Well I've always dug Yamaha stuff and I dig the BB series. And Yamaha bought Ampeg and I'm an endorser

Ha ha, off topic but I recently used an SVT Classic amp (backline) on a gig and I was shocked at the amount of thick low end on tap. An unbelievable piece of gear.

I have BB734A and its one amazing bass ,the hardware and woods are like those on P34,without the I.R.A. treatment,so I suppose when the bass breaks in after a few years it will sound the same like P34.

Strongly considering a BB 735a. Good value, looks cool, sounds cool. Plus a 20-inch + FB radius (I'd have totally flat one if I could)

The split coil (P) on the BB425 is a Ford Mustang; it's a beast. The BB1025's P pups I'd say are more Cadillac XTS

IMO the 424/5 models are the last authentic BB with original PJ pickups that belong entirely to the previous generation of BB's from the 80's,just the 424/5 come with upgraded electronics and five piece necks and strings thru body.Just the last real BB with vintage tone.The 1024/5 and 2024/5 models are upgraded with higher specs.

I had a BB5000 in the mid 80's, my first 5 string. That bridge pickup had more bark than a pitbull but the B string was unusable. I traded it it for a Guild Pilot 5 which I still have. But I do miss that Yamaha bar mag bridge pup.

if you don't mind jazz pickups, you could try the RBX4 A2. It's very lightweight and very yamaha.

i guess lightweight BB are out there. i see some 8lb weights advertised after a quick internet search. unfortunately i haven't run across them personally. Yamaha sort of advertised lighter weight and smaller bodies with the recent BB234,434,734a,P34 series but from what i've seen, it's only about half a pound or so, bringing a 9-10lb bass down to 8.5-9.5lb range. i guess there are some that are a little lighter due to the wood density.

you probably know this, but the 734a and P34 have an interesting alder/maple sandwich construction. how that affects weight and would be affected by chambering would be interesting to know.

I have a ‘77/78 Broad Bass 1200. It has a great neck,and is a beautifully made bass.
It does not get played as much as my other brand basses. It is a bit heavy,but i really love it.

I've never quite got on board with the styling of the BBs, but they're great sounding and very well built basses for not a lot of money.

Yeah my BB424X is still my favourite bass along with BB734A and TRBX504,love them all ,great basses for different tones,but the one I see myself picking up most is the BB424X,don't know just the feel of it,the solidity of the bass,the built quality, the tone,it all asks to be picked up and played,there are so many tones in it that I could play only it.

Obviously, Yamaha is a major multinational with tons of products, but my experience with them has been with the quality and reputation they have in keyboards and pianos. I love my CP-33.

Being new to bass and wanting something reasonably priced with great quality, I just purchased a TRBX504, and man do I like it. Excellent build, and holding down my simple beginner bass lines with it is sweet like a bowl of blueberries.

I got my TRBX505 a few months ago as an affordable "backup" to my two Fenders (P&J), but it's quickly becoming my main axe. Well-designed and well-built, it felt so comfortable to play on from day one.

It's so comfortable I think Yamaha measured my body and my hands in secret while I was sleeping and designed the TRBX505 to custom fit

I got my TRBX505 in April and went on the honeymoon for May and June.
Then I got sidetracked and went on a brief "string journey" with my two Fenders. My Yamaha sat in a case the whole two months.

Today, I took the Yamaha out of the case and bonded with it instantly as it felt so at home right away. "Custom fit" is right!

My P and J can quietly sit in their cases for a while now.
