The Grizzly has the High Cut knob but the Holy Fire 9 doesn't? Would that be the only difference between the 2?

no. they both have a hi cut. the grizzly has a mids cut and the holy fire doesn't.

Yes, thanks, I was going to delete this post as I'd realized my error in stating that but then I started reading 20 million other threads...lol....and forgot...you are quite right....and the mid cut is the key....

Ed Friedland's and Creation Audio Labs' demos and mmbongo convinced me.
I just got one and it is AWESOME!!!
Big and rich. Pretty transparent if you want that. Love the Funkulator mid-cut for some color. Plays well with other pedals. Even works well with signal splitting. I got it with true bypass.
My OD GAS has subsided!!!

Hm, interested. For those who have it or know it well, can it get fuzzy? If I can find a suitable OD/Fuzz combination, that would be a great space saver.

This pedal just came up on my radar as well. And three good pedals rolled into one is a win win.
I like the low gain settings and as to high gain Fuzzbass said it does that above. I'm interested!

Indeed this is a very cool pedal.
You can do anything yo want with it. From Motown through overdrive to all out fuzz, I would say.
With both gain at minimum and mid cut at 12 you get that Jamerson's sound, you can just add some drive and you get a raw B15.
On the other extreme with both drive at max it's really wild and raunchy.

@Fuzzbass had recommended this one to me some time ago as a replacement for the Fairfield Barbershop. Took me a while to get around to getting the Grizzly on my board; but now it’s a permanent fixture.

This is def one I've wanted to try for a while. But man, the MBD1 just about killed my dirt GAS. Maybe not my fuzz GAS though....

I'm sure the Barbershop is great, but some have said it doesn't always play well with hot/active basses so I stayed away. The Grizzly works great with any bass I own, from passive to hot active.

So does the MBD-1 for that matter. I tend to go Grizzly for classic vintage tones, MBD-1 for harder rock, but either will do either. Both are excellent pedals.

FWIW, I run my fairly newly acquired Blower Box and venerable Colossus into a dirty Grizzly Bass to get that distortion into a cooked amp kinda sound. It cuts some of the mids of the BB and warms up the fuzz nicely.

I posted this question in the effects forum earlier this week with no response... figured this thread might be a better chance. Looking at Creation Audio's website they have a choice of redeemer buffered output as standard with the Grizzly or true bypass as optional. From what I read, the redeemer buffer seems pretty well regarded. Does anyone with Grizzly experience have thoughts on one vs. the other? Thanks

Sorry Jimbo, not sure about the buffer or true bypass, but I just scored #203 of this bad boy, I would imagine it's the regular buffered version, and I'm diggin' it!
I'm just coming off my honeymoon with the dp3x dUg pedal, and it's just too damned scooped for me, I LIKE MIDS!
The Griz really helps my overtones sing out! I like everything this pedal does. The two types of drive, the OPTION to scoop mids/boost lows, and the treble cut. It's quite a beast indeed!!! Show me some love Grizzly lovers!!

I should add, that I bought the pedal from the creator of this thread!!!! Ya never can tell!!

JimboP, Sorry buddy. Mine is true bypass. I have active basses and a large pedalboard with a Badger Schism XV. I didn't need another buffer.

I ended up getting a regular buffered version I have quite a few pedals and a passive bass so it will probably come in handy
