Well, at least you have a system which promotes your own culture. It used to be that way in the US, but (not so slowly) that eroded from regular airplay to a feature segments to nil. And yeah, there's Biebers and Nickelcrap in every country. Although we did get the best years of saturday night live from you you folks up north, thanks for that. The Drake thing just proves it's not so much to do with quality or innovation anymore in the mass market- it's about keeping it safe and formulaic because it's the lowest risk investment.
I live in Michigan by Sarnia Ontario, I grew up on Canadian/Detroit radio, it has definitely impacted my music taste.
I love the Trews and Danko Jones!
They are in the area all the time, Toronto is an hour away, too bad border crossing makes it not worth the hassle since , but oh the days back in early nineties! Campbell street, and Riverport ! Sigh..
I've heard of several of them and I'm a huge T Hip fan; however, your David Wilcox is a fraud. The REAL David Wilcox is here:
The Kings- switching to glide.
Cutting crew- I just died in your arms.
Moxy - 70's band
She's not my cup of tea at all but I saw her live with my ex gf and the talent was undeniable. Got to meet her after the show and she seemed genuinely nice as well.I would gladly give Celine Dion's stardom back to Canada. This doesn't diminish my reverence for some other Quebecois artists.
Eric Clapton's Dad.

Eric Clapton's Dad.
You may be thinking of the Powder Blues band "Doing it right on the wrong side of town". Personally, I like David Wilcoxs' - Do the Bearcat. I saw him a couple of times in the 80s. A real bar room entertainer.I actually found that guy in my searches and thought "I could've sworn David Wilcox was Canadian." I then realized it was a totally different guy and he is actually Canadian.
His best song is "doing it right on the bad side of town" but I couldn't even find it on youtube.
Is Campbell St. Station closed?? I played that club back in the 80's. Great live venue.
I was the bass player for a top 40 band. The band was called wow flutter ( really bad name , IMHO )It's called The Rustic now. Mainly just bring in one night acts now. Scott Weiland played there not long ago.
What band were you in?
