have priced himself out of town.
That leaves Maroon, Van Reimsdyk, Shattenkirk.

At this point, I guess I'll root for the Oilers; Canada should get to keep the Cup every couple of decades or so.
I think Boston should find some younger physical players instead of latching on to 30 something free agents

He's an RFA, and I can't see them letting Swayman go anywhere. The hard task will be getting Ullmark to waive his 15-team NTC.

Somewhat surprised they haven't had any talks with DeBrusk's agent as of yet.
The question is what Swayman is worth as a free agent. I can't see the Bruins spending top dollar for a long-term contract (north of 6 million/year for 6 years) for ANY goalie. If someone offers him 8 million for 8 years then he's gone. The good news is that they can keep Ullmark, who doesn't suck, and have quite a bit of cash available to throw at filling the gaps in their lineup. The Bruins have done well with goaltending within their farm system, and have some decent young talent coming up.

DeBrusk is a bit of a mystery IMO. I like him, but he needs to reach another level. I wouldn't want to see the Bruins overpay him when there might be more productive talent worth the asking price.

Completely agree with not overpaying a goalie. We've got Tristan Jarry signed for four more years at $5.3M, and consensus was Dubas bid against himself, as no one else (allegedly) had any offer even close to that number and term.

If I'm not mistaken, the only team that can offer Swayman 8 yrs is Boston, if he heads elsewhere then seven years is the max. (Although a sign & trade can be worked out if all parties were willing.)

I've always liked Jake, too, but agree that he just hasn't reached his full potential nor consistency. But I'd love to see him wearing the other 'black & gold'!

Heinen is a good example of what's wrong with the NHL salary cap and salaries. He's a good player who has performed well, (except for maybe a little blip in Anaheim), yet he can't stick around and get paid anywhere due to the out of whack money being paid to guys who don't deserve it, like for example Jack Johnson. How the heck is he still playing while a guy like Heinen struggles to hang around year by year.

Why are we stuck with the Rangers' broadcast crew instead of a neutral crew? Ray Ferraro is so fricking whiny every time something doesn't bounce the Rangers way, which was more than a few times last night. He is insufferable. :vomit:

His fanboy love for Shesterkin is nauseating. Every single save is either amazing or spectacular. We should play a drinking game every time he mentions Igor Shesterkin by name...we'd all be passed out by the 10 minute mark of the first period.

How do you figure that's the "Rangers' broadcast crew"? Ferraro played for the Rangers for not even one season and McDonogh is a Boston guy. Neither works the Rangers broadcasts on MSG. I don't like either because they just won't shut up but I don't see a bias. Could be worse. We could get Boucher or Shelley.

I was under the impression that Ferraro was the Ranger's color guy. He's always between the benches for every Rangers game on network TV these past few years, playoffs or regular season. His bias is pretty evident (and consistent) to this viewer.

He's an ESPN guy. Has never done an MSG broadcast that I can remember. He played with the Whalers and Islanders before the Rangers for about 60 games. I don't see his bias. He's a rah rah type for every game he calls and I'm not a rah rah type. I find it corny and "old". But, hey, if you see/feel bias who am I to tell you that you don't?

Lol. No need to apologize. I'm used to anything positive about NY being seen as bias. Like I said, I don't like him anyway, so no skin off my avocado.
I want the rangers to win inspite of him lol

I've never been a Ferraro fan. Including as a player

I've been listening to the games through the Rangers radio broadcasts since the start of the playoffs

Sort of surprised to see the Rangers spit the bit at home for game 1.
Once again, missed breakaway opportunities and clanked posts cannot happen if you want to beat FLA.
It is impressive how workman-like Florida is in imposing their will on their opponents.
Now that the Bruins are out, I'll predict that if the Panthers win this series, they'll take the Cup. Jinx employed!
If the Rangers don't put up a W next game, I'd say they're done.
Last year, FLA ran out of gas and was banged up. Not the case this year.
