Noble Amps Preamp

It made a literal world of difference in my direct to FOH signal. Especially on the really small gigs, like weddings where they won’t let us get too loud. My bass still sounded huge!
I primarily play for high-end weddings and at Museums with priceless paintings; volume is a major issue. My band has gone to using in ear monitors exclusively. I have a REDDI, and it has performed well, no complaints. The Noble, through my headphones just sounds richer, fuller, every note sounds rounder. The true test will come when my band performs again. However from everything I have heard and read, I believe the Noble will be my road dog, and my REDDI will stay in the studio. Also, not having to bring power cords for my pedals, and the Noble being able to fit into the bag I take with me which contains my Ipad, Iklip, in ears etc, makes load ins and outs that much easier. Every gigging musician can appreciate that benefit.

Thanks. POG and Darkglass are GAS list items. Not sure if I really want a board vs sitting everything in top of the amp. The idea of putting a Noble or POG2 on the floor makes me cringe.
I've had my Noble on a board for a year of gigs. I usually put it on the floor at gigs, rehearsals and sessions, with no issues at all. It's a pretty sturdy box and the tubes are quite protected and firmly seated with top springs to keep them in place. Many other Noble users here on TB do the same and I have never heard anyone say it was a problem.
The only precaution that I have seen suggested, and which I have done myself, is to use a heavy zip tie to really attach the Noble to the board rather than just velcro (even industrial strength velcro). I live in a climate where summer temps can push 105 at times and I have had high end velcro start to melt before.

here's mine on a Pedaltrain Metro 20 ... FWIW, this could easily fit on a smaller board too.

That will pretty much be my exact setup once I receive my new Noble next week except for the Chorus. How do you like the Cali with the Noble? I have a Cali I ordered last month.

I like the combination of the Cali76 and the Noble a lot. I have typically used light compression for years and mostly thought of compressors as always on devices but I did not really hear them working (which is a good thing). The Cali76 is a very nice comp but it also imparts a very nice sound to the signal too ... open ?, airy? , musical? ... (words fail me here) something I mostly hear on the high end. I use the Cali76 in its so called "NY style" comp mode ... light sidechain compression.

The combination of the Noble's tube sweetness and the Cali76's light touch is great for live and recording which is what you often hear from much more experienced users. Basically you can get your live tone to match your recorded tone. I am not a super big session guy, so most of my use is live, but I use my live signal chain (the board in the above post) as my recording signal chain (minus the chorus) and I have been quite happy with the results. And more importantly the folks I do tracks for are very happy too.

enjoy!

Dave, I know you had a super stack on your board previously. How did you think it stacked up with the Noble?

Hello my friend!!!
As much as I like it, it - and everything else I’ve tried, haven’t won me over long-term. There are others I will check out as funds allow... but that’s the fun!!!

I'm in the somewhat similar boat myself although I don't shuffle gear too often .. I certainly love my Cali76+Noble pedalboard and the love has not worn off after a year of using it as my primary live signal chain ... the Noble is not going anywhere anytime soon ... but .... for a small recording project I did recently, I pulled my mothballed VT Deluxe out as an alternative to the Noble as a DI/pre, and dang, that thing sounds really good for tracking too.

bit different flavor than the Noble for sure ... more Ampeggy vs more Fenderish ... just two flavors of good. happy to have them both, along with all the other gear I have kept over the years.

Kept my VT Bass DI as my back up if ever the Noble failed! Haha!

I also loved my Cali76+Noble combo. I kept it for a full year and didn’t touch my pedal board with the combo till I tried the SLO. Imma say it doesn’t beat the Noble but the SLO with 12AY7 is great enough that I ended up selling my Noble. The extra features of SLO steered me into it too. Overall I would own both one for studio work(Noble) and one for live/practice(SLO).
