Noble Amps Preamp

I have been using the Markbass Compressore with the Noble for over a year now. Great combination, love that the Noble (with the enhanced power jack) can power the Compressore.

Far as I know I'm the only guy using a Markbass Compressore with the Noble. It's a fantastic tube compressor that has an extremely low noise floor. Dead silent which is all the more amazing considering it runs on a tube. Noble quality circuitry. One of my best gear investments. Not sure why it's not more popular.

Hey buddy, we need to start a Noble/Markbass club to compete with the Noble/Cali disciples ha ha! It's a natural choice for tube lovers and a fantastic little (actually big) box. Not sure how to say it but I think the compressor rises above the rest of their gear. Markbass makes some nice products but I think of the amps and cabs as being good quality production vs the compressor is more at a boutique studio quality level (needs a "de Virgiliis family reserve" sticker). You can even get a little bit of warmth and breakup out of the compressor tube if you hit it hard enough. The thing I appreciate most as a light handed player is the degree of input control (gain AND threshold). When I had the white MXR (also a good compressor) I never had enough input gain to cause it to compress.

I replaced the Noble and Markbass tubes with Genalex Gold Lions about a year ago. Can't hear a difference vs the JJ's but now I have a spare set. Did it partly because I dropped the compressor once and was paranoid I might have damaged the tube or shortened the life. On the Noble I was more curious if it would change the behavior in terms of breakup (or lack thereof). My experience with the Noble is that no matter how much gain is coming in the tubes want to stay clean until they start to crack and pop in an unpleasant way. It's just not made for distortion.

I don't have any effects right now but have thought about adding a Darkglass Vintage Microtubes and the 4 octave POG2.

That's correct. The Noble must be turned on to allow any sound to pass.

Hmmm. Must have dreamed it. Thought I read somewhere that it had a fail-safe mechanism such that the DI would still work without power. Were you checking the XLR or the 1/4 inch output? Could be different.

My Corona isolation tube amp. I have a lot of pedals and preamps but this combo sounds fantastic! Might have to put this on a board. Along with some more stuff.

How are you liking that CabZone? I didn't know ShiftLine was doing something like that

Interesting setup. What sort of power module is that? How can you possibly get enough power to all those pedals off a USB? Are you having noise problems running off the Noble power?

Never seen that compressor either. Looks like maybe it has a crossover and applies different compression to highs and lows?

It’s a great little unit! I’m always using a cab sim of some sort, I don’t really like the clean DI signal in my in ears. I want the sound of an amp and cab, feels more natural to me.

I like the fact that you can load 10 IRs and A/B test them easily. And it’s so easy to try out preamps this way, and try which cabs suits best.

it’s perfect for a practising rig at home with the aux in and headphone out but it would have been even better with an XLR too.

It’s a Cioks 4 expander. Normally you would use it with a Cioks DC7 to get more outlets. The good thing is that you can power it with 9-24V DC or 9-12V AC, or even better a 5V USB C. You can even use a power bank.

All outlasts are isolated and switchable with 9V, 12V, 15V and 18V. At 9V you get 660mA on each outlet, depending with what you power it with.

I just used it because I had it in my desk, trying out other pedals, and I wanted to try out the Becos TWAIN with 18V. Check out scubaduba’s great review, this thing is a beast!

Thats killer. I use IRs in the studio after the noble. Obviously makes a huge difference with any sort of distortion pedal in front.
