NPD DSM Noisemaker OmniCabSim

pretty sure the manual says striclty 9v

The mini doesn't have a manual yet. I just checked the manual for the deluxe - it says regulated 9v DC is recommended.

earlier on this thread:

The headphone amp is regulated to 5v.. there's no difference to use higher voltages there..the main circuit gets more headroom, though.

The above was referring to the deluxe though. I'm out of isolated outs on my power supply so I'm planning to daisy chain w/ 1 other pedal... I'd prefer to use the 18v out if it will sound the same other than increased headroom, as my G&L has a tendency to cause some pedals to clip.

It has 50V caps so it´s phantom safe.

That was referring to the mini.

The amp gain seems to add midrange clarity and tasty harmonics but actually takes away "heft" when you adjust the level to unity gain. I find myself needing to raise resonance to make up the loss of low end.
Yes..i wanted to mimic output transformer saturation, which limits the low end above certain point..raising the resonance is the best way to get the low end back. If you don't cut the low end as the gain increases, it can get "farty".

Mine showed up today. Have to say this thing is pretty damn cool. It plays nice with the Mesa WD-800 head, and I kinda like using it for a bit more grit into that head running the gain about 3:00. Still messing with different settings, I think it'll be the ticket for when I'm going straight into a board (do that on most of the Farmer's Market gigs). Nice piece of kit and tiny.

for the resonance: you mention at lower volumes it behaves as a low cut filter......HPF or LPF?
this always manages to confuse me somehow.....HPF for low LPF for high

I don't have either products but am intrigued and would love to try one out.....can't decide between the Deluxe or Mini....what exactly are the differences? If this info is somewhere else in this thread, then I'm sorry to ask again but I haven't found the answer I need yet....thanks

In the graphs it looks to be about 6 db per octave HPF for the resonance side. The texture control contols the LPF.

I have both, but have not been able to use the Mini much yet. The basic differences are the lack of midrange control with the Mini, but the Amp gain control can help some midrange stand out. Also, the amp gain will give you breakup on the mini by itself, where the Deluxe does not have that built in. Both can be ran cleanly though. Those may be the largest differences.

The short answer is yes but the slope is not as "steep" as a dedicated HPF.

thank you........

As the resonance is increased, the slope of the HPF also increases. It does not appear to operate as a true HPF though. It looks like it eventually begins to level out instead of exponentially reducing lows.

Yes, I know that.......what I'm asking is: resonance behaves as low cut filter.....does that "really" mean low as in HPF
What i meant is that from half up, the resonance wil boost the lows in a peaking fashion, from half down, it wil cut the lows in a shelving fashion...pretty unconventional, but i liked the result, as you can make really "boxy" cab tones..

Just got mine. Daniel I can't thank you enough! Overall Tone and Dirt sounds so much better with it. Its what i wish my old SansAmp could do. And its freaking tiny. I think I'm done... for now...
