NPD DSM Noisemaker OmniCabSim

Hi guys!
FYI just want to let you know that i´m taking this week off (vacations), so i won´t be taking any orders until next week (january 8th).. but i still will be connected to the internet and participating on this and other forums and replying questions and such..

I think you meant February! I'm interested in trying one of these, I've been doing a lot more headphone practice since having a baby in the house!

The DSR-115 is $999.00 street.

I think it is a deal.

It uses a class D amplifier similar to a lot of the new compact, powerful bass heads coming on the market.

And, it is full range. I use guitar/bass synth sometimes.

a new 1000 watt and higher bass head and cab will typically run you close to double the DSR-115.

I tried 3 or 4 powered monitors before deciding on the DSR.

There is a lot of resistance to this approach.

Those arguments are mostly put to rest with a quality cab sim like the OmniCab in my humble opinion.

Crazy loud and tone for days.

Took me over a year to get this dialed in.

I don't think these are available in my country, and I don't know... Thomann lists them at £835 before shipping (ouch!)...

Any idea if the newer DXR15 are any good? Their low-end specs seem quite a bit worse.

Or... do you know what is the "secret sauce" that makes a PA-cabinet good for bass? (I know, I know - I just need to go and listen to some... It isn't quite so easy to evaluate these things in a shop...)

"Secret Sauce"

hmmm. i guess you could say yes.

i tried lots of bass heads/cabs, combos and lower powered PA monitors.

i found the main issue was POWER, POWER, POWER.

also, most of the dedicated bass amps colored my sound too much.

i tried the QSC K12 just before i went with the DSR115. it was nice, but broke up at high volumes.

the others simply didn't have the power to cleanly match a full band situation.

some of the newer high powered class D heads are looking pretty good.

the new Genzler Magellan looks nice. but like most of these heads, you need a 4 ohm cab to get the full 800 watts.

i wouldn't recommend a PA monitor lower spec'd than the DSR115. the DXR series didn't cut it for me.

nice thing about the DSR, is the cabinet and head are PERFECTLY MATCHED! in one box.
sure it is 65 pounds, but manageable.

the next thought be:

"well mr. smarty pants communist, if the PA monitor is so hot hot hot, why do you need a cab sim?"

character. the Aguilar, J-Retro onboard preamps are great - the OmniCabSim adds that historical bass character without the limitations
of a traditional bass rig. it's a clear sounding little box this OmniCabSim.

i'm not saying this is for everyone.

i wanted my amp section to reproduce as accurately as possible.

in closing, dear friends, i've only had the OmniCabSim for a few days. rehearsal today.
we shall see.

i have high hopes.

AND i like supporting an up and coming product from a (fingers crossed) up and coming designer/engineer.

...

so, now it's time to beat the reaper!

the first person who can identify the 3 Firesign Theatre references in this post will get FREE WEATHER REPORT and JACO VINYL LPs from
my collection - of my choice. sorry only lower 48 United States mailing addresses please.

free shipping of the lps too.

here's an overview of the DSR115:

The DSR115 Active Loudspeaker features an ideal combination of advanced digital sound processing and the
latest acoustic technologies for Integral Digital Tuning, plus Yamaha's D-CONTOUR (Dynamic-CONTOUR)
multiband dynamic processing for Intelligent Dynamic Control.

The DSR115 is loaded with 2 Class-D amplifiers with a PFC (Power Factor Correction) switching mode power supply.

One amplifier deliver 850 watts to a premium grade 15" neodymium woofer with 3" voice coil and a second amplifier supplies
450 watts to a large 2" high purity titanium diaphragm, neodymium, high-frequency compression driver. A LTBD
(Long Throw, Broad Dispersion) Constant Directivity Waveguide Horn spreads the sound across 90 x 60.

The DSR115 has an impressive maximum SPL of 134dB peak.

makes me wet.

Oh..you´re right..it was 3 am here when i wrote it...

So..update:
I will be away next week, turning back on Feb 15th. I will be taking orders from my site (www.dsmnoisemaker.com) now that I put back the paypal button, but shipping will resume on Feb 15th.

Remember that there are only 20 units left, and this batch is the only one with launch price, the next one will have the full price tag (which i´m not telling yet but it will be still a good bang for the buck)

and thanks Frederic for your comments, i´m very glad you like it!

I'm trying to talk myself out of pulling the trigger. Do I need one? School me smart dudes. Here my signal chain;

4003>Barbershop>VMTD>Fdeck>EP Booster>Crest Prolite>fEarful12/6.

The dirt side of the VMTD already has an EQ curve baked into it which is not a million miles away from a speaker sim, so if you're using high levels of blend on it you may not need one, but extra tweak ability is always welcome!

I am trying to decide between this and a used Torpedo CAB. On one hand the power amp modelling is a major plus, but on the other, smaller size, 9v power and hands-on tweakability is also a winner...

Ordered too. Hope to lose some weight....

The VMTD's blend is at noon, zero gain. I much prefer the BS touch sensitive, tight overdrive.

had rehearsal saturday.

the OmniCabSim simply sent my tone over the top.

and to echo a previous poster, using the Yamaha DSR115 - it is "high-fi clean".

the Omni adds that HAIR. i was dialing in nearly any tone i wanted from light onboard EQ changes, to technique adjustments.

fingerstyle to slap and back... great stuff!

it can be subtle to the uninitiated. i wouldn't really consider it an effect.

my drummer's eyes got REALLY big when i plugged in. it WAS the first time he heard my DSR115 too, though.

that thing is LOUD! keeeerist!

good good good.

great match!
