And what about Andy Kim? U.S. chart topper and, of course, co-composer and singer of "Sugar, Sugar" for The Archies!

I think BS&T greatly benefited from David Clayton Thomas being Canadian.

And I swear that if I hear one more Guess Who song on oldies radio up here, I'll personally strangle Randy Bachman. [Even supposing I'd forgiven him for BTO.]

I did make a mention to Andy Kim... I couldn't believe I forgot him in the main list either. ;)

Another Canadian rapper that I came across on Spotify is Shad, super good stuff:

I've never heard of him, but gave it a quick listen, and it sounded really good. I'll have to listen to some more.

Saukrates (who sang the chorus), is someone I thought should have made it big, as I think he's the best Toronto MC by a long shot... He got close several times. He did a track with Xzibit ("Keep It Movin"), and was close to getting a deal with Xzibit's label after but it didn't pan out... Then Redman's manager cought wind of him and signed him for a little bit to Def Jam and recorded a few songs ("WKYA" (with Redman), "Fine Line", and "Coming Up"), but then he pretty much fell off the Earth... He makes the odd track, but he seems to be more of a mentor, appearing on the next up-and-comers track.

Here some other Sauk's tracks I like (I listed a few in my first post):
Play Dis (with Common)
Rollin' (with Masta Ace & OC)
Ultimate MC (with Heltah Skeltah)
Innovations (with Pharoahe Monch)
That's Action
Check For Me
Action
P's and Q's
Father Time
Vietnam

K-OS is pretty popular.

Finding out that my buddy went to school with him in Whitby in he early 90's, his name is really Kevin and he used to wear pink polo shirts threw me for a bit of a loop!

There was one night, maybe 10 years ago, just a few weeks after his video Superstar Part Zero was released, which played on BET a few times. He was walking around by himself with three big bodyguards. We went up to him to shake his hand, and his guards blocked us and pushed us away.

I'm all for Canadian talent breaching out of Canada, and was hopeful he would "make it", but don't walk around the streets of your hometown at 8pm, by yourself, and hide behind your guards when two of your fans just want to say "hi".

That's not cool.

Dude grew up in middle class suburbia in one of the whitest towns on the planet. Seriously. Whitby is referred to by many as White-by. My kids class pictures were almost always 100% white. Sad really.

No need for such 'tude in any case.

I bet he Isn't paying for bodyguards these days!

Good on Canada for supporting its own. The USA doesn't care unless its corporate crap these days, the system is corrupted.

Canadians don't always support or own... I think we're a little disappointed that Justin Bieber is our own, and though I know of some people up here (like me wife) who love Drake, I think he's more popular in the States. He actually seems to get a lot of flack up here... Like Nickelback.

I respect Drake and what he's done for Toronto (not just his loyalty to the city and its sport clubs, but I appreciate some of the small businesses and stuff he's bought too), but his music just isn't for me... Truthfully, I'm shocked he was the Canadian MC that made it in the US.

The Len crew was actually into rap/hip-hop from what I have heard. My friend makes beats for some name rappers and he was friends with a guy who knew the crew. He said they decided to "sell out" so they could do what they wanted with the money. I don't know if this is true or not but buddy does have some name connections so I believed him.
I heard this too.

Just for the record, I LOVE me some Canada! I was up in Montreal for the first time last year, finally -- what a fantastic city. It is of course sloppy thinking to generalize about a populace, but Canadians are by and large a warm and welcoming lot who love to talk and share ideas.

Many great record stores in Montreal, by the way.

I've been to Vancouver BC many times over the decades, but it wasn't until I got across the bay and out to the surrounding mountains that I appreciated just how grand the place. Wow.

Looking forward to catching up on the acts discussed in this thread, a good many of whom I've never heard of, sorry to say.

There is one common thing in Canada that I don't understand... A lot of Canadians absolutely hate people from Toronto.

I was in BC once, taking the ferry from Vancouver to Vancouver Island, when I was chatting with someone. We talked for a few minutes and we both lit a smoke on the deck. He asked me where I'm from and when I said "Toronto", he coughed, mumbled something under his breath that sounded like "jerk" and abruptly walked away...

We're not all friendly. In fact, I've spent a lot of time in mid-north New York state, and am amazed by the kindness from strangers I see every chance I get.

That was one of the first albums (tapes) I actually went out and purchased. I don't remember if I bought that or Jamiroquai's Travelling Without Moving first.

You know that "You oughta know" is apparently about Dave Coulier? Yes, that Dave Coulier.

She made him seem like such an ass, which wreaked havoc with my childhood... But after watching Bob Saggat's standup, I quickly realized the Full House cast wasn't as wholesome as I had anticipated.

Also, I think Flea played bass on that one... Listening to it again, he does a really good job on it.

Also, I just read the lyrics on this song and I never knew it went, "It's not fair to deny me / Of the cross I bear that you gave to me"...

I always thought he gave her a cross-eyed (teddy) bear.
