Big prize on 70-80's Canadian game shows was a $50 gift certificate for The Old Spagetti Factory. Nice!
Another Canadian rapper that I came across on Spotify is Shad, super good stuff:
And what about Andy Kim? U.S. chart topper and, of course, co-composer and singer of "Sugar, Sugar" for The Archies!
I think BS&T greatly benefited from David Clayton Thomas being Canadian.
And I swear that if I hear one more Guess Who song on oldies radio up here, I'll personally strangle Randy Bachman. [Even supposing I'd forgiven him for BTO.]
I was on the Danny Burgess show with the cub scout around 1975ish! Great show.Yeah, CJOH is (was) Ottawa. On the flip side, we used to get WWNY-TV and I always looked forward to watching the Danny Burgess Show!

K-OS is pretty popular.
Finding out that my buddy went to school with him in Whitby in he early 90's, his name is really Kevin and he used to wear pink polo shirts threw me for a bit of a loop!
That's not cool. There was one night, maybe 10 years ago, just a few weeks after his video Superstar Part Zero was released, which played on BET a few times. He was walking around by himself with three big bodyguards. We went up to him to shake his hand, and his guards blocked us and pushed us away.
I'm all for Canadian talent breaching out of Canada, and was hopeful he would "make it", but don't walk around the streets of your hometown at 8pm, by yourself, and hide behind your guards when two of your fans just want to say "hi".
Good on Canada for supporting its own. The USA doesn't care unless its corporate crap these days, the system is corrupted.
Did Len have a career in Canada beyond that song? I thought of them as the prototypical one hit wonder - the song was inescapable one summer, and then nothing.
I heard this too.The Len crew was actually into rap/hip-hop from what I have heard. My friend makes beats for some name rappers and he was friends with a guy who knew the crew. He said they decided to "sell out" so they could do what they wanted with the money. I don't know if this is true or not but buddy does have some name connections so I believed him.
Just for the record, I LOVE me some Canada! I was up in Montreal for the first time last year, finally -- what a fantastic city. It is of course sloppy thinking to generalize about a populace, but Canadians are by and large a warm and welcoming lot who love to talk and share ideas.
Many great record stores in Montreal, by the way.
I've been to Vancouver BC many times over the decades, but it wasn't until I got across the bay and out to the surrounding mountains that I appreciated just how grand the place. Wow.
Looking forward to catching up on the acts discussed in this thread, a good many of whom I've never heard of, sorry to say.
That was one of the first albums (tapes) I actually went out and purchased. I don't remember if I bought that or Jamiroquai's Travelling Without Moving first.
You know that "You oughta know" is apparently about Dave Coulier? Yes, that Dave Coulier.
