Now I have heard it all...

That's amazing, of course Ken Smith is the only bass that can play gospel, we all know this. (just kidding) It's better that you're not playing there and even though it's a slap in the face I can feel your pain. I used to go to a church that considered recorded accompaniment tapes to be evil because the devil can speak through backwards masking. There are a lot of idiots out there and going to church doesn't reduce stupidity it just gives them the cosmic creator that they think is on their side.

Where O Where is the Boob Bass when you really need it?

If you're talking about John Stoneman's nude instruments, the bass is still in his shop. Last time I talked to him, he still hadn't found a buyer. Hm, maybe the OP would be interested?

As for the pastor, methinks he watched a lot of MTV in his youth and was deeply affected by seeing the ungodly Nikki Sixx playing his Tbird while half-nekkid women gyrated in the background.

I could understand if you had a bass with upside down crosses (or maybe the one that is a full erect penis, you can find picture of that bass in google) but those are all normal basses you mentioned.

He has to have some other reason behind it or otherwise he is just out of his mind.

Luckily you don't play accordeon, in Finland one of the names for the instrument is "devil's lungs". That would have traumatized him badly...

I was told by the whackjob fundamentalist around the corner that a Jazz Bass was the work of the devil because Jazz is the devil's music.

Wow! Is that ever a blast from the past! Sometimes I'm amazed at the persistence of history! I'm sure many of you have heard of the unsavory reputation of Jazz back in the early days. And it's not surprising given that the art form started among the musicians of the whore houses in New Orleans. Indeed, the very word "jazz', which was then spelled "jass", like the later term "rock and roll" was a black expression that meant "to have sex". However, by the time a new artform achieves concerts at Carnegie Hall, it's unsavory past is generally forgotten.

And of course none of this has anything to do with a "jazz bass" as that was simply a marketing name! ;)

I know of one sect that doesn't even allow instruments at all to be played in their services, all vocal music only. What's wrong with folks? And then there are those who won't allow any music with a groove, and no dancing. But, I'm not judging them, they can be as they want to. Just don't force their way on me, that's all.

It is sad, though, I think, that some are the way they are.

[Jazz is the Devil's music? Then Rock must be his Brother's. Have mercy, I'm goin' to Hell!]

My beefs with some places that claim to be religious. This guy is a moron, anybody should be accepted in a place of worship if they want to be, isn't religion more about the faith? Not the big PA system or the expensive instruments or the way one dresses... Oh but it's not like that in a lot of cases, most seem to be a extremely judgemental place of hypocritical "worship" where the subject of love and morality is overshadowed by what susy over there is wearing, or the gossip of the day. Typical of the hick suburbanites that are taking over western society.

I'm not religious anymore but in all seriousness if you want to find a church find the church where you can walk in with a slayer shirt and not get judged as the antichrist.

How 'bout in full leathers and a ponytail and full beard and moustache after riding my Harley to church. Sheesh, the stares.:eyebrow:

Considering the OP has posted once and only once, I'm thinking this is a troll thread. Regardless, narrow mindedness is everywhere, and it most certainly isn't limited to the religious world.

Lowner, the OP, has been a member since 2005 and has over 400 posts. Doesn't sound like a troll to me, but others may view it differently.
400 posts, yes, but 226 threads started! The OP does this over and over and over...
