My first bass was a 1972 Gibson EB-3:

I still have it hanging on the wall. It gets some playing time, but no gigging time. It's the oldest bass I own, heck it's older than me. I'll never sell it.

The first bass I bought new was a 2002 MIM Fender Jazz. I wouldn't want it back, but I definitely want another Fender Jazz in the future.

My first bass was an old Fender Musicmaster bass. My first “good” bass was a neck through MIJ Charvel (not sure of the model, but I know them when I see them).

The Fender, no, I wouldn’t buy back. I would like another Charvel one day though, if I can find one in good shape.

Guild B301A, neck by Hillerich & Bradsby. If by chance I happened upon the exact instrument (trust me, I'd know), I'd buy it.

My first bass was a 62 Epiphone Newport.
Cherry red, short scale, 1 mudbucker pup, made in Kalamazoo, basically an EB-0.
I've sold it and bought it back......twice.
Its currently in pieces, awaiting a resto.

My first bass was a '92 Ibanez CTB4. Very similar to an old Soundgear. I modded it pretty extensively: Tore off the fretboard, put on a new fretless Blackwood board, carved a new ebony nut, installed threaded inserts for neck and bridge, and replaced all the electronics with EMG. And turned (on a drill press) new knobs from the fingerboard cutoffs. It's a great fretless.

My buddy wen't over to the States the other day and bought a bunch of random stuff. I noticed that one of the bass's he picked was the very first bass I ever owned (bought with paper route money) when I was 13 (26 years ago). Same model and color as well. Told him I would buy it off him and pick it up on Sat. Total trip down memory lane! to the days where expensive gear was not of importance! LOL. What was your first bass? would you buy it back?

I'm happy and lucky to say I'm actually in the process of regaining my first two basses, 2 old Fenders I bought at the same momentous moment long ago, and if Christmas had gotten in the way I'd have the priority piece right now. I can still smell vintage FENDER from the day I got them.

Technically my first bass was a Hondo P bass. Had it for less than a year when I traded up to a Guild B301 and played that bass only for 22 years. Since then Ive had quite a few basses, but just saw a really nice Guild B301 here in the classifieds and Ive been having some nostalgia over it.

90/91' Squier II (yes II) Precision Bass MIK. Still have it, will never sell it. It still plays nice. It is the lightest bass Ive ever played.

'64 Fender P-Bass, Olympic White W/ red Tort guard. Paid $ 250.00 for it with the original hsc, in 1974. Still have it, needless to say it's Ridiculous. Fortunate I never sold it!

Natch finish (ash?) '70s Fender P-Bass in about the same weight class as a Peavey T-40 and, no, I wouldn't buy it back unless it was to flip it. It was uncomfortably heavy and the sound did not impress. Maybe it was just a dud. I traded some guitar gear for it and knew nothing at all about basses at the time (early 1970s).

Mine was identical to this.

A mid seventies “Univox Professional Bass”, with the Fender logo styling. From 10 feet away you’d think it was a Fender Precision. It had a beautiful natural blonde finish with a maple neck. I do check the classifieds every so often to see if one pops up. If I had kept it, there would be a pair of Lindy Fralin humbuckers and a new set of pots in it, and maybe a new bridge...

i thought i liked it, for awhile: i was trying to play some pretty heavy jazz with the thing --- none of the other players (all older badasses) understood why i had an ax which looked like this! i sold it (or maybe traded it in) for a proper "fender."

no, i would not buy it again! but that doesn't stop me from wishing i had it now...maybe...as a fretless.

i have felt the same way from time to time...usually after a bad set.

My first bass was a made in America peavey fury p bass copy. I’d buy another if I found one in decent condiction that wasn’t over priced. There are tons of stories of people finding these for like a $100. I’d happily pay $200 for one in great condition, but most of the decent ones I’ve seen online lately they want like $400.

My first was Japanese built Jazz copy. They used different brands. On mine, someone stripped brand and model. It might be Aria, Greco, Kasuga or something else. I had it for about 2 years, hated it badly and sold it back to the same guy who sold it to me for the same money, I purchased it for. I have to be honest, wood was great, electronics were crap. I don't want it back, even if someone wants to give it as a gift.

My very first bass, in about 1967, was a no-name Japanese copy of a Hofner Beatle bass. I wouldn’t even think of buying it again.

Same with me, but it was 1981. no-name Japanese copy of a Hofner. Easy to play neck, decent tone, for a poor college student it was a gem. Would I want that bass again, not really, but I could enjoy a good quality Hofner knock off or a real one.

My first decent axe was a '76 Gibson Ripper, two years later. I loved that bass and am sorry I let it go. I would love to get another Ripper but not at the price they go for.

Gibson SB400. Nylon bushings in the saddle that always wore out. Bought used at Schmidtt Music. Bought a Gibson because Gene Simmons played Gibson. Kind of a junky bass. Look up the price of them now.
